Wasserman Schultz, West let the fur fly

Washington (CNN)-The debt debate got ugly over the internet between two Florida representatives on either side of the House aisle. Freshman Congressman Allen West ripped into Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz over e-mail following her comments on the House floor Tuesday.

Calling the Democratic National Committee Chair the "most vile, unprofessional, and despicable member" of the House, West said, "Look, Debbie, I understand that after I departed the House floor you directed your floor speech comments directly towards me. Let me make myself perfectly clear, you want a personal fight, I am happy to oblige."

CNN obtained a copy of the e-mail from a congressional source.

Wasserman Schultz offended the tea party favorite by directly disparaging his support of the "Cut, Cap and Balance" bill that went on to pass the House of Representatives late Tuesday-after he left the floor.

"Incredulously, the gentleman from Florida. who represents thousands of Medicare beneficiaries, as do I, is supportive of this plan that would increase costs for Medicare beneficiaries," she said, calling West's approval of the plan "unbelievable from a member from South Florida."

West fired back in his message, challenging the four-term Democrat.

"If you have something to say to me, stop being a coward and say it to my face, otherwise, shut the heck up. Focus on your own congressional district!" he railed.

"From this time forward, understand that I shall defend myself forthright against your heinous characterless behavior…You have proven repeatedly that you are not a Lady, therefore, shall not be afforded due respect from me!"

But Jonathan Beeton, a spokesman for Wasserman Schultz, charged that West's grievance was not actually with the congresswoman.

"I don't think that Congressman West is upset at the Congresswoman, but rather with the fact that she highlighted that he and other Republicans are once again trying to balance the budget on the backs of seniors, children and the middle class," Beeton said. "The truth hurts."

And West refused to leave his gripe on the House floor. Signing the e-mail "Steadfast and Loyal," West vowed, "I am bringing your actions today to our Majority Leader and Majority Whip."

CNN's Deirdre Walsh contributed to this report.

So let me get this straight....Mr. West is mad because she made some disparaging comments. Got it. Okay, that's par for the course in Washington. Better toughen up if you plan on having any kind of longevity to your career in DC.

You know what else is par for the course....Democrats somehow presenting the position that even in the most dire economic circumstance our country has faced in multiple generations, people on Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, Welfare, Food Stamps, etc...should NEVER EVER be asked to pay ONE DAMN PENNY MORE than what they are paying now. And anyone implying otherwise is a heartless goon who deserves to be shouted down, no epithet withheld.

It's comforting to know that all of these programs will cost the same in 30 years when I need them as they do today thanks to the benevolent Democrats. Who cares if it means anyone making over $50,000/year (don't kid yourselves, there are D's who think that makes you "rich") by that point will be paying 70 cents of every dollar just to fund these programs and the interest on the debt.

Good to know only certain people need to 'sacrifice' to correct the economic ills that BOTH crappy parties have wrought upon our nation the past 15 years. But hey, as long as the old and poor are guaranteed a cost-increase-free existence, all will be golden in the land of milk and honey!

"Shared sacrifice?" Oh...that's just for the 'rich'.

If he considers that an unbearable personal attack that merits such a vehement response, he's going to have a real tough time of politics. These days it's barely anything BUT talking smack about your opponents.

Like Harry said "I just tell the truth and they think it's hell." Mr. West got his Nazi butt reamed and he doesn't like it.

Wow...what a cry baby. Criticize me and I'm gonna go tell on you? Really? This guy's a kook.

The GOP is always bloviating or saying something outrageous and then whining when they're called on their crap. Grow up dude...people are allowed to disagree with the almighty Tea Party.

How dare she let the country know that he is shafting his constituents. Where does this woman get the gall to expose the fact that West is selling the people he claims to represent down the river? What an evil, evil woman.

Mr. West, you have been called out on your b.s. Quit acting like a baby.

"Schultz is as dumb as a bag of bricks. The dems couldn't have picked a worse person to run the show. She's up their with Pelosi for being the laughing stock of Congress."

All I can add to your comment is that the Dem party just lost A. Weiner (another weiner like Pelosi , Barney Frank, Rangel, and Wasserman-Schultz) and I thought Weiner's departure would help the Dems.............but look who's left?!

