Welcome Thad McCotter

Washington (CNN) – Welcome Thad McCotter to the GOP presidential field for 2012. The conservative, guitar playing five-term Michigan Congressman will file his paperwork to run for President today, a spokesman confirmed.

McCotter will make an official announcement at a Fourth of July festival in his home state tomorrow evening. A program for tomorrow's festival states the Republican presidential candidate "will also be taking the stage to show off his musical talents."

Fond of quoting rock bands in his political commentary, McCotter described last spring's near government shutdown as a "Communication Breakdown" between the parties in a reference to the Led Zeppelin classic.

McCotter is considered a long-shot candidate by party insiders. But he is laying the groundwork for a campaign in Iowa. Last month McCotter anonymously purchased a prime location for the upcoming the Ames Straw Poll in August.

A website for McCotter's campaign, mccotter2012.com, is now up. It states boldly at the top of the page: "Your American dream is endangered."

He's more level-headed than the other ones that are running. He won't win because of that. He also will not kiss Norquist's holy ring.

  13. Ah yes...

Another one runs for president for publicity.. At least he is doing it for his music, and not a book (Cain, Palin, Bachmann, Gingrich), or a job at Fox (Santorum, and the rest of those clowns)...

You know Barack Obama was an accomplished best seller author BEFORE he ever ran for president..

I am solidly for Obama, It is hard to believe that the Party who gave the nation Abe Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt is offering such blather now. If "rock lyrics" can improve the discourse among the GOP than I am all for it. To quote a good country song: Hey Tea-Party, "How can I miss you when you won't go away?"

What !! This is unbelievable ! How many does this make ? It actually is getting disgusting. If the GOP EVER had a chance they sure are ruining it with all of this nonsence.

Can he join Mike Hackubee the giatar player like him instead of joining the GOP field which no one knows who to support! He has just joined and I do think for fun and let his name get recognised a little bit. Can't he realise the former Ambassador in China is getting trouble to get to be known and leave alone him (what is his name? it has slipped already from my mind within the matter of a minute)!!!!!

Exactly Charlie in Maine. The GOP cupboard has been bare for SO long of quality candidates. Although I think it will be impossible anymore for someone like T. Roosevelt to get elected...he told it the way it was, not the way people wanted to hear it. Dems & Repubs aren't willing to do that anymore and the people in the country are too lazy and stupid to deal with reality.

The American Dream was near destroyed the day the SS Regime of Bush, Cheney and Co. took office. The day that Republicans finally take accountability for the crimes that they committed for 8 years, is the day I’ll give the Lying Party of ‘Genocide over Policy’ (GoP) a second look.

So who is Thad McCotter? He’d better pack a lunch along with his guitar.

"A program for tomorrow's festival states the Republican presidential candidate 'will also be taking the stage to show off his musical talents.' " So this is basically a gig for his band? Try American Idol Thad.

Rock lyrics? ROCK LYRICS?!? Are these guys for real? The party of screwing the small guy for maximum profit? Rock lyrics are all about one thing: the small guy refusing to go down quietly without a fight. Okay, that and sex and drugs.
No wonder rock musicians are getting pissed off at GOPers using their music.
