Romney sticks to Obama criticism, despite naysayers

(CNN) - Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney repeated his campaign line that President Obama has made the economy worse in New Hampshire Monday, a sentiment that has received criticism from those on the left and independent fact-checkers.

"The recession is deeper because of our president, it's seen an anemic recovery because of our president," Romney said after a July 4th parade in Amherst.

The New Hampshire Democratic Party quickly jumped on the "debunked" claim that they said "has been central to his campaign message."

According to the National Bureau of Economic Research, as pointed out by the Washington Post, the recession officially ended in June 2009.

Romney first made a similar comment at the CNN/WMUR/New Hampshire Union Leader presidential debate in June when he said the president "didn't create the recession, but he made it worse and longer," and again during a visit to New Hampshire last week.

When pressed on the statement Friday in Allentown, Pennsylvania, Romney said he "didn't say that things are worse."

"What I said was that economy hasn't turned around, that you've got 20 million Americans out of work, or seriously unemployed, housing value still going down. You have a crisis of foreclosures in this country," Romney said. "The economy, by the way, if you think the economy is great and going well, be my guest."

When asked about the governor's comments, Romney spokesperson Andrea Saul pointed to the current economic situation, including the unemployment rate, housing prices and national debt.

"It is an undeniable fact that Barack Obama has failed to create jobs and fix the economy. He is on track to be the only president to leave office with a net job loss," Saul said. "President Obama and the Democrats will spend the next 17 months trying to distract voters from their horrible record on the economy – and it’s not going to work."

Romney is a liar. He flat-out denies what is shown over and over on tape. He should be ashamed, but I guess it's just a slimy republican thing.

Repeating it's a flat earth often enough and you just might get some moron to become a believer. But only if you were in the wrong line when brains were handed out.

Romney needs to get on his knees and pray to Joseph Smith for commiting the sin of lying. Or do mormons not believe that is a sin? Mr "I broke up companies" and shipped jobs overseas will NEVER get the vote of the people of this country.

Luis Vazquez – Can't you come up with something original and fact-based? Why can't you idiots understand that companies are not going to hire until there is more demand for their products and services and until wages come down to near China and India rates. The next thing you will hear from conservatives is that the minium wage Act needs to be abolished.

It is true that the there are millions of Americans out of work and the current President does not care. He would rather travel around the world taking vacations on the taxpayer's dime. Notice how Obama has not prosecuted one person from any of the major financial firms that caused the meltdown. He gives them a free pass since they have donated thousands of dollars to his reelection campaign. CURRENT PRESIDENT EQUALS CORRUPTION AT IT'S BEST!

This from the moron that was going to give a child $1 (to return his oney for the origami he made for this dumb dumb) and when he opened his wallet he only has $100 bills!!
The economy? When was the last time you went without something for yourself or your kids because there was no money? Hypocrite. Go back to whatever you came from in Utah or wherever you were born.
@cobra – hope one gets you in the arse. In the meantime you might want to rethink who is the president/vp who were and should be tried for war crimes . . . . . yes, the shrub and darth vader!

Employers are not hiring because they would rather keep the money for their own use. They would rather push the employees they have to produce more for less. Our health care system has been a disaster for millions of citizens for several years. How many millionaire billionaire insurance executives do we have in OUR country? How many are there in other countries?
We became aware of our enormous deficit when the President put the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan ON THE BOOKS!
That did not mean that the deficit started at that time. We just saw it then.

Another "not intended to be a factual statement," and these politicians somehow claim "morals" for the followers. Shame, Romney.

So Willard "mitt" Romney LIED, got CAUGHT for telling the lie, and then claimed that he "never said" what he was RECORDED as saying just a few days ago. If this used card salesman wannabe is too stupid to know that we now have this thing called videotape, and we really can keep track of candidate' statements, then he really has no chance of running the country. But, then again he is a Republican. They don't do to well where the TRUTH is concerned.

Outlaw the right-wing extremist corporatists, as they supported two war criminals that put this country so far in a hole it will take decades to climb out. And a republican giving more to corporations will NOT cut the mustard.

People are unemployed because of actions like Romney and his company: He bought up companies, laid off American workers and shipped the jobs overseas.

People are unemployed because American companies are sitting on $3 TRILLION in cash and not hiring people. Employed people who buys things is what creates demand, which drives an economy; if I can get this, why can't all these business geniuses figure it out?

People are unemployed and the numbers are going down as fast as we'd like because even as the private sector hires people, Republican governor yahoos like Scott in Wisconsin are giving tax cuts to companies that don't need it, create a deficit and then using that as an excuse to lay off public sector workers.

THAT'S why our economy isn't doing better, Mitt!!!!!

President Obama's policies HAS NOT made things worse. When Obama took over in January 2009, the nation was losing 700,000 jobs per month and the economic trajectory was nearly straight down. THOSE ARE FACTS.

Eventually Obama's policies terminated the decline and turned things around. FACTS! Companies and factories are now hiring (slowly) and the economic trajectory is pointing up. FACTS!

Romney is part of the fake hypocritical Republican GOP that wants to take over and hand the national reigns back to the very oil companies, corporations, insurance industry, and Wall Street Bankers so they can finish off the American middle-class. WAKE UP PEOPLE!

Republicans love to whine on about how government "can't create jobs," and yet they blame the sluggish economy on the President – the head of our government!

I'm so sick of these Republican yahoos that are doing NOTHING to help our country, are putting party ahead of everything, and spend every waking minute trying to figure out ways to help their rich multi-national corporate buddies at the expense of average Americans!

Obama’s Economists: ‘Stimulus’ Has Cost $278,000 per Job. These three economist hand pciked by Obama will release a report which concludes the stimulus is actually having the opposite effect. How you donkeys like them apples?!

Republicans have stated they want President Obama (and by association, our country) to fail.

They want him to be a one-term president.

They campaign in 2010 on job creation and have done NOTHING since November 2010 except complain, try to pass divisive social legislation and whine on and on and on about things without offering anything constructive.

Their answer to all our economic woes is to give further tax cuts to the wealthy, even though this "tinkle-down" economic theory is a PROVEN FAILURE.

They want to offset the resulting deficit by cutting programs that help the most vulnerable among us.

Think about this long and hard, folks: Voting for a Republican is like a chicken voting for Col. Sanders.

I.m sorry. But isn't the unemployment number higher by something like 20-25%? Isn't the nat'l debt larger by something like 40-50%? Aren't gas prices higher by soimething like 100%? Aren't foreclosures at an all time high? Haven't the taxpayers spent about $270K for each new job created by the so-called stmulus? Perhaps it's not the Websters definition of worse, but I think most Americans would tell you that the last couple of years (very long, trying years) have been worse than the previous years.

How stupid do the GOP presidential candidates think we are? They are asking us to elect a president who will bring back the same policies that caused a devestating recession, blew unemployment through the roof, and destroyed the monetary surplus that Bill Clinton left us. I especially like the part where they wish to cut Medicaid, but keep the tax breaks for corporate jet owners and the big oil companies. Yeah, the Republican-Tea Bag Party can sure count on my vote ...
