Wasserman Schultz, West let the fur fly

Washington (CNN)-The debt debate got ugly over the internet between two Florida representatives on either side of the House aisle. Freshman Congressman Allen West ripped into Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz over e-mail following her comments on the House floor Tuesday.

Calling the Democratic National Committee Chair the "most vile, unprofessional, and despicable member" of the House, West said, "Look, Debbie, I understand that after I departed the House floor you directed your floor speech comments directly towards me. Let me make myself perfectly clear, you want a personal fight, I am happy to oblige."

CNN obtained a copy of the e-mail from a congressional source.

Wasserman Schultz offended the tea party favorite by directly disparaging his support of the "Cut, Cap and Balance" bill that went on to pass the House of Representatives late Tuesday-after he left the floor.

"Incredulously, the gentleman from Florida. who represents thousands of Medicare beneficiaries, as do I, is supportive of this plan that would increase costs for Medicare beneficiaries," she said, calling West's approval of the plan "unbelievable from a member from South Florida."

West fired back in his message, challenging the four-term Democrat.

"If you have something to say to me, stop being a coward and say it to my face, otherwise, shut the heck up. Focus on your own congressional district!" he railed.

"From this time forward, understand that I shall defend myself forthright against your heinous characterless behavior…You have proven repeatedly that you are not a Lady, therefore, shall not be afforded due respect from me!"

But Jonathan Beeton, a spokesman for Wasserman Schultz, charged that West's grievance was not actually with the congresswoman.

"I don't think that Congressman West is upset at the Congresswoman, but rather with the fact that she highlighted that he and other Republicans are once again trying to balance the budget on the backs of seniors, children and the middle class," Beeton said. "The truth hurts."

And West refused to leave his gripe on the House floor. Signing the e-mail "Steadfast and Loyal," West vowed, "I am bringing your actions today to our Majority Leader and Majority Whip."

CNN's Deirdre Walsh contributed to this report.

I believe cuts need to start with our Senators and House Representatives. Instead of cutting costs affecting the seniors andmiddle class, the cuts need to start with cutting the wages of the Senators and House Representatives. Since they feel theneed to not work along side one another and help the American people who elected them, let's start with these cuts and see how fast they become more willing to work out the problems of the debt.

Mr. West is correct. She is "VILE" and she is a liar!

After reading the comments on this story now all I can say is "useful idiots". No wonder our country is in such trouble.

As a black person, Allen West makes me sad. He only reinforces the stereotype of black people being less intelligent and constantly looking for ways to take offense to things and picking fights. This makes me a sad panda.

People in the public eye must personally bear responsibility for their actions for or against the public interest. Calling them out on their actions is totally civic.

WEST has shown that once again you cannot take the NAZI out of the republican party.
NAZIS come in different shapes, sizes & colors & anyone who supports the TEA PARTY should read the following ...

The Tea Party is really the ..... TEA POTTY ..... & I am not talking about the BOSTON ACCENT.
The TEA POTTY is where all good ideas get washed down the toilet, leaving only a few skid marks to be turned into TEA POTTY rhetoric.
The TEA POTTY sect wishes to relive a certain incident which occured in Boston Harbor on Dec.16,1773.
They somehow equate the American Colony's protest against a 'tax on tea' with the current political situation.
In other words, they wish to overthrow the current Government & set up a White Supremacist Nation where Liberals, Gays, Blacks, Jews, darker skinned Latinos, Muslims, Buddhists & all NON-christians will have some semblence of democracy until they are slowly & inevitably exterminated.
Except of course for those UNEQUALS who are unusually well trained & educated & can become useful in the new America.
    Professional Athletes for example!
The TEA POTTY movement (think bowel) needs to be flushed down the proverbial sewer where it sprang up from.
Like a new infectuous disease which gathers strength quickly & mutates, the TEA POTTIERS will eventually be destroyed by a combination of disinfectants such as the MAJORITY of the American People will supply.

TO: MrC. Hard to compare this to anything either of these two extremists say. Not even in the same ballpark. These two women are about sensationalism. PERIOD.

The repulicans have so soon forgotten that they were brought into office by independent voters, the same voters who will send them packing in 2012. Compromise means that both sides have to make concessions. What have the republicans offered to concede? Last i checked they were still crying "my way or no way"! Close loopholes for big corporations and wall st. Allow small business owners tax breaks or some kind of incentives. Catering to the over-priviledged is not the answer. Oh, but then they feel they are "entitled". to their entitlements.

Perhaps he should have his head checked–can you say "anger issues." This guy and his tea bagger buddies are like crazed villagers running amok in the streets after eating bad wheat.

I know this makes me old-fashioned, but what does it say of a man when he says to a woman "you want a personal fight, I am happy to oblige". I know they are both (presumably) professionals, and also (presumably) able to carry on an intellectual debate, in fact they should to represent their respective constituencies, but Mr. West's quick leap to street-fight vernacular indicates something to me about his manhood. And its not complimentary.

I've seen a lot of stuff come out of the mouths of politicians over the years, but this invective from West is the most disrespectful, churlish, and completely uncalled-for response I've ever seen from an elected official. How anyone in his district could now vote to re-elect a man who can engage in such a childish overreaction, I have no idea.

Wait – West is this ticked off just because she referred to him while he wasn't there? Grow a spine, West.

Or...is he perhaps simply trying to shift attention away from the content of her statements by feigning offense at her talking about him in his absence?

  17. Retired Army in San Antonio

Not only in West an idiot......but he's a lying idiot.

This is the clown (for those of you who don't know) who's a retired Army Lieutenant Colonel and stated during his campaign that he had a higher security clearance than the President.......I mean, like.....REALLY?!?!?!?

And this is a lie that he had stated more than once! He was trying to dupe a group of seniors into believing that he had National Security 'cred'.

This guy is a flat out cad; totally unfit for public office!!!

Congressman West lost the debate and Debbie has under control. As many said, the truth hurts. The man showed America how irresponsible he is.

  20. Really?

I really have to wonder if West would have taken offence so explosively if Wasserman-Schultz was a male. I also wonder about those who still support West. Wasserman-Schultz's comments were fairly focused (albeit critical) and directly related to his support of Cut, Cap and Balance. His response was personal, and nonsensical. That is plain for any fair-minded person to see. And yet some still defend West? Really?

You people amaze me. Wasserman-Shultz was in the wrong and LtCol West was correct. The Republician are not the one trying to cut medicare....Mr. Obama recommended 500 billion in cuts. Do your research before you open your mouth. What part of that don't you people understand?

You Democratics need to stop feeding off of those of us who take all the risk to start and grow a business and create jobs.. If your life is so shitty that you need to take from the rich, do something to change your standard of living. Stop relying on the Government and stop freaking complaining.

  24. Shulz must go

Wasserman Shulz needs to go. She doesn't offer any solutions. Instead she sits around playing politics, using scare tactics and slandering the other side of the aisle. I thought the dems were for 'civil discourse'. What a joke that turned out to be. The day Obama called for civil discourse, he slandered his opposition.

VOTE DEBBIE OUT. VOTE OUT all politicians that can't agree to disagree without acting like a total idiot.

Typical vile comment from a vile Tea Partier. When are the American people going to wake up to the fact that the republican party could care less about them & only care about promoting themselves & their agenda. No, democarats are not perfect, but at least they really care about all people as does Congresswoman Wassernmann-Scultz. A civilized nation cares for ALL it's citizens not just a chosen few. Clearly the republicans want to decrease tthe United States' civilization to a THIRD WORLD COUNTRY.
