Former Obama aide zings Bachmann

(CNN) - Bill Burton, senior strategist for Democratic super PAC Priorities USA, took to Twitter Thursday to deliver a swipe at Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann.

"If leading GOP candidate in IA says she would let the nation default – shouldn't the news be bigger than simply the size of her ad buy?" Burton, President Obama's former deputy White House press secretary, tweeted.

Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota released her first ad of the 2012 election cycle in Iowa Thursday, in which she vowed to vote against an increase to the debt ceiling. Iowa holds the first-in-the-nation presidential caucuses, scheduled for February.

"I fought against the wasteful bailout, against the stimulus. I will not vote to increase the debt ceiling," Bachmann said in the ad.

President Obama and Congressional leaders are embroiled in negotiations over an agreement to raise the debt ceiling before August 2, to avoid a potential default.

Priorities USA, which launched in April to compete with outside Republican groups in the 2012 election, went up with their own ad last week accusing Republicans of opposing "economic reforms at every turn."

"We can't rebuild America if they tear down the middle class," the ad said.

She's blaming Obama for TARP. Again. It is time to call her out on this. She did it during the NH debate, and ever since with impunity. She is equating Obama to both TARP and the Stimulus, which she and her governer used to their advantage.

Priorities USA and Bill Burton are as irrelevent as Obama is. The nation has moved on to the adult issues, which is cleaning up the mess left by the 2006 – 2010 Democrat controlled House and Senate, and an economic imbicile in the White House now.

  8. I Don't Intend to Be Mean - - But Damn She's Dumb

This lady has no accomplishments. ZERO.

America claims to be a "meritocracy". Ha Ha that's a joke and any blogger that supports Ms. Bachmann in response to this story is affirming the fallacy of her worthiness. Her own words REPEATEDLY indicate this woman would be a supreme embarassment for us internationally and DANGEROUS for the USA domestically.

This idiot lady said that we could avoid default by simply paying the "interest" on our debt. If you have a mortgage on your house and you only pay the interest, have you lived up to your agreement? NO, you've defaulted.

America borrows 32 cents of every dollar it spends. To pay for 100% of ANYTHING NEW after August 2 will require BORROWING beyond the current $14.3T limit. How hard is it to understand that? Now mind you, this lady claims to be a TAX ATTORNEY. OMG

Not raising the debt ceiling is not defaulting on the payments. It amounts to no more borrowing and cut spending drastically.
These morons have no clue whatsoever. Allowing the debt to continue to grow is not a solution and brings ultimate destruction to our civilization as we know it.

When a GOP candidate says "Let the nation default" to protect the interests of the mega rich only, she would become the puppet for the mega mega rich. The average american would be ignored and would suffer more than ever before. We would look at the GDepression with envy after shes done with this great nation.

So, her pitch is "vote for me, I am so insane I will destroy our economy to adherance to extreme world view."

Who with an IQ above 75 is going to vote for such irrational stupidity?

IMO, his statement sounds more like a swipe at the "lamestream, librul" media for soft pedaling the issue.

The stimulus helped people keep their jobs and get out from under. That means that she has voted against anything and everything that might help the little people. What kind of car does she drive? If it hadn't been for some of those bailouts, including her rich friends, never mind the car companies more jobs would have been lost.
The only nuts who will vote for her are the tea tards and we already know what they are about . . . . . . . . racism is first on the list. Wait, she still thinks the real john wayne, is a good guy in real life. FLAKE!

This ladty has a lot of issues when she speaks. Most of the time she just pumps herself up talking about vast generalities but when it comes down to issues,......
She want to teach "Creationism in our public schools
She wants to eliminate agencies that are holding back industry like the EPA (the folks that have a mission to keep us safe from gross industrial abuses).
She wants to eliminate farm and ethanol subsidies (talk about "job killers").
Her views are so wacko that she doesn't want to talk about policy she spends her time talking about her christian values (who's raising all these kids?).
The biggest problem I have with her and her background is she comes from a fundimentalist / elitist background and her job was to find tax loop-holes for the rich to abuse. She's definetely a GOP momma.

Her family took farm subsidies, her husband takes tax dollars claiming to be rehabilitating people in a "Christian way" and she is a tax attorney- figuring ut ways to help people from paying their taxes.
Yes- this is the woman that claims to be against federal spending when she is one of the biggest recipients of the largess of the Fed.
    Hypocrite!

You have to admit, she was correct on the first 2 calls. I think in the current economic environment with so many Americans cutting back to bare necessities, for the Obama Administration to back the country up against a wall financially blowing by a debt ceiling that he himself put in place, it is kind of a slap in the face of the American taxpayer. If that wasn't enough, he at first claimed he wouldn't even put up with tying it to spending cuts and now he is trying to use it as an excuse to raise taxes. Michele Bachman isn't that far off with her vote. Obama is fortunate that the Republicans are cooperating so well to raise the credit limit. They have been trying to get spending in control against strong opposition for 2 years.

What did Michelle Bachmann say when George Bush borrowed money from China to send everyone a couple of hunder dollars designed to jumpstart the economy? NOTHING!!! Now suddenly, we need to stop our spending. Do as we say, not as we do. She's such a grand flip-flopper! And a hypocrit to boot.

Economic imbecile? Really? This after we had a president who cut taxes, increased spending in wartime, expanded prescription drug benefits and then could not/would not fund it? The man who did wars off the books? Also, did you look at the GOP Congress of 1994-2006? They were blameless, while Phil Gramm erased the distinctions between commercial and savings banks, setting the stage for the free-for-all with the banking industry gambling with people's 401K's? Your side believed in inaction, and we are paying the price for deliberate, cynical inaction on the federal, state, and local level. The GOP kicked the can down the road with tax cuts and foisting responsibilities onto the states and local governments that forced them to raise taxes as well.
