CNN Poll: Drop in liberal support pushes Obama approval rating down

politicalmugshot

Washington (CNN) – President Barack Obama's approval rating is down to 45 percent, driven in part by growing dissatisfaction on the left with the president's track record in office, according to a new national survey.

A CNN/ORC International Poll also indicates that the Republican "brand" is taking a beating in the minds of Americans.

Read full results (pdf).

The survey's Friday release comes as the Obama administration and top congressional officials continue talks on a potential deal tying roughly $3 trillion in new savings over the next decade to an increase in the nation's debt ceiling. If Congress and the President fail to raise the country's $14.3 trillion limit by August 2, Americans could face rising interest rates, a declining dollar and increasingly jittery financial markets, among other problems.

According to the poll, the president's 45 percent approval rating is down three points from June. Fifty-four percent of people questioned disapprove of how Obama's handling his duties, up six points from last month. His 54 percent disapproval rating ties the all-time high in CNN polling that the president initially reached just before last year's midterm elections.

"But drill down into that number and you'll see signs of a stirring discontent on the left," says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland. "Thirty-eight percent say they disapprove because President Obama has been too liberal, but 13 percent say they disapprove of Obama because he has not been liberal enough - nearly double what it was in May, when the question was last asked, and the first time that number has hit double digits in Obama's presidency."

Looking at that figure another way, roughly one in four Americans who disapprove of the president say they feel that way because he's not been liberal enough.

Obama's approval rating among liberals has dropped to 71 percent, the lowest point in his presidency. And the number of Democrats who want the party to renominate Obama next year, now at 77 percent, is relatively robust by historical standards but is also down a bit since June.

"It's likely that this is a reaction to some of Obama's recent actions, including his willingness to discuss major changes in Social Security and Medicare as part of the debt ceiling negotiations," adds Holland.

Some congressional Democrats appeared to be on the verge of open revolt against their own president Thursday night after hearing some of the details in the $3 trillion plan - a package many of them contend does not do nearly enough to ensure wealthier Americans share in the burden of stemming the tide of Washington's red ink.

Those Democrats are desperately trying to protect some of their party's primary legacies - entitlements such as Social Security and Medicare, programs forged at the height of the New Deal and Great Society.

On the other side of the negotiating table, the poll indicates that GOP is also not faring all that well. Fifty-five percent say they have an unfavorable view of the Republican party, a seven-point increase since March. The Democratic party's favorable rating is not much better, but it has held steady.

And only 37 percent say the policies of the Republican leaders in Congress would move the country in the right direction - a nine-point drop since the start of the year, when the GOP took over control of the House of Representatives.

"Although most Americans say that Obama is not doing enough to cooperate with the GOP, even more say that the Republicans need to cooperate more with the president," says Holland.

The poll was conducted for CNN by ORC International on July 18-20, with 1,009 adult Americans questioned by telephone. The survey's overall sampling error is plus or minus three percentage points.

– CNN Deputy Political Director Paul Steinhauser contributed to this story.

Even the braindead among us can't deny Obama is an abject failure. Trust me, this rating is heading into the 30's very soon as the unemployment rate and economy enter the Obama Depression.

The pros know how to make money and they are not sharing. But we know too and WE ARE SHARING.

Visit the SimpleStockCash site, and go right to the penny' stock page to see what the rich do not want you to know.

This will take you to another level of money making.

Too many people have been listening to the Democratic Congressional members loudly complain about the President wanting to cut entitlements.

First, no entitlements have been cut. Second, the complaints form his own party make the President look like the adult in the room who is willing to compromise. The liberal complaints actually give him leverage against conservatives.

People are getting tired of Obama being spineless when it comes to calling the GOP out. Clinton would have chastised these GOP morons for putting their ideology above the needs of our country. Clinton didn't doubt his stances like Obama. Obama needs to realize that sometime the president of the USA has to kick domestic butt too.

Liberals have realized we elected a center-right Republican and aren't happy about it. The Bush tax cuts were extended, big entitlement cuts are coming (no choice really), and we have record defense spending and a very slow withdrawal timeline, Healthcare was too complicated to understand (Medicare for All is a lot easier), etc.

