(CNN) – Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann has come around to the conservative "Cut, Cap and Balance" pledge and will sign it on Monday in the key early primary state of South Carolina.
Bachmann's campaign revealed the decision Saturday in an e-mail announcing a two-day trip to South Carolina next week.
She will join most of the other Republican presidential hopefuls, including frontrunner Mitt Romney, who have signed the pledge to dramatically slash government spending and pass a federal balanced budget amendment before agreeing to any hike in the debt ceiling.
Bachmann is among the staunchest conservatives in the Republican field, but she had previously refused to sign the pledge, saying it was too timid.
Instead, she wanted it to include a promise to defund President Obama's health care law as well. That no longer appears to be the case.
Anyone who has given up their right to govern by signing away the ability to think with these pledges. Will not get my vote.
Ms Bachmann has no ability to see things from another's point of view or to incorporate new information into her view of the world. Such an inflexible personality is unfit for the job of president, senator, or representative.
Her view that nothing bad happens when a country defaults (in any small way) on its payments is a very dangerous idea.
Bachmann is a total nut case, face it. Her eyes have the look of a dumb dog, have you noticed???
Just another extreme right-wing, radical christian, wanting to take America back to the 16th centruy, doing there usual, flip-flop, flip-flop, flip-flop...
Surprise, surprise. This has been her stance all along anyways, whether she signs a pledge or not.
I find it interesting how the Republicans are taking their marching orders (and in so doing jeopardizing the economic stablility of our country) from an unelected corporate fat cat (Grover Norquist) instead of the people who elected them into office.
I think it's time we had a "American Summer" revolution of our own to remind these nut jubs who they REALLY serve and should be pledging to.....U.S., we the people of the United States of America!!!!!
She talked with God and God said: "Michelle, I want you to sign the Cap, Cut and don't Spend Pledge" and forget about what my Son Jesus said about the least of thine, instead he meant to say take care of the wealthiest of thine....
I think none of the Christian Republicans has never read any gospel of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
"Give unto Caesar what is Caesar's, and give unto God what is God's. Sounds to me like Jesus is talking about separation of church and state. In addition, he is also stating that taxes are necessary, since the gospels stated he was in line to pay his taxes and while some around him were complaining, he made this very dramatic statement. Jesus understood the value of a having a sound infrastructure and other services that the Romans provided. Meanwhile, the Republicans are busy signing pledges to Grover Norquist, who is the Tea Party's and Republican's new God. In the old days, we would take Grover and run him out of town or the Country tar and feathered....I think we may have found the new replacement for Osama Bin Laden. Note to Grover: Be very afraid of noises that sound like a helicopter landing in your backyard...LOL!
Note to Michelle Bachman: Had the wages of average middle class Americans gone up about 2% above the inflation rate these last 10.5 years, 8 of them under a Republican administration, we wouldn't be having this debate about the debt ceiling, because with the increased wages would have come increased tax revenue. In addition if the Bush administration had not given a very large percentage of the tax breaks to wealthy individuals and the wealthy Corporations had not screwed the average American worker with basically no pay raises, we would be talking about recored surpluses and an ever expanding economy. Now we have dumb butts like Michelle Bachman that want to dight the middle class deeper into the ground.
Instead of trying to cure gays, your husband and you should find a new line of work like running a "Dude" ranch in Montana.
Still waiting for one of your 27 foster children to come out and say something good about you and Uncle Marcus....get my drift. What a hypocrite, taking money from Medicaid and other Government agencies. The skeletons are just starting to come out of the closet....more to come in droves...
I don't care how many fake pledges she signs.... that does not mean she's ready to sign real documents as president. A pledge is only as good as it's pledger.... so therefore, it's a stupid pointless wannabe of a formality. Bottom line, Michelle Bachmann is a bonafide crazy idiot. She should not be allowed near the white house even for a tour... she's far worse and far more stupid than Palin ever was.
If Ms. Bachmann would pledge to tell the truth for once, that would be real news.
The fascist clique en route to usurping power from the people, financed by fat cats like the Koch "roach" brothers, will say and do anything they want, because the corporate media allows them to propagandize without question. CNN, like the other corporate media outlets are just stenographers to the right wing cockroaches like Palin, Bachmann, Gingrich and the multitude of insects that call themselves Teabagging Republicans.
It doesn't really matter what she does. She is NOT going to win the republican primary and even if she did, she would be blown away in the general election by President Obama. So there it is, plain and simple. In the meantime – while she's spending other people's hard-earned money – Enjoy the show!
Republicans, read my lips.....NO NEW PLEDGES!
Um how can she sign a pledge and run for President. Isn't that a conflict of interest? The only Pledge that the President should take it the Oath to Office. THe President is suppose to work for the people. Infact all these nuts are suppose to work for the people.
ed, leslie, are you two ex so called patients of the bachman clinic of quackery?
That pledge will be valid until the moment the republicans return to power. Then it will be more of the W program; massive spending increases coupled with tax cuts for the wealthiest few, leading to,,,,, guess what?
Taking all of these pledges shows a lack of commitment to the oath they took at congressmen and woman. That oath is the only oath they need or should take and unfortunately, they aren't keep their word. This is just like the stupid pledge the GOP candidates are taking in Iowa...ridiculous.
Since the right wing extremists seem to hate laws, government, and all those that aren't super wealthy; why don't they move to Somalia? There's no government there whatsoever. Come to think of it, since the right wing hates our democracy so much why do they even bother going into politics?
These politicians need to make a pledge to Norquist – not the US Constitution or to WeThe People.
They will change their minds on promises made during campaigns but they will never go against their pledge to Norquist.
Sad commentary. Now for our politicians (not 'leaders") attract campaign contributions first, sign a promise to Grover Norquist (selling their soul to another 'devil') and then attarct our votes with lies.
I just wish we could have clinton for another 8 years
Do any of these whack jobs ever make a pledge to the American people? Why, with salaries and benefits being paid by the American people, are they only making pledges to special interest groups? There has to be a republican out there who can think for themselves, isn't there? Just one? Olympia Snow used to be one but the repukes said "sign a pledge or your out next year".
It's appalling how some people believe Bachmann is a "strong woman" and a "smart woman." Leslie A Howard-Redweik, if she is such a great person, why wouldn't she stand by her original pledge to "NOT" sign the "Cut, Cap and Balance" pledge unless funding is cut from the health care law? Flip Flop Flip Flop. Anything for votes.
IT's good the right wing has painted themselves into an extremely small corner – it makes the rest of the house much more inhabitable.
