Bristol Palin optimistic about mom's 2012 run

(CNN) – Bristol Palin talked politics with Jay Leno Thursday, saying Sarah Palin's mid-term resignation as Alaska governor won't hurt her chances of running for president.

The 20-year-old said her mom stepped down in 2009 in response to a surge of lawsuits.

"It was just costing the state tons of money and us personally tons of money, and she just wasn't able to do her job with those lawsuits being filed," Bristol said.

Leno, however, pointed out that lawsuits against governors are "part of the job" in state politics.

"Not to the magnitude that she was getting," Bristol said. "She just wanted to put her state first."

The former Alaska governor was the subject of multiple ethics complaints, including an investigation that her staff allegedly pressured a public official to fire a state trooper who had been through a messy divorce with Palin's sister.

When Palin resigned in July 2009, she said she had already decided against running for re-election and felt that her time as a lame-duck governor would be wasteful for the state.

In another media appearance, Bristol told HLN's Dr. Drew Pinsky in an hour long special to air this coming Thursday that she "definitely" agrees her mom could win.

"I think she's so smart, and I think she can debate anyone and do very well," Bristol said.

When asked if Bristol hopes her mom doesn't make it to the White House–given the added media attention–Bristol said, "no."

"I think that people are going to be talking about my family and her and everyone else, uh, no matter what we're doing," Bristol said.

This summer Palin has visited crucial voting states such as Iowa and New Hampshire, but she has yet to announce a decision on whether she'll join the 10-member field of GOP presidential hopefuls.

But, according to Palin, Bristol has already weighed in on her mom's 2012 decision.

"I think Bristol has made up her mind, and Bristol wants me to run for president," Palin said in a recent interview with Newsweek. "But we're still thinking about it. I'm still thinking about it."

Ms. Palin failed to mention the real possibility of her mother being prosecuted and removed from office as a reason for stepping down as governor.

Maybe Bristol should hit the Bachman clinic.....perhaps they can pray back her stolen virginity. She could also get a vacination against "gay" while she's there.

I want everyone to pause and think about this picture....we have a "child" without the common sense to protect herself from getting knocked up making alot of money and getting on TV shows now injecting herself into the State of Alaska's political condition and the Presidency. We have her mother playing a ridiculous game of self promotion and trying to create this mystery of whether she is running, which of course she will. If you dont see the self promotion and continuation of the family in injecting themselves not only into pocketbooks, but now into our general election then you are beyond hope. This family is a total scam. let by the biggest conartist and snake salesman of them all...Sarah Palin.

Great foil- Does not know the difference between ethics complaints and law suits- In her book she says Cindy McCain was trying to get guardianship of her child when all McCain did was say they would like to be godparents- Palin's obsession with portraying themselves as victims-

That nut didn't fall far enough from the Tree.

Since when does an unwed mother that only graduated (barely) high school get to speak with any authority on the Political Ticker. Someone must like her new plastic look.

You ignorant haters are in for a shock. Sarah is coming and won't be stopped. Do yourself a favor. See Undefeated this weekend. You'll find out you've been lied to. btw, Bristol's book is great. Hilarious story about Meghan McCain losing her mind because she had to wait to get her hair done.

Why do these liberals hate people that actually work hard and earn their success and status in the community?

  15. Liberal in Wyoming're wrong again. Must be a Palin thing. Mommy quitting mid-first term as governor is a huge road block in a potential run for president. That and the fact that she is ill-experienced, ignorant, agumentative, polarizing, ill-spoken, unintelligent, and just a plain all around twit, will prevent her from ever being this country's president. If she wants to amuse the majority of this country, then run, but it would be a waste of money to do so.

Hooray for Bristol! Hooray for Bristol!

Thank you so much for your input. I feel so much better. Only your mother can save our country. She would be the best president we ever had. I hope when she is elected, she will nominate you to be Secretary of State. You would be fantastic. You are so smart and attractive. America needs you too. Please convince your mother to run. America Needs her so much.

What frightens me is that Ms Palin is the one that called her ex-boyfriend "a media whore."

Is there anything that she hasn't or will do (such as her uncoming reality show in which she and her son will live with two single guys) to, apparently, be in the limelight?
