Romney: I will return to Iowa

(CNN) – He won't be competing in a crucial straw poll in Ames, Iowa next month, but Mitt Romney says he'll be spending more time in the state which holds the first contest in the presidential primary and caucus calendar.

"My wife and I will be campaigning in Iowa," Romney said Monday night in a tele-town hall with nearly 10,000 Iowa Republicans, "You won't be seeing too little of us."

Cain: Romney can't win

(CNN) - Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain claimed Monday Mitt Romney cannot beat President Obama in the 2012 election.

The former Godfather's Pizza CEO said his prediction is based on "RomneyCare," the health care law Romney signed five years ago while governor of Massachusetts and his failure to explain his Mormon religion when competing in Southern states during his last presidential run.

Election Day in Wisconsin, recall style

(CNN) - The first of nine recall elections will take place Tuesday in Wisconsin, with incumbent Democratic state Sen. Dave Hansen pitted against Republican David VanderLeest, the latest fallout from the bitter state battle over collective bargaining rights that shut down the state legislature for weeks in February and March.

Two other Republican primaries are also slated in the state Tuesday, the winners of which will compete in a recall election on August 16.

Ex-Gang of Six members to unveil debt plan to other senators Tuesday

Washington (CNN) – Members of a bipartisan group of senators who worked for months to forge an agreement to make deep reductions in the federal debt will unveil a plan to slash trillions of dollars off that debt over the next 10 years.

The former Gang of Six members will reveal their plan privately Tuesday to a group of 40 to 50 senators.

CNN: Debt fallback plan gains momentum as GOP plans symbolic votes
Top administration and congressional officials are expected to continue working this week on a measure to raise the federal debt ceiling by up to $2.5 trillion, embracing a version of a fallback plan designed by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell to avoid a potentially catastrophic default.
