Washington (CNN) - Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann launched her first 2012 election television ad highlighting her Iowa roots and fiscal conservatism.
"As a descendent of generations of Iowans, I was born and raised in Waterloo, as a mom of five, a foster parents, and a former tax lawyer and now a small business job creator, I know we can't keep spending money that we don't have," Bachmann says in the ad. "That's why I fought against the wasteful bailout, against the stimulus. I will not vote to increase the debt ceiling."
The 30-second spot starts airing in Iowa Thursday. Although the campaign will not say how long it will remain on television, campaign spokeswoman Alice Stewart said it will run through the weekend.
"It is a significant ad buy," Stewart said. "Iowa is a critical state."
The Minnesota congresswoman is the second Republican contender with paid media in Iowa. Former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty has aired two ads in the state. This week, Pawlenty touted his record as governor, including his opposition to unions during a transit strike.
Pawlenty and Bachmann are focusing a lot of time and resources in the Hawkeye State, hoping strong showings at the Ames Straw Poll contest next month, and in the state's caucuses scheduled for February, help propel their campaigns.
Since announcing her candidacy in her native Waterloo, Bachmann has campaigned in the state several times.

Mrs. Bachmann, a more effective ad would be to eliminate all your biographical material. And knowing we cannot keep spending money we know we don't have is not exactly a new revelation. Most of us know what the problem is. We would be interested in hearing some detailed solutions without the usual cliches. S p e c i f i c s. We want specifics. You are not speaking to a clomp of turnips you know. Don't bother sending spitballs agcross the aisle either. That is so unbecoming to any candidate. I don't care who it is. And that bailout......seems the Government actually earned some interest on that deal. Pull your ad immediately and give us something we can really sink our teeth into. Thank you CNN for giving me this opportunity to say something about candidate Bachmann.
The GOP has a plan. They are taking the FICA entitlements you pay for and leaving the tax. 15% tax increase for the Middle Class and they don’t even have to say tax.
A stupid country deserves a stupid president. We have about 85 pre cent idiots in this country so Bachmann will do just fine. I suggest Bachmann and Palin for ..2012
a tax lawyer? hmmmmmm tells me one thing, she knows how to cheat well
She's a lawyer?
Wow, I thought her ignorance was because of a lack of education.
Now what's the excuse?
That's right, get those kids into the story again. Isn't her fifteen minutes up yet? She's worse than the balloon boy.
a tax lawyer hmmm tells me one thing, she knows how to cheat well, maybe that's just what we need in the White House another good cheat
Did she mention John Wayne Gacy or any other serial killers? It makes sense when you consider how crazy she is.
She always tells us what she won't do, she always tells us what she's against. She never says what she would do, and she never tells us what she's for. This is one negative bitter woman. Tell us Michele, what's your plan.
Am I the only one immature enough to notice that in the photo she looks like she is being tickled by the guy behind her?
C'mon Michele, average Americans are being asked to make big sacrifices. What sacrifices do you think the wealthy should make?
So why not give us your blueprint for American, I am sick of hearing what you do not like about the President, tell us what you plan to do different.....that will actually work. Oh and since Republicans want to cut entitlements, how about cutting your own first.
The ad would be perfect if she was wearing a black pointy hat.
"That's why I fought against the wasteful bailout, against the stimulus. I will not vote to increase the debt ceiling." So she'd prefer 2 major employers (the car companies that took bailouts) and all the business that rely on them and employ millions of others went out of business? And she's have preferred that all the jobs that were saved by stimulus weren't? And she'd prefer to create another economic calamity by not raising the debt ceiling all because she can't see the forest for the trees due to her insanely dogmatic approach to politics? Who the hell would vote for someone that unwilling to bend?
Congresswoman Bachmann is against the stimulus, raising the debt ceiling, etc. She is letting us all know that she has never received any help even when she had foster children.
Now is the time to tell us who is financially backing her campaign. Since every other candidate has been scrutinized about finances, both the candidate and spouse, it is time for the GOP to question their own candidates along with Ms. Bachmann.
The Republican in Maine attacked spouses so i assume this is a standard Republican question in every state.
The fiscal legacy of this waste of space is the mess in Minnesota ... the tea baggers that vote for this moron are the same idiots that think rush limbaugh isa genius ... the collective IQ of the red horde is hovering just south of 1
Bachmann is hot. She is so full of "hot air". She is selling a "magical snake oil" a magical spell "make Obama an one-term president", that would heal all the problems of this country and economy.
Michele Bachmann's has said publicly, on more than one occasion, that she is a good "Christian wife" who is obedient to her husband. Her husband, Marcus Bachmann, is a "Christian counselor" who specializes in reprogramming of gay people.
Be afraid, America. Be very afraid.
To the person above who made the statement regarding Reagan as a candidate in 1980: putting Reagen in the same sentence as Bachman is like comparing "Citizen Kane" to "Dude, Where's my Car".
Was she looking at the right camera this time? Another Republican spouting critizism without offering a viable solution. She won't raise the debt ceiling – so Michele what are your plans after the country defaults?
"I will not vote to raise the debt ceiling." Okay, so she's unAmerican. Got it. "The unifying choice that will beat Obama." You're anything BUT "unifying". So that's what you stand for? Beating Obama? How about telling us what YOU will do if you get into the White House? You don't have a clue, do you? And guess what. The "I'm from Iowa" routine isn't going to go very far outside of Iowa. Are you going to tell Iowans that you're going to eliminate their farm subsidies, or are you going to admit to being in favor of big government interference in the free market so long as its for the things YOU want.
Michelle Bachmann believes the Bible should take precedence over the Constitution. She is an anti-American Christianist. Love her, hate America.
I love the fact that she proudly says she had 23 foster children. If I said that about myself, she would label me a welfare queen living off the government dime – what a hypocrite!
Folks, we have to keep her in the GOP primary long enough until she has to give up her congressional seat as well. That way, not only will she not be president, she won't be in Congress anymore either – BONUS!
Gee, maybe when Bachmann and all the other repubs are finally finished screaming about the economy, the debt ceiling, and taxes under the Obama administration, they can finally get back into the White House.. At which point they'll promptly worsen the economy, raise the debt ceiling, and raise taxes (on the lower and middle classes only, of course.)
She's a tax lawyer? Hey, Dustin Hoffman's character in "Rain Man" was pretty good with numbers, too.
