President Obama raises big number-of donors

(CNN)-No word yet on whether President Obama reached a $60 million fundraising goal by the close of the second quarter, but according to a tweet from the president’s re-elect campaign staff, almost half a million donors contributed toward the effort.

The official Twitter account for the Obama 2012 campaign tweeted a thank you to contributors shortly after 12 a.m. saying, “As of midnight, we’re closing the books on the first chapter of this campaign-with 493,697 donors. Thank you.”

The second quarter of presidential campaign fundraising closed at midnight on June 30.

The president attended two fundraisers in the final hours before the deadline late Thursday-both were expected to net $2.5 million for his re-election campaign. He asked top donors to haul in $60 million by the end of the second quarter during a presentation in early June.

Money raised is expected to go towards the Democratic National Committee as well as the president’s re-election campaign.

Shame he doesn't spend as much time dealing with our countries problems as he does campaigning. But hey, what do you expect from a community organizer?

I think the President should invite the top congressional leaders to a cookout on Monday. Call it a "Hot Dog Summit", although some cynics would refer to it as a "Top Dog Summit".

Good for him. I hope he got the 60 million he needed. I don't agree with Obama on most things but he has a better understanding of what needs to be done than any of the Republican clowns standing in his way.

Alot of people down talk the president who is a graduate from one of the most prestigious law school in America, that he is a community organizer, but a community organizer is probably one of the best traits a president can have, because he cators to all sort of people; young, old, rich, poor, black white. Unlike a business tycoon who thinks that the only way to go is to have strong top heavy economy, and what falls off of them will trickle down to the masses. The problem is since we are in a global economy, the trickle down Thing is not going to America anymore, it's going to china, India, and all other countries that can work cheap and save American corporate bosses trillions of dollars.

Shame the Republicans are willing to destroy the economy trying to launch a Republican into the WH. I'm an Indy that normally votes Rep. but not this time. I got several checks to write to ANY Dem or Indy candidate that take on the Texas Tea Party idiots.

President Obama works hard for all Americans while the fat rich cats sit back and count all the money Republicans promised to keep and protect for them.

Once again our President is not focusing on the real issues that he was placed in office for. He is going golfing and fund raising more as the crisis increases. He attacks and belittles congressional leadership telling them they should resolve the defecit issue while he takes time off to again play golf and attend fundraisers.

He needs to focus on many things and do the job that he was put in place for. The results of his lack of effort is showing. He once again cries if we don't raise the defecit that one impact is college students won't have scholarships. My answer to that is to bad. Find a job and go to work and attend school. Maybe at least the student will take more responsibility and more pride in their degree that they are working for.

Anyone complaining that the Pres. spends more time campaigning/fundraising than he does on other issues, flat-out doesn't know what the heck they're talking about. From the moment he awakes in the morning (keeping in mind that he has to be available at any time throughout the night) to the time that he goes to bed, he is in meetings, conference calls, strategy sessions etc. doing his job. I've been to a fundraiser and they take up less than an hour of his actual time. So acting like he's just lounging around all day with donors not doing anything else. Its just not true!

Richard in Huston, Mark is correct. How about when you put in a honest days work in and understand the role of the president as a leader you will have some credibility.

People complain that Obama is campaigning. Well, who are those GOP candidates and what are they doing? Running for president. So why shouldn't BHO? And who set precedence for a 21st century president to campaign during his entire term? One Mr. George W. Bush.

I just simply do not understand how anyone who is not rich can vote for ANY republican. They do nothing to help the poor and the middle class. Instead they hoodwink the less informed in our society and make them believe that they are on the same page as they are by making a big deal out of unrelated issues all they while they are sticking a knife in the backs of the very people who voted them in.
I think the typical Republican voter has thoughts like "hey i dont like abortion/gays/tax/ect and neither does this guy... i am going to vote for him!" ... and then the voters situation stays the same, while the rich and the companys get richer.
These people only watch one news channel and guess what, its not this one.
In the mean time, Kansas basically overturns Roe v. Wade, unions get destroyed, it becomes harder to vote, education gets worse, and you can kiss Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid goodbye.

The weeper of the house is not a leader - he cannot get any bills/laws written. The President does NOT write bills/laws. He can only sign them or veto them. The weeper of the house wants President to do the job of the House.

Bad, John, Bad. Stop the boozing and start working to get your group of cats herded.