I don’t approve but I’ll still vote for him. If he grows a spine and smacks down the GOP he may get 70% of the vote. If he knuckles under to the GOP he may not be reelected.

And as I've already explained...this is precisely why we've seen a huge rise in the prevalence of trolls pretending to be liberals on liberal websites, pushing very very hard and insistently that people should be demoralized and not bother to vote in Nov 2012 of Obama. They come out of the woodwork in comment sections under articles about the debt ceiling battle, etc. For example, yesterday, the 'news' media went all sensational with an anonymous, unsubstantiated, unverifiable statement made by some congressional aide saying there was an agreement and it would be all cuts with no revenue increases. That gets followed by both the WH and even Boehner's office denying there is any such agreement. BUT, the article initiates a flood of people you've never seen before on the website bemoaning that Obama has caved, is a weak negotiator and is going to destroy Medicare and SS "because he's always wanted to" yadda yadda ding dong "how could anyone vote for him again...he's a republican in dems' clothing" etc. Morons at places like DailyKos are falling right into the GOP's trap.

I'll give you one guess which party that congressional aide belonged to.

I count myself among those 1 in 4 who disapprove because the President has not been liberal enough. I see stickers on pickup trucks here locally that ask the question, "How's that change thing working for you?" Of course, these are right-wing Obama-haters, who have a different agenda. My answer, though, is that it has not been working that well because he did not effect the change he promised. He caved to the Republicans too much. Of course, a great deal of that can be laid at the feet of the so-called "Blue Dog Democrats" who did not support their president when they had a super-majority and a golden opportunity to get things done. I'm not sure that they're really Democrats, from where I sit. It's good to see the Republicans experiencing that kind of disarray now.

This doesn't matter. Repubs are stupid enough to canabalize themselves if they don't feel an incumbent is conservative enough, but liberals tend to be smarter. There's also no Tea Party equivalent on the left fielding extreme candidates and holding the Democratic party hostage. So liberals may not think Obama is liberal enough but unlike their conservative counterparts, they will still support and vote for their man when then time comes.

I'm not surprised, and can only figure that he will do ever more poorly with his base - this man is headed toward a one-term presidency, because he's making the mistake of taking his base for granted. I won't be voting for him next year - I may not bother voting for the presidency, but whatever I do it won't be to put him back in office.

8 years of economic bloodshed under Bush – TRILLIONS of $$$ bled out of the economy for wars and complete derregulation of the financial sector leading to the worst financial disaster since the great depression – (remember it took 20 years for the indexes to recover to their 1929 levels). And all the simpletons (liberal and conservative) expect a magical turn around, without any changes in behavior (no taxes, no re-regulation).

I really think we liberals need to rethink this. If this man were to lose and the republicans would be back in charge...what would you gain? Today I heard a gay activist saying that Obama needs to be defeated because in essence he didn't do enough. Seriously? How long do you think gay marriage laws would stay in existance with a republican in charge? What about a woman's right to choise? The anti immigration laws, the attacks on union rights? Right now this man is the only adult in the room. He never promised that progressive change would happen overnight. I for one am thankful for the progress we have made and believe the only way more can be accomplished is through a democratic president and congress. Have we not learned our lessons from the election of 2010. I suggest you ask the people of Ohio, Wisconsin, etc. who now have to claw their way back from republican "rule". If you believe that the republicans will fight for middle class America better than Obama and the democratis, then honestly you deserve what happens when they take charge.
Remember it was the dems who balance budgets, get us out of wars and work for the middle class, the elderly and the poor. As evidenced by the state of our republican leadership, this trend continues. . .

I'm not an Obama supporter by ANY stretch, but I kind of feel for the guy. He was put up on a pedestal early on of almost godlike status that no human being can be expected to live up too. I remember during the campaigns how his supporters acted and it got ridiculous. At times, it bordered on neurotic, and was a little scary.

I doubt he wins another term. I heard once that the moment a presidents approval ratings drop below 46, then they are done for. Besides, he did what he was put in office by the insurance companies to do: He was paid off to pad their wallets even more, by making it mandatory that EVERYONE purchase health insurance.

