Bristol Palin optimistic about mom's 2012 run

(CNN) – Bristol Palin talked politics with Jay Leno Thursday, saying Sarah Palin's mid-term resignation as Alaska governor won't hurt her chances of running for president.

The 20-year-old said her mom stepped down in 2009 in response to a surge of lawsuits.

"It was just costing the state tons of money and us personally tons of money, and she just wasn't able to do her job with those lawsuits being filed," Bristol said.

Leno, however, pointed out that lawsuits against governors are "part of the job" in state politics.

"Not to the magnitude that she was getting," Bristol said. "She just wanted to put her state first."

The former Alaska governor was the subject of multiple ethics complaints, including an investigation that her staff allegedly pressured a public official to fire a state trooper who had been through a messy divorce with Palin's sister.

When Palin resigned in July 2009, she said she had already decided against running for re-election and felt that her time as a lame-duck governor would be wasteful for the state.

In another media appearance, Bristol told HLN's Dr. Drew Pinsky in an hour long special to air this coming Thursday that she "definitely" agrees her mom could win.

"I think she's so smart, and I think she can debate anyone and do very well," Bristol said.

When asked if Bristol hopes her mom doesn't make it to the White House–given the added media attention–Bristol said, "no."

"I think that people are going to be talking about my family and her and everyone else, uh, no matter what we're doing," Bristol said.

This summer Palin has visited crucial voting states such as Iowa and New Hampshire, but she has yet to announce a decision on whether she'll join the 10-member field of GOP presidential hopefuls.

But, according to Palin, Bristol has already weighed in on her mom's 2012 decision.

"I think Bristol has made up her mind, and Bristol wants me to run for president," Palin said in a recent interview with Newsweek. "But we're still thinking about it. I'm still thinking about it."

I'm about ready to give up on everybody! Why!!!!!!! in the world do you care about Bristol Palin's opinion on ANYTHING! She a frickin pregnant teen and now single mother like MILLIONS of other girls. Why not ask their opinion?? Do you think she's actually going to tell you what is ACTUALLY going on with their family??? And what's more, WHO CARES?!? Pull your heads out. Like tons of others, they are a ordinary family who for whatever reason got caught up in this disfunctional reality crap that seems to be very popular. They are no different from anyone else. The funny thing is... we've probably got people in our neighborhood that have more experience and knowledge of politics and the world than these guys. I'm not for either Republican or Democrat. I'm for a little of both. Both have good ideas and bad ideas. Get a good balance and we're good to go. Get off these stupid nitwits who just gobble up the attention and have no redeeming value. If we spent half as much time and money on real problems as we do on getting these types of people on TV and the media to listen to their constant crap we'd be in better shape. Sara Palin is no more qualified to be president than our landscaper and it is completely idiotic to think she is. Get on to better things – everyone.

Debt ceiling crisis, wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, hacking scandal now moving to the US, Republicans STILL not following up on their jobs promise and this is it? A stupid story about Bristol's reflections on that very dysfunctional family

I would have replied to Palin Power sooner, but had to use the barf bag. Unless P. Power is a Palin themselves, their head needs to be examined, the lights are on, but nobody is home. One things for sure, Palin's speech's would be short, her most popular phrase is "reload". What a bore.

Bristol told Christianity Today that people don't like Sarah because they're "vicious" and jealous of her. Why? Because she's got such a great family and God is on their side.

Yes, God is on the side of vanity, greed, lying, arrogance, vengeance, selfishness, pettiness, and hubris. Bristol also told CT her mom's too busy to go to church.

I guarantee you that if this country's airwaves had never been saturated with "reality TV" that Sarah Palin would never have made it so far.

I wonder what I'd have to do to get myself on CNN's Political Ticker? You don't even have to be anyone important or be anyone that's really done something to help the country. You don't have to be running for office; you can be an unwed teenaged mother; you can be the offspring of a former governor who quit her job and you can end up on the Political Ticker for no good reason whatsoever. It must be a slow news day. It's amazing that you can become famous (or infamous) just for being stupid!

This is NOT news. Come on CNN. There is a story on the Palin's almost everyday and none of it is newsworthy! Your time would be better spent elsewhere covering nearly anything else. Don't fall in the trap of covering a story because some other news service also covered it. Be a news leader NOT a follower.

Nice plastic surgery, Bristol. Did Mommy Dearest pay for that so you could go on the stump for her and be more photogenic? Or are you peddling another "Palin reality" series? Seriously. Just go away, all of you.

Someone ought to tell this clan of inbred losers that they lost their relevance a long time ago (not that they ever were releavnt) and they are nothing more than the 21st century version of the Larouche family. If theyare so confident they can win, what are they waiting for....until after the campaign is over. Rick Perry and Sarah Palin are late to their own party. HAS BEENS.
