McConnell: GOP doesn't want government default

(CNN) – Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Kentucky, indicated Tuesday that Republicans will continue to push for a more limited debt ceiling increase deal that relies solely on spending cuts.

"As long as this president is in the Oval Office a real solution (to the country's fiscal problems) is unattainable," McConnell said. Barack Obama "will do almost anything to protect the size and the scope of Washington D.C.'s burgeoning bureaucracy."

"Republicans will choose a path that actually reflects the will of the people which is to do the responsible thing and ensure that the government does not default on its obligations," McConnell said.

Sorry McConnell, no one is buying your lies anymore! You are on tape from as far back as 2009 saying that your one goal is the make Obama a one term President! You never mentioned jobs or the deficit. Your ONE GOAL is to get Obama out of office. Talk about getting your priorities straight. Shame!

MItch McConnell is one of the worst of the GOP bunch. He has since Obama's first days in office sought only to undermine, obstruct and belittle anything that Obama has done. I cannot recall one positive action McConnell has done that would show he puts country before politics.

The Republicans tell lies to get the public behind them, then they claim they are going with the will of the people. But when the will of the people are against them, they lie anyway and say "the people want___". No they don't!

Senator McConnell continues to be an affront to the American people with his years'-long attacks on Obama's Presidency. WE ELECTED HIM PRESIDENT, MR. MCCONNELL-WE DID NOT ELECT YOU. From the very start this twit has insisted that the Republicans' number one job was not jobs at all-but to get rid of Obama. He is hell-bent on taking the country down in trying to do just that. He seriously needs to be recalled from the Senate and sent to the sheds back home.

This old decrepit man doesn't care he's got one foot in the grave already, all he's concerned with is making sure our President fails.

And, mcconnell, in case you might be listening, THE PEOPLE WANT COMPROMISE. Give a little, take a lot, and get the country moving. Government doesn't work when one side takes ALL.

You're not even the Senate leader. Crawl back in your hole.

I hope if (when) the dems are back in the minority in the Senate, they use their ability to STOP PROGRESS (repug-style 'progress') as much as mcconnell does. But gutless dems are afraid repugs will say: "You're obstructionists" , and get their feelings hurt.

So while this guy spews his venom, guess who is back:
Rep. Joe Barton, Tx (sadly) has introduced legislation that would repeal the ban on incandescent light bulbs, because,
of course, the Government can't tell him what kind of light bulbs to buy. To heck with the energy cost savings in
households, forget the fact that the new ones do not contain mercury, forget the impact on the environment.
Little Joe boy wants those old fashioned light bulbs, which in the long run cost more.
Don't tell me the House Republicans aren't doing anything. We can hire people to come in and change our new
light bulbs back to the old ones, and voila, job creation.

What are we suppose to do, wait until the next election? The US goverment is big, because we are a big country. McConnell doesn't want to be the Fall Guy, just the Stall Guy. Don't pay the Military, don't pay old folks. The GOP will lose in 2012

We have the largest economy in the world and we have some of the highest taxes in the world. Put that together and you can figure out that the government is getting huge revenues already. Huge. The fact that the government has outspent those revenues by $15 trillion will tell you it has gotten completely out of hand. It's time to stop growing the bohemoth government and having it live within it's means. Raising taxes is just feeding the monster. Bad idea.

  17. Lost in Texas FOREVER

but as said before by Mitch himself the GOP DOES want to make sure that Obama is a one term president and if it takes tanking the economy to do it, i would not put it past them to do so. From hearing from some other progressives and even Sen Shumur from NY I am not the only one that thinks this way. Just google all the things the GOP was in favor of before Obama was also in favor then they switched. Look at all the job bills so far the GOP has proposed. Something wicked this way comes.

I am a registered Republican and have voted for Republican president before but if they contiunue this path, not only they loose my vote, i will make sure I campaign again them. No matter what president Obama brings to the table, they will come against it simply because they do not want him to succeed. The Republicans in Washington DC put party before Country. They have forgotten if "President" fails, it affects the whole country. They proclaim they are spiritually better than every other but "WHAT WILL JESUS DO" Read your bible you carry all around and know that you are to pray for your LEADER and not bring him down.

  20. The People's Will

Ok GOP you say you want to do the will of the people. Well I seen a survey that stated the will of the people 80% of those polled, stated that wealthy corprate america should pony up and not get thier tax breaks, doing for the will of the people my backside your doing it for the will of the rich and famous so they dont have to pay thier fair share of taxes and want to screw the middle class and elderly people that rely on certain programs you want to fund. GOP is a joke.

  21. Thankfully Independent

Why are the Republicans suddenly concerned about the deficit when they spent money like drunken sailors when Bush was president? Then they merrily raised the debt ceiling how many times without any wrist-wringing or teeth gnashing. Hypocrites like McConnell decide this is an issue only when the president is a Democrat.

One is all that is needed. Speaker Boehner has agreed to raise the debt ceiling as long as it includes spending cuts. There. They have offered a reasonable response that will allow the government to pay its bills. But that's not good enough for Obama. He wants to raise taxes. Huh?

    Four and the Door,

This is a new low, even for you. "The Republicans have been extremely cooperative about raising the debt ceiling"? They are basically saying that either do it their way, or they are going to blow things up. From whom did you learn about cooperation? Al Qaeda?

  25. Publius Novus

We understand Sen. McConnell. The Republican Party's number one goal is to remove President Obama from office. We got that the first time you said it.

GOP priorities in order of importance: 1) The GOP. 2) Wall Street. 3) The Rich Other Than Wall Street. 4) The Republican version of God. 5) The Nation.
