RNC maps out White House foul

Washington (CNN)-It's never too early to play hardball presidential politics. Republican National Committee Chair Reince Priebus penned a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder asking for an investigation of an "apparent crime" committed by President Barack Obama Monday.

According to Priebus, the crime was committed by the president, in the Map Room, with a video.

Priebus accused the president of recording a fundraising appeal in the Map Room of the White House. He said it is "not part of the White House residence, but rather 'occupied in the discharge of official duties,'" and called for the Department of Justice to investigate.

The Map Room is located on the ground floor of the White House.

"According to multiple individuals with knowledge of the White House's rooms and layout, the video appears to have been recorded in the Map Room...the White House Counsel has indicated that the video was filmed somewhere in the residential portion of the White House," Priebus said.

It is illegal to solicit contributions for a political purpose from any area of the White House "occupied in the discharge of official duties," or, used for purposes of official White House business.

But the Map Room is considered to be part of the White House residence, and has been for decades. The residence is not subject to restrictions placed on rooms used for official business.

White House spokesman Eric Schultz told CNN, "As we've said in the past, this was wholly appropriate and routinely done in past administrations."

"Many lawyers and experts have all said publicly that what this administration is doing is completely above board," Schultz fired back.

Despite the RNC's claims, both Republican and Democratic administrations have considered the Map Room as part of the White House residence.

From the RNC: Hi, we are having a tea party and no intelligent people are allowed. The most intelligent and capable of correcting the criminal deeds of the past ten Bush Cheney years are the Democrats. They will fix whatever is wrong with America just give them time. The RNC and their friends in high places have committed crimes against America and have gotten away with it. But that is Ok now because there is a decent and intelligent black man in the WHITE house calling himself the President and that cannot be accepted..

Hmmm. Let's see. Republican President Nixon resigned rather than face sure impeachment for criminal activities. Republicans attempted to impeach Pres. Clinton because they were angry at voters for electing him to a 2nd term. And now we have Republicans who are seeking to do the same with another Democratic president. It seems to me that Republicans are the bad boys here.

Aaaaw, the $86M scared little Rinse P-nis...how cute. Past Presidents have all used the residence portion of the WH in ads like this. All this amounts to is more political idiocy from these GOP morons and a big giant red flag that they crapped their manpampers when they heard how much money Obama raised.

More nonsense from the Republican party. Why don't they grow up and do something constructive? Who could ever believe that they are serious about doing the peoples' business?

As a government employee I've seen a couple people get suspensions from their jobs for violating the Hatch Act.

Why do all you DUmmies insist that the president is above the laws that the "simple" people have to abide by?

Well considering the fact Obama has conducted official business in the map room (retaking oath of office, greeting Dali Lama), he can't make the argument that its part of the residence.
Also to the Obamatons, Priebus has nothing to do with the debt ceiling negotiations as he has no official government post. Unlike Democrats republicans tend not to have the leader of their national committee have another job. perhaps you all would be better off asking why dear leader is afraid of a balanced budget.

He's in the wrong room! Vs. Weapons of Mass Delusion and thousands of lives as the cost? Way to keep your priorities straight, Priebus.

Republican strategy: Throw enough "crap" at the wall and some of it is bound to stick. Looks like it is starting early this year. Everyone needs to roll up their pants for the next 15 months. I can't wait for the next one: "Obama spent too much time in the bathroom the other day–he is wasting time." Or maybe it will be "Obama caused the US to lose the women's soccer game in the world cup". Send in the clowns

The RNC needs to look at the real Map and see that the U.S. is not a 3rd-world country where there is only the very rich and the very poor and stop trying to legislate that way!!!

When the Attorney general dismisses the claim, the republicans will cry cover up. Shouldn't they be working on getting the debt ceiling raised?

Are you kidding me? After all the war crimes and other crimes committed by the Bush administration, they want an investigation of this? It's Bush and Cheney who should be in jail. Unbelievable nerve!!! Methinks they doth protest too much.

It is hilariously amusing reading the liberal responses on this blog. All of you are grasping at ANYTHING to deflect attention away from the incredibly dismal demise of this country brought on by Obama and his czar hacks. This man-child will take Cater's place as the worst president in America' great history. Take your blinders off people he is destroying your futures!