How could any President's approval rating be on the up tick when we have this grand partisan divide that currently exist in Congress. Then you have the majority leader of the Republican party state that he is going to do all he can to make this President serve one term. This by all means is stupid and it does not serve the best interest of the country. Political comprimise benefits all Americans irregardless of the issue.

The man has bent over backwards to work with the GOP. He even said he would take the political hits to get it done. Did Boehner say that or was in the corner to scared of the Tea Bagger extremist group? Did Cantor say the same thing or was he out the door to fast to say anything at all? Did McConnell say he would take the political hits or is he so entrenched with "Not while this president's in office". We need to wake up our Congressmen are spending our tax money faster than you think and they love to blame it on the other guy. I was floored when I started researching how much money Congress spends. I email my Congressmen twice a week just saying something simple as “Don’t spend our tax dollars on pet pork projects, we can’t afford them”. Everyone should be watching their Rep and Sen. and holding them accountable.

"Roughly one in four Americans who disapprove of the president say they feel that way because he's not been liberal enough"
A lot of people see the cause of their problems in the wrong wealth redistribution. Bad news – there is never enough money to make everyone happy even if you confiscate verything the top 5% have.
A better way to look at things is to see our country competing with others where the most efficient most productive wins. This perspective vividly demonstrates the harm of various subsidies, unions, and other unnecessary giveaways.

Liberals believed the Republican demagoguery about Obama being somewhere to the left of Karl Marx and are disappointed that he will give away the whole store to build some sort of consensus. Republicans, for their part, figured Obama out long ago. The goal posts have been moved to the right 372 times since January 2009. Even the more moderate Republicans are enjoying yanking the President to the right.

This liberalism and conservatism are tearing this country apart. It makes us more polorize. It has gone too extream. At this point we need to come to the center, be pragmatic and do things that make common sense that help to rebuild this country. America is in cross-roads in great danger of a dramatic collapse due to this stuborn and ridgid ideological stands taken by both these extreams. I give credit to the President to trying to come to the center at the expense of the support from his side. That is leadership for me. This is the time everyone need to make hard decisions, be ready for shared sacrifice. Not merely to go to the corner and hold grounds protecting ideology. I do not agree with how President handles everything. I criticise him for certain thing he does. But compared to others in Washington, he is trying to make things work even if he has to become unpopular with his base. Now compare that to a republican president like G. Bush ? I feel better he is in the white house compared to anyone else looking to go there.

Once again, who does CNN poll, certainly not our home. But if they did, I would say Obama is being too soft, not putting the total blame for the fiscal mess squarely on the Tea Party. They have hijacked our political system, we need to find out who is behind their organization with piles of cash to buy the White House.

This should not come as a surprise. But what we need to remember is that he represents the WHOLE UNITED STATES.

He does not just represent those that think that caring for those that are less fortunate is so awful and only the wealthy (in $$) should be represented by Congress. Besides, only the $$ has any place at the table if you go by the VOTING RECORDS of those in Congress.

I just wish that people still cared about their neighbor.

"August 2/11 will be armageddon-day if Washington Politicans do not agree to raise the debt-ceiling"
this according to Pres Obamas' own words. The logic of it all, keep spending more and more with
    borrowed money.
The irony of it all is that the very financial istitutions that caused the the world wide financial melt-down
in the first place and were bailed-out by the American taxpayers are now threatening to down-grade

I still support Obama as President since I feel at least he is the adult in the room and is not led by extremist ideas. That said I do see how liberals would be disillusioned with him , as a moderate he makes me more comfortable than what I see coming out of the right wing, I am far more concerned with the ideas in the GOP that would take this country in a wrong and disasterous direction . For a group that talks contituional rights , they seem to only think it applies to them and thier ideas. The right is lbecoming too extreme ,which is not a healthy thing for this country. They are now a party of follow the leader even if he goes off the cliff! Give me a calm cool President Obama any day !

