RNC maps out White House foul

Washington (CNN)-It's never too early to play hardball presidential politics. Republican National Committee Chair Reince Priebus penned a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder asking for an investigation of an "apparent crime" committed by President Barack Obama Monday.

According to Priebus, the crime was committed by the president, in the Map Room, with a video.

Priebus accused the president of recording a fundraising appeal in the Map Room of the White House. He said it is "not part of the White House residence, but rather 'occupied in the discharge of official duties,'" and called for the Department of Justice to investigate.

The Map Room is located on the ground floor of the White House.

"According to multiple individuals with knowledge of the White House's rooms and layout, the video appears to have been recorded in the Map Room...the White House Counsel has indicated that the video was filmed somewhere in the residential portion of the White House," Priebus said.

It is illegal to solicit contributions for a political purpose from any area of the White House "occupied in the discharge of official duties," or, used for purposes of official White House business.

But the Map Room is considered to be part of the White House residence, and has been for decades. The residence is not subject to restrictions placed on rooms used for official business.

White House spokesman Eric Schultz told CNN, "As we've said in the past, this was wholly appropriate and routinely done in past administrations."

"Many lawyers and experts have all said publicly that what this administration is doing is completely above board," Schultz fired back.

Despite the RNC's claims, both Republican and Democratic administrations have considered the Map Room as part of the White House residence.

They tell me that laughing is good for people. Well, we sure are getting a dose of it lately. In fact, everytime a Republican opens his mouth or a new one declares he is running to be president.

No shock here, the RNC care more about getting Barack Obama's black arse out of the White House than doing their job. C'mon Man!!!

It's obvious the vast majority of readers and posters are fed up with the republicans and the RNC. The petty diversions are not going to work... although our nation is moving toward plutocracy (rule by the wealthy, or power provided by wealth – see Wikipedia) we need to remember that each citizen has a vote and can destroy that notion. Then we need to abolish (outlaw) the influence of lobbyists that work counter to the dignity and ideals of America.

The RNC should release the millions of "missing" emails sent from Rove's (Bush's political advisor) RNC account to Bush around 2003. I'd like to know if the Iraq war was part of Bush's re-election strategy to "look tough" in the wake of 9/11.

This guy looks - and acts - like Pee Wee Herman. Somebody within striking distance please back hand him and send him to his room - anybody who lines up with the Republicans should be really embarrassed about this. But then again, Republicans have a lot to be embarrassed about these days.

Can't wait until Jon Stewart's staff spends 10 minutes finding video of repub administrations doing the same thing.

Where are all the jobs you promised Priebus? Shouldn't you be working on that?

If you remove the vowels from Reince Priebus' name, it is RNC PR BS.

So we are facing a debt crisis, a jobs crisis, wars overseas and the head of the RNC wants an investigation because of a commercial filmed in a room of the white house. This is really that much more important to the RNC then the jobs they promised yet have not delivered.

RNC is grasping at straws. Get real guys. If you go back in history, every president in the past hs done that. This is just to create some distraction so the president can surrender to RNC's demands for the rich.

Talk to Presidents Bush I & II, and President Reagan (and probably Clinton). They are all guilty of this "crime".

I can't believe the RNC can be getting desperate already, so this must just be a distraction from the beating in the polls they are taking on their debt ceiling hostage standoff. Surely Reince Priebus could create a better distraction if he tries a little harder.

This guy is childish and should be embarassed. Doesn't he have better things to do? It actually gives me a creepy feeling to see evidence of such time-wasting behavior from our "leaders". Scary.

New! From the party that said and did nothing about indefinite detentions, secret prisons, warantless wiretapping, and two aggressive wars! Yes, Rancid Priapus... THIS is the legal issue you should be worried about.

When children get desperate over not getting their way this is precisely how they act! That congressional tea-baggers are nothing more than ego-inflated children has never been more obvious!

Another distraction from the same party that is torpedoing our economy.

I'm all for cutting our debt, but you don't eliminate safety nets in hard times when they are most needed. It's time to TAX THE RICH rather than let them create more jobs in Asia, where they invest those tax breaks we keep giving them!

That this Bag of Scum would take precious time out of the Americans tax money that pays his $180,000/yr salary with Free Socialized Government Run Health Care, that he will wind up only giving up over his eventualy cold dead body, is amazing since he should be focused on creating jobs for the American People ... and to think that they really have no shame for the amount of abundant lies they tell ... how unfortunate to have sold your Body and Soul to the richest one percent so they can manufacture a crisis and watch theur good friends who have been investing in gold, to watch the dollar intentioanlly plummet and watch Gold go thru the roof .... Something is definately UP ... and the Media won't even cover it ....

Just like the debt ceiling, Republicans want to change the rule when a Democrat is in the White House. The debt ceiling has been raised 102 times since 1917. It has been raised 86 times since 1950, 57 of those occurred when a Republican was president (66%).

Well Thank you Mr Priebus, I will call my Congressman, Phil GIngery and I am sure he can propose a " Constitutional Amendment" to make sure this never happens again.......Is everyone in the GOP an idiot?

I am really tired of hearing about Bush did this and Bush did that, get a life, he is goine and has been gone for nearly 3 years! The current administration does the same stuff, lies-cheats-steals. It is called Washington DC and it is the same game played by all players. Those dumb enough to believe that either administration is honest and looking out for YOUR good has their heads burried in the sand and still thinks the world is flat too. None of the major players in Washington DC tell the truth. They lie, cheat, and steal in order to keep stuffing their own pockets and the pocjkets of their friends with OUR money. Again, they could care less about anyone but themselves and prove it over and over again with their actions. So what's new?

    Let the Swift-boating begin!

Make something up and repeat it as often as you can afford and the sheeple will faithfully take it to heart. Worked beautifully for the conservatives in 2004.
