Bachmann blasts Obama on debt talks

(CNN) – Republican presidential candidate and Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann said the White House is using military personnel as pawns in a political game surrounding the ongoing deficit reduction talks.

"Don't allow our military men and women to dangle over a fire and think they won't get paid," Bachmann said at a press conference on Capitol Hill Wednesday.

If President Barack Obama and Congressional leaders don't reach a deal to raise the federal debt limit by Aug. 2, the government will default on its loans, resulting in what the White House warns as a potential economic disaster.

Should that happen, Obama said in a CBS News interview Tuesday there would be no guarantee that payments of military veterans' salaries would go out after the deadline.

Bachmann said the president's comments were scare tactics used to push Congress into raising the debt ceiling.

"That's a dangerous game to play," Bachmann said. "Take it off the table."

On Wednesday Bachmann announced a bill she's co-sponsoring with GOP Reps. Louie Gohmert of Texas and Steve King of Iowa that aims to ensure service members receive their paychecks on time.

House members made a similar proposal in April amidst concerns of a government shutdown.

Bachmann is a fraud through and through, if it's just a scare tactic, then why sponsor a bill to ensure it. Stop BSing and at least pay for the GOP's part of the 14.3 trillion, Obama's in only 3 trillion. The other 11 are all W's. Bachmann must have forgot that when she tongue kissed W after his state of the union........she just like Palin are laughing at all the "real Americans" on their way to the bank.

    Question:

If a candidate writes a book, and the RNC buys millions of copies to give out to donors and the candidate gets royalties off those purchases, why isnt' that money laundering?

So would Bachmann go out on the limb and make a promise that if the debt ceiling is not raised that our military will be paid? Forget about the other folks that also depend on government checks which she failed to mention. And if they were going to be paid regardless, why the need for Congress to pass a bill to do so? If anyone knows about scare tactics it's the GOP..they learned a great deal from Karl Rove.

This is not a game Michelle, those golden cows – Medicare, Social Security, and Defense spending account for 60% of our national budget and they are partially paid for by borrowed money. Unless you are willing to dramatically increase taxes to cover the shortfall, then I suggest you vote to raise the Debt ceiling.

Ms. Bachmann, shouldn't you be focusing on raising the debt limit instead of traveling around the country looking for votes? You and your party are the reasons why we have to keep raising the debt limit, remember those "blank checks" amendments?

Didn't she say that if we missed the deadline that the interest could be paid and other stuff would have to wait? This IS the other stuff!

Interesting position from someone who consistently uses scare tactics and divisive rhetoric to score points. I guess its okay when she does it.

Hate-mongering, lying, and pandering is all Bachmann does. And now she's teaming up with Gohmert and King (two of the biggest loons in Congress)? Eat you heart out original 3 Stooges...

This may actually be Crazy Shelly's first bill ever! I do not agree with FORMER Governor Polenta on anything, but he was correct when he stated that Crazy Shelly has/had a dismal Congressional record.

Personally, we should hold up every elected official's pay if they cannot resolve the debt ceiling issue by this weekend; time's a ticking, people!

Obama wants to take the whole debt ceiling off the table, it's the GOP that's making this an issue. The GOP voted 16 times to increase the debt ceiling and only now do they find it "difficult."

And non payment is exactly what will happen if it's not raised, Michelle. That along with a downgrading of America's credit status which will make us have to pay more on our existing debt and since our country's credit is tied to the rates our citizens pay, regular Americans will have higher interest payments on many of our debts.

But these facts elude Bachmann, who can't be bothered to educate herself unless it involves praying gay people straight.

The whole GOP candidate field disgusts me.

As usual Bachmann open mouth, insert foot, have it twisted, it is the rethugs who refuse to allow their bosses to lose their special tax break ,thats holding up the debt ceiling settlement. However, what the heck, why let facts get in the way of smoke and mirrors rethugs talking point.

  15. Former Republican, now an Independent

It is Bachman and her party that ran the U.S. into this crisis by engaging in 2 wars without funding them. Instead of raising taxes to fund their wars, they cut taxes to throw the country into further debt. Now they want the American working people to pay their bill by giving up their social security and medicare that they have worked and paid for.

Just look at M. Bachmann standing in front of those two goons. Who does she think she is blasting P. Obama!
She should watch her mouth. She is rich with her own words/mistakes blasting off lies/ comments herself.
This woman will NOT be president! Mark my word.

Don't even go there. You are now going to tell me how supportive you are for all of us on social security when you have been spewing crap about doing away with that and more. Like Cantor won't you play both sides from the middle dependent on your needs and to hell with anyone else. GO SUCK LEMONS

What an idiot! What she knows wouldn't fill a thimble. She has absolutely no concept of economics. So if I do things things according to her little republican mind, if I don't have enough money to pay my bills, just don't pay them and everything will be alright. Again, what an idiot.

Oh Boy... as a independent voter I am appauled by this seemingly hyper-response by Bachmann. The POTUS was stating a fact that if the debt ceiling was not raised he could not guarantee payments to outlays. This is a fact!! This coming from a representative that continues to spread false information and fear about the affordable care act commonly knows as Obama Care. Bachmann should be focusing her concern on upcoming stories that her husband and anti-gay activist/reformer could have infact practiced homosexuality earlier in his life and has been desperately fighting to supress his natural desires to be homosextual. Mark Bachmann needs to come out of the closet!! It's ok. No one will hate you for being yourself.... well, except for the Right Wing fanatics and possibly your wife.

Isn't this the woman who has already publicly stated that she will vote AGAINST raising the debt ceiling?

Regardless, she should talk to her GOP compatriots regarding this issue. THEY ARE THE PROBLEM. The President has offered them more than they asked for and they balked. If they are serious about the economic future of the U.S. (versus that of their uber-rich masters), they WILL take this deal.

Bachmann is an idiot. If she wants to assure military pay and social security payments are not effected, she should make her concerns known to Boehner, Cantor and McConnell.
