Word battle wages: Romney vs. Democrats

(CNN) – Despite continued push-back from Democrats, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney stuck to his line for a second straight day that President Obama has made the American economy worse.

"He made the recession deeper, last long and recovery more anemic," Romney said Tuesday at a town hall in New Hampshire. "He made things worse."

The newest iteration of the line comes one day after he made similar statements in New Hampshire, which resulted in a new web video from the Democratic National Committee. The spot juxtaposed his comment Monday that "the recession is deeper because of our president," with seemingly contradictory sound Friday in Pennsylvania.

"I didn't say that things are worse, what I said was that the economy hasn't turned around," Romney said Friday when asked to clarify his words.

The former Massachusetts governor first made a similar comment at the CNN/WMUR/New Hampshire Union Leader presidential debate in June when he said the president "didn't create the recession, but he made it worse and longer," and again during a visit to New Hampshire last week.

When asked about the governor's comments, Romney spokesperson Andrea Saul pointed to the current economic situation, including the unemployment rate, housing prices and national debt.

"It is an undeniable fact that Barack Obama has failed to create jobs and fix the economy. He is on track to be the only president to leave office with a net job loss," Saul said. "President Obama and the Democrats will spend the next 17 months trying to distract voters from their horrible record on the economy – and it's not going to work."

DNC spokesman Brad Woodhouse said Romney has a history of reversing positions.

"Mitt Romney has well earned a reputation as someone who changes positions with the political winds, but this is just taking things too far," Woodhouse said in a statement. "Does he really think no one is paying attention?"

Here's how much Romney loves America. His consulting company advised clients to fire employees and outsource to India and China. Romney knows how to create jobs, unfortunately for American's those jobs were created in India and China

Face it. The Grande Democratic Economic Stimulus Experiment of 2009 was a gamble with American Debt on liberal economic philosophies. They have never worked before and they didn't work this time either. Massive government spending does not revive a down economy. It creates debt. America's national debt has gone up 40% and American unemplyment has gone up 23%. Housing pricess are still depressed and there are millions of foreclosures waiting in the shadows. Yeah, it has gotten worse with his gamble. Not to mention the time we wasted going down that path.

Just like a true repug stick to your talking point lies, no matter the facts against it, because the gullible will believe if you repeat the lies over and over again without fading. Hell look how great it worked last election.

The debt rose 4.4 trillion dollars the day Obama put W's two UNFUNDED wars on the books (W kept the debt OFF the books, so it wasn't "seen" by average Americans).

Suck on it republicans. Truth hurts you, and YOU are hurting this country with your never-ending lies and hate.

I thought that Mormons where against lying. He knows that what he is saying is Not The Truth.
Romney is the most -out of touch- person of all the candidates.

Do you really believe that this mega wealthy businessperson even can begin to empathize with real working people in the country? As they say, " This is the guy who fired you and sent your job overseas to save the corporation money..."

@Four and The Door: Face it. Historically, Republican administrations (including Reagan and both Bushes) have created massive debts and in the case of Bush II, took a budget surplus and turned it into a multi-trillion dollar deficit.

Republicans tank the economy for the average person, while enriching those who already own massive wealth.

Republican tinkle-down economic policies are PROVEN FAILURES.

These are the FACTS you need to FACE.

If you repeat a lie often enough, you start believing it. Hopefully, voters are smarter than Romney, Pawlenty, Bachman, Santorum, Gingrich, Cain, and Huntsman. They have no solutions except to lower taxes for rich people and corporations while punishing the middle class. Why would anyone in their right mind vote for any of these people???

  13. Mitt Romney - He`ll Say ANYTHING To Get Elected

If Mitt Romney had any ideas for how to do any better, he has had 3 years of free time to advance those concepts on behalf of the nation he claims to love.

He has hundreds-of-millions in personal, "corporate raider" gotten wealth. Why not take $10M and buy some commercials to tout your solution if you couldn`t get the ear of the Aministration?

Mitt had nothing better to offer from his"armchair quaterback" position and that`s why we did hear anything from him or any of his Republican bretheren.

Let businesses run roughshod over individual protections and give tax cuts to "job creators" – that`s all they`ve got. After 30 years of this even the most die-hard working class, "Reagan Democrat" [or their children] are/lt buying this crap.

Romney's playing to the Republican base that will believe the most outrageous lies if they are repeated often enough.

The fact that Romney panders to them says one of two things:

    1. He is as stupid as they are.
    2. He knows he's lying, but doesn't care because he's power hungry enough to compromise himself a la John McCain AND he really couldn't care less that he's trying to convince people to vote against their own self-interest.

Personally, I think #2 most accurately describes Romney and the other Republican candidates.

What a sorry bunch of losers! With their track record of tried-and-failed policies, I just don't see how anyone with a brain would consider voting Republican in 2012.

Although I will be voting for President Obama AGAIN. I would vote for ANY one AGAINST Romney. IF he thinks for one second he will EVER occupy the WH – send my sons off to die – while he and his (five) "pretty boy" sons walk around in $10,000 suits he is sadly mistaken. He is the only person on the republican side who makes Bachmann, Palin and Gingrich look desirable. I would vote for them in a heartbeat before I would EVER cast a vote for this con artist. I can't stand him or his lies. As one blogger said a few years ago EVERYTHING that comes out of his mouth rhymes with his first name. Vote AGAINST this user.

Gov. Romney is a textbook example of why you should not trust people who talk and smile at the same time. Romney's caught in a lie, and like a true Republican will refuse to admit it.

since when has Romney or any Republican running for POTUS let FACTS get in the way of their campaigns? They accept one fact and that is a lot of Americans are gullible and believe anything you tell them esp if they tend to be in your voting bloc. With the internet and fact chencks now there is really very little excuse for them to fall for such embellishments yet many still do. If they didn't then FoxNews would not be so popular.

Romney cant even find a job for himself with all his resources, and he thinks he can go from unemployed to President. If he was any good as a businessman he would have corporations knocking at his door with job offers. Romney wouldnt know how to work 18 hours a day like Presidents most often do. If he is of no use to the corporate world how good could he be as President ? I guesss there is not a big demand anymore for taking over companies and shipping jobs overseas and laying off Americans, that seems to be the only job Romney has done well at previously.

Romney, we were bleeding 700,000 jobs a month when the President took over. Millions of jobs were lost from the economic crash in the first 6 months his Presidency....Not only did he STOP the bleeding, but we are now ADDING thousands and hundreds of thousands of jobs monthly. Consumer confidence and manufacturing are all UP from where they were. The unemployment rate has actually come DOWN from the peak of 10.1% after the millions of jobs that had been lost immediately prior to and six months after the President took office. STOP YOUR LIES ROMNEY! Idiots who don't bother to read or check facts for themselves may believe you. But the rest of us know better.