Can you imagine giving West an annual or quarterly review as an employee in the private sector? He seems liek teh sort of person HR has to lead out of the building, carrying a box. He is an employee of the people of this country, and I imagine his biannual review will be less than falttering. He has always struck me as intolerant and sensitive to the point of being psychotic, which would explain his completely irrational response to his colleague's comments. He does not understand that this is the nature of his job, and if he can't handle it, get out. Maybe he needs a private sector job for the first time in his adult life to gain a perspective on the implications of what he supports.

Arguing via email is about as constructive as arguing via forum comments, hehe. Email 101, wait 15 minutes before you hit the Send button on that anger induced email you composed. Better yet, you're adults, pick up the phone and talk to each other.

If Cong. West was a Dem. The CBC would be calling Wasserman a racists & defending him. West is 100% correct. She is a despicable vile human being. I am fr S. Florida I know. Good for him for calling her out!! I will give money to his campaign. It seems civility is demanded only when it suits the Dems. There is nothing uncivil about West's comments. Unlike the Dems he did not call her anything that the Dems often call conservative women, eg the c, s, w, or b word. At least West was civil!

Let's see - 18 posts moderated and placed on line since mine from 12:49 - wonder why? All I asked was for those who asked why Floridians keep sending whomever to Congress to understand that they are from south Florida, which is full of "immigrants" (retirees) from the northeast and north-central U.S. who brought their liberal, union-background, socialist, what's-in-it-for-me entitlement attitude with them and significantly changed "local" politics. Thankfully we in the panhandle have been able to overcome them and provide a good governor and a great Senator to represent us.

West, you are a disgrace to your own constituents. You are not doing a good job. The truth hurts. You are selling the people you represent down the river and everyone knows that. You then showed your true color by being a disgrace to your own party and the American people. Your verbiage was disgraceful. Shame on you. I believe you do have an inferiority complex. Go sit down cry baby. By the way suck your thumb while you are sitting. You have no place in congress or around anyone with class.

I wish more Republicans would stand up and fight back against these vile personal attacks by the Democrats. That skank Schultz got what she deserved. Republicans have stood there and smiled while these puke Democrats spout their lies and personal attacks and that has got to stop. Time to stand up and fight back. ABOUT DAMN TIME!!!

Good for her. It is way past time that these Rethugs understand that they are hurting their own constituents, especially in states like Florida where they have so many elderly residents. Seriously, it is time that seniors and other recipients of these services take a stand. Many of these people are middle class and should understand that the Republican party is no longer your friend. You have paid, all of your working life, for these services, now some snot nose Tea Party punks want to cheat you out of the benefits you paid for. My guess is that if all of the people who use these services would go to the polls and vote, the rich Tea Party bullies would get a rude awakening.

Let me get this straight. Obama stole $500 billion to fund Obamacare. No outcry or questioning about the intent or care of seniors fr the Dems or some of the morons here on this post. West, who campaigned to Seniors on fiscal responsiblity & fixing medicare, is trying to make it solvent and suddenly the Dems have a problem & r questioning the West's character on his constituents? If u did not have a problem with Obama & the Dems raiding medicare, why do u have a problem now? Hypocrites!!! Baaa-baaa!

Democrats cannot deal with criticism. When democrats are calling GOP all kinds of names and degrading them, its okay but when the shoe is put on the other foot, they are screaming foul. West is right with what he said and I stand behind him 100%. He should have said worst things about her like what the democrats say about Palin & Bachmann. People who live in glass houses should not throw stones. If you don't like being called names then don't do it to others. West don't back down!!!!! What you said is ok unlike what these dems say about GOP females. Proud of you!!!! Let them see how it feels and I bet they will stop their name calling.

Also, why are there so many kooks attacking West. He hasn't done anything wrong. Learn to agree to disagree without feeling the need to completely destroy the opposition.

Well if she is not a lady and won't be afforded the dignity of being treated like one, might we think that West is not a free thinker and thus not be afforded the dignity of being treated like one?

West is not shafting his consituents. If u r on Medicare none of the proposed legislation to fix it would affect current recipients. Demogoging the issue will lead to it going bankrupt and the checks will stop completely. Then u same fools here would be outraged that something was never done. So let me be the first to point out that the republicans tried and the Dems just kept lying about the issue. When the checks stop u will only have yourselves to blame.
