Obama to meet with Democratic leaders Wednesday

Washington (CNN) - President Barack Obama will meet at 2:50 p.m. Wednesday with Democratic leaders in the House and Senate, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said.

President Obama would agree to a short-term extension of the federal debt ceiling, something he has steadfastly opposed until now, if there is agreement on a significant deficit reduction plan by Democrats and Republicans that needs more time to be passed by Congress, Carney said.

The more I hear about the Gang of 6 proposal...the more I dislike it. STOP CAVING and letting the BIG $ Vultures get their 3% tax cuts / loopholes at the expense of the Middle Class that can barely afford to eat. Shame of these slimy sell-outs.

I agree with former President Clinton, President Obama should invoke the 14th Ammendment, order the Treasury Secretary to float two months worth of bonds under his authority as Chief Executive and dare the Supreme Court to reverse him. This would give the Gang of 6 ample time to do what they need to do.

I wholely reject giving into McConnell's plan to shift the blame / burden for Congressional Spending Authorizations to the President. The only debt ceiling agreement out of Congress that is acceptable is a 1 sentence, clearn bill. The GOP Congress may not go a simple clean bill on July 30 but by August 14th, when they are not getting paid, they'll be singing a different tune.

Mr. President, you need to draw a line in the sand. Step back and look at exactly how much ground you've given up in tilting towards the Republicans. You need to reset things.

The Congress couldn't even bring a case against you unless BOTH the GOP-controlled House AND the Democratic-controlled Senate collectively agreed to take the case to the Supreme Court - which won't happen. Even if it did get to the court, the law is on your side.

Can you imagine the SCOTUS trying to "stay" your actions and throw the national into default? I can't. This is your moment to be large in the history books sir. The Tea Party isn't going to vote for you regardless but this move would energize your base like nothing else. It's win/ win for you and the majority of the citizens. Now is the time to pull the trigger.

As many times as the GOPbags have renegged on him in the last several years, I don't think I would be making this deal. All or nothing, now. They will back out in a heartbeat. Spineless wimps that they are.

Yeah. Well. It's gettin' kinda late, pal. Time to shut this party down, clean up your messes, and go back to work. And by work I mean governing, not this constant campaigning that's been coming from the right since Election Night 2008.

"Democratic leaders"??? Isn't that an oxymoron??? None of them are worthy of any title with "leader" in it, especially Obama.

Now is the time for Democrats to show they can work together and compromise and show the Republican Congressional leaders how our democratic government is suppose to work. Behind closed doors it is going to be "Sit down shut up and listen. This is what we are going to do"

Obama is letting the Republicans off the Hook and will get blamed for the end result which could be Catastrophic for us all.

It is all part of their strategy to destroy his presidency as they have alway said was Job One.

What a joke, Obama will “Weiner" the Democratic leaders in the House and Senate.
We would do better if Obama and all of his appointees would offer their resignations! Debt talks, the latest Obama FAILURE, look at the failures Obama and the Democrats in Congress have for the next president to fix:
    Failure on the economy
    Failure on taxes
    Failure on home foreclosure
    Failure on a budget
Failure on health care, what a disaster Obama care is
Failure on price of gasoline, energy

Watch Obama give the republicans everything they.

SAY GOOD BYE TO SOCIAL SECURITY AND MEDICARE.

SAY HELLO TO LARGER TAX CUT FOR THE WEALTHY AND THE CORPORATIONS.

    SCREWED AGAIN!

Umm... why is he meeting with his own party? They aren't the ones saying 'no' to everything. What's he going to do? Twist their arms to sell out even more? The Republicans haven't given a thing. I think it's time for them to understand that compromise means both sides have to give a little.

  14. Obama must go

Shouldn't Obama meet with everyone? Polls and the last election indicated that a majority of Americans don't like his ideological policies. It's funny that he slammed Bush so much. He has used and pushed Bush policies to their limits, plus installed failing proposals of his own. The only reason that he still has any following is that he is fairly charismatic (and likable). On his own merits, he fails.

Plus, he loves to take credit when it isn't deserved and place blame where he knows it isn't warranted.

Any deal should have Trillions of dollars in cuts THIS YEAR. Not over 5 or 10 years. Let's face it ... the congress isn't going to remember this promise next year or the year after. The cuts must be immediate!!!!!!

I'm with Bill Clinton when it comes to the debt ceiling. If it comes down to the last minute, I'd invoke the 14th Amendment and dare the courts to challenge me on it.

Thank you President Obama for extending the debt ceiling if only for a short while, at least one side (dems) are attempting to reach a solution even if its not the outlined budget plan Obama was looking for. There is still quite a bit of work to be done but is the confict about the 14 trill. Dollar deficit, or who will get THEIR way on capitol hill, republicans or demecrats. Reach an agreement this is tearing our great country apart.
