RNC maps out White House foul

Washington (CNN)-It's never too early to play hardball presidential politics. Republican National Committee Chair Reince Priebus penned a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder asking for an investigation of an "apparent crime" committed by President Barack Obama Monday.

According to Priebus, the crime was committed by the president, in the Map Room, with a video.

Priebus accused the president of recording a fundraising appeal in the Map Room of the White House. He said it is "not part of the White House residence, but rather 'occupied in the discharge of official duties,'" and called for the Department of Justice to investigate.

The Map Room is located on the ground floor of the White House.

"According to multiple individuals with knowledge of the White House's rooms and layout, the video appears to have been recorded in the Map Room...the White House Counsel has indicated that the video was filmed somewhere in the residential portion of the White House," Priebus said.

It is illegal to solicit contributions for a political purpose from any area of the White House "occupied in the discharge of official duties," or, used for purposes of official White House business.

But the Map Room is considered to be part of the White House residence, and has been for decades. The residence is not subject to restrictions placed on rooms used for official business.

White House spokesman Eric Schultz told CNN, "As we've said in the past, this was wholly appropriate and routinely done in past administrations."

"Many lawyers and experts have all said publicly that what this administration is doing is completely above board," Schultz fired back.

Despite the RNC's claims, both Republican and Democratic administrations have considered the Map Room as part of the White House residence.

In the end, governing its all about values and priorities. Politics is about adding votes. This childish, silly claim addresses neither. This is the best the head of the RNC can do, while his party is led by Grover and Eric Cantor. Looks like reelection for Obama as Mitt's warm & fuzzy personality isn't appealing to a majority and Rick Perry can't decide what to do. Go Michelle Go!!!

If the Dems had half the choot-spa of the GOP, Bush would have been impeached......ten times!

  4. Let's get rational now

Wow. 14 million people out of work, people in congress can't even agree on who goes to the bathroom first, getting ready to not renew the debt ceiling and cripple both our economy and the world's economy because of a few tea party morons and this guy with a name I can't (and don't care to) pronounce cares about this nonsense. Talk about keeping your eye on what is really important.

I assume this guy is somewhat intelligent (maybe a wrong assumption) so why doesn't he get to work solving some of our problems instead of spewing this idiocy. Better yet, go get a real job that contributes to the bottom line of America instead of what he is doing now.

If any other party Dem or Independent, would have accused a repuke president of anything.......just the fact of feeling disrespected would have put anyone on trail for treason, if this country defaults the repukes should be brought up for treason. Just b/c they didn't like an elected by the people president.....you heard them say that they will do anything to make our president a one term, that included destroying our country. Better start practicing search threw garbage cans cause we all gonna lose our American way of life....believe that.

The GOP has done everything it can to destroy Obama's presidency. They are not patriots. They are more interested in getting back into power then the welfare of our country. I can't wait for 2012 when I vote for Obama for President.

This latest "revelation" proves why President Obama should be re-elected. If this is the worst thing he has done, I'm ok with that. I wouldn't have wanted them to waste tax dollars on this if it was Bush either. Time to go gome, little boys of the RNC.

Seriously, is that all you can come up with? What's next? Put him in jail for breaking his mom's back because he stepped on a crack in the sidewalk? If this joker was in my party I'd throw him out in a heartbeat

This really smacks of desperation by the RNC just after Obama's re-election campaign committee announced his latest contribution amounts.

All I can think of is that the Republicans know how bad the economy is going to get, and so therefore are trying to make themselves so laughably irritating that they get voted out en masse – and then they can let the Demos take the blame for our collapse. Either that, or the Republican Party doesn't remember 1995 as well as I do.

In 1979, the Office of Legal Counsel found the map room was not part of the official offices within the White House.

There's nothing illegal here - unless you call Prebius's lies a crime.

This is what the Karl Rove trained Republican party is so good at. They find something ridiculously trivial compared to true pressing issues out there. Then they get it out to their propaganda ministry where people like Limbaugh and Hannity are going to use it as proof of what a communist Obama is. Then their mindless drones will post on web sites. Unfortunately as long as a healthy % of voters in this country possess a terminally short attention span, they can be successful with this sort of nitpicky attack.

What about all the free campaign air time GOP presidential candidates received while supposedly acting as paid analysts on Fox news?

These people are making a laughing stalk of America. What a joke for the rest of the world.
Years ago I predicted that America will build a security wall around itself and implode within. We are going fast in that direction.

Obvious time-wasting politics. If there was anythang to it some elected Repugnantcan would have put his face on this, but since its just a time-waster that would annoy the electorate this clown Pribus blows the smoke. Just disgusting. Can we get back to the real business of this country?

Has any one checked the birth certificate of Reince Priebus? He doesn't look American or have an American name, he looks like a French man.

He later asked for an official probe after claiming the first lady wore white after labor day. When it was pointed out to him that labor day is in fact in September and hasnt happened yet, he retorted that as far as he was concerned it was in June.

I'm all for charging him with crimes.

As long as we arrest Dick Cheney, G Bush, Donald rumsfeld, Paul wolfowitz and others.

Would be great putting people who created a war based on lies, that has killed a hundred thousand people.

Americans love murdering and killing people, because we are a violent and immoral nation
