Bristol Palin optimistic about mom's 2012 run

(CNN) – Bristol Palin talked politics with Jay Leno Thursday, saying Sarah Palin's mid-term resignation as Alaska governor won't hurt her chances of running for president.

The 20-year-old said her mom stepped down in 2009 in response to a surge of lawsuits.

"It was just costing the state tons of money and us personally tons of money, and she just wasn't able to do her job with those lawsuits being filed," Bristol said.

Leno, however, pointed out that lawsuits against governors are "part of the job" in state politics.

"Not to the magnitude that she was getting," Bristol said. "She just wanted to put her state first."

The former Alaska governor was the subject of multiple ethics complaints, including an investigation that her staff allegedly pressured a public official to fire a state trooper who had been through a messy divorce with Palin's sister.

When Palin resigned in July 2009, she said she had already decided against running for re-election and felt that her time as a lame-duck governor would be wasteful for the state.

In another media appearance, Bristol told HLN's Dr. Drew Pinsky in an hour long special to air this coming Thursday that she "definitely" agrees her mom could win.

"I think she's so smart, and I think she can debate anyone and do very well," Bristol said.

When asked if Bristol hopes her mom doesn't make it to the White House–given the added media attention–Bristol said, "no."

"I think that people are going to be talking about my family and her and everyone else, uh, no matter what we're doing," Bristol said.

This summer Palin has visited crucial voting states such as Iowa and New Hampshire, but she has yet to announce a decision on whether she'll join the 10-member field of GOP presidential hopefuls.

But, according to Palin, Bristol has already weighed in on her mom's 2012 decision.

"I think Bristol has made up her mind, and Bristol wants me to run for president," Palin said in a recent interview with Newsweek. "But we're still thinking about it. I'm still thinking about it."

    I don't watch Leno , he's no Carson !
As for the Caribou debutant , she can't dance !

As for her mother , she walked off the job because both her and Todd were going to be investigated over favoritism regarding gas pipeline contracts !

It's all about the money , not the law !

Everyone is still waiting for battle royal match between Palin and Bachmann, Alaska Mama Grizzly versus the Voodoo Prayer Faith Healer.

And not one of those law suits had any merit, right, Bristol? I've got a bridge for sale, and some beach front property in Arizona, if you're interested.

These people are so incredibly stupid! They can live in self-denial all they want. But Palin's decision to resign as Governor right after being badly beaten in the presidential election marked her as a QUITTER no matter the reason.

Leno was a big Bush supporter, so it's no surprise to me.

Palin has had 2 1/2 years to make up her mind!! I do not want leaders who cannot make decisions. I gave every buyer on my staff the following sign for their offices.

“The highways of life are littered with dead squirrels who could not make up their minds”

I actually feel sorry for Bristol, if she thinks her Mom is qualified to have the most important job in the world it just means she does not know reality. There have been hundreds of Governors that have had major legal issues and worked their way through and did not quit when the going got tough. If people quit elected positions when things got tough Obam would have quit years ago. If you know that you are guilty of what you are acused you are likely to quit, but if you are innocent and have that Mama Grizzly attitude there is no way you would quit. Besides not having the very strong character it takes to be POTUS quitting is the number two issue for Palin as to why she could never get elected.Poor Bristol is completley lost in space when it comes to what kind of person it takes to tackle the hardest job in the world. I just remembered why i quit watching late night shows like his.

Ifeel sorry for these fools. "A Fool And Their Money Is Soon Parted" Well Sarah does know that. Please Sarah if you are any type of real American or a Real Woman than please run. Just so I can see you get your B/U/T/T kick all the way back to Alaska, even they won't vote for you. Hahahah Delusion of Granduer. Palin Family = Idiots with money.

What a joke this whole family is. Bristol should demand her money back from the plastic surgeon who "worked" her face. She still looks like Miss Piggy; it's a shame she isn't as smart as the beloved muppet !

The Palins are DESPERATE to keep their name (and thus the money flow) in front of the public, particularly since Sarah's been upstaged by Michele Batshlt.

So sit back and enjoy... the sun is finally setting on the Palins.

Why are people even discussing what this nitwitt has to say? What did she do in her life that makes her an authority on anything? Why is the media giving her chance after chance? There are thousands of talented actors and performers who don't get any recognition in the media. Is Jay Leno so desperate to find a guest for his audience that he has to have this girl on his show?

Well if Bristol has spoken then it must be gospel. After all she has had so much of a life that she already needed to write a memoir. These Palins sure are full of themselves. And what little respect for Leno I had is gone now.

Bristol has to say she believes her mom could be president. It's sort of like a mother saying her child is beautiful although to the rest of the world the child is butt-ugly. Just the same, there are people who are stupid enough and gullible enough to believe she could be president. Just look at the previous comment of "Palin Power" if you need convincing.

Bristol has been drinking her mom's kool aid. Such a nice, sweet, innocent little girl....who knew not to have sex before marriage, but had no idea what to do in the event she changed her mind.

If Sarah cannot function well in the face of her accountability being questioned, how can she function as a US Pres.?

Palin Power- either you can't read, can't hear, or chose not to do either if you truly believe the Palin's would be good for this country. Liking the woman is one thing, even thinking some of what she says makes sense ( i haven't heard any of that yet) But to think she could help is so outlandish it scares me.
What scares me more is there are people out there think like you.

Well, if Bristol wants her to run, then of course she should run. After all, who can you think of who has demonstrated better judgment than Bristol Palin?

Mitt Romney will make a better president than Palin and Obama. Actually, there are many candidates better than Obama.

Unfortunately, there are many liberal lemmings that are willing to follow Obama off the economic cliff.