Polls, polls, polls. So sick of the unprecedented Presidential disrespect. Can anyone toss this man a bone. Can you imagine what he could accomplish if there were not so many haters? I don't mean one has to support him on everything, especially if you disagree on policy that is different than his, but jeesh. There is no one and I mean no one, Republican or Democrat that could have fixed everything in 1 1/2 yrs. He should be commended at least for stepping up and trying, period, he's taking the heat everywhere, show some respect for the office if if you don't like him. Everyone talks about his spending when the reality is that he had no other choice than to spend in order to offset a huge financial crisis. Unreal. Republicans will be the end of the middle class if allowed to go forward. Too bad compromise and reaching across the aisle are taken as signs of weakness by some people. I thought we were more evolved than that but I am sadly disappointed.

Democrats need to find someone to contest a primary against Obama. He seems more and more likely to be a one term president. He expects the independents, who are more and more dissatisfied with the direction of the economy and its handling by the President who has at best been on the sidelines looking up at the stars, to vote for him by compromising with the republicans. They would if it were compromising but the President has simply capitulated to the republicans time and again. He may not have lost his base but they won't come out and vote as they did the last time and with the race being so close he is bound to lose. Hillary Clinton who has been superlative in her role since conceding defeat in the primaries should be looked at and persuaded to make a run if possible.

I think Obama is going a great job, based on the what he walked into which was a gigantic mess. Funny tho, when Bush was in power, I believe the debt ceiling was raised 7 times?? Without all this hoopla from reublicans. Now, that Obama has to clean up the mess, no one is willing to give him a break. All obama is trying to do is raise taxes or should I say elimate the loop holes for the rich. If you own a private jet, or make 250 grand a year, personally I believe you can afford to pay a bit more in taxes. One thing is perfectly clear me to... Some liberals feel the President is too accomodating of the GOP and, in particular, the Tea Party interests of the GOP. They question his ability to go for the jugular on behalf of liberal positions. Obama's ability to see, seize on and exploit an opponents weakness, from a negotiations point of view, is suspect.

It is less questioning his "toughness" but rather questioning his niavity. He needs to demonstrate that he will go to the mat for something rather than compromise on EVERYTHING.

I support the President and am typically pleasently surprized at how he out-manuevers his opponents. However, until the end, I am rarely confident in his ability.

President Obama has made a great effort to try and compromise to get things done. However the Dems and libs fought hard to elect a democratic president and it has been anything but............. I can appreciate what he is trying to do, but if he is not willing to stand up for issues that are important to the democratic party and we end up with republican policies anyway then why would dems work hard to support him and to get him re-elected?? Having said that I still don't blame him for the catastophe that this country is facing, but he has to be strong and bold in these times and that does not mean caving to the repubs on every issue for so called "bipartisan" sake. It's not worth it because the repubs never compromise with him!

Another anonymous news story about the right and the left using the "entitlement" word again for programs that have been funded by specific taxation for those who contributed for a specific purpose. How can anyone approve or disapprove of a politician who has spent a lot of time being entertained, vacationing, fund raising, political bickering and in general accomplishing very little for the American people. I would like to see the press anonymous or with actual credit go after the real stories behind the rhetoric. Not just another biased political agenda story, but real unbiased American journalism. These polls are interesting but I don't take very much stock in them. Liberals are either going to vote for Obama or not show up at all the latter is obviously the concern for 2012 but if we choose to remove our current president for ANY of the current GOP candidates it will be a disappointment that we didnt stand behind our president while he does all he can to better the country. I dont think we have to agree with all he or any future president does but our parties are too concerned about ousting the other and their number reflect the growing frustration. Common sense solutions to these issues are out there they just aren't beng given a fair chance because both parties are entrenched in ideology..Independents are watching.....

Come election time, these folks will vote for Obama. So while they have an unfavorable view, they will not go and vote for the other guy. So this is misleading. Once this crisis passes, the numbers will go back up. This is more than typical. I am not happy either, but will I vote for the likes of Romney or another clown from Texas? Never! My vote will go to Obama.

And some people actually wonder why??? He had NO experience what-so-ever when he ran, he hasn't garnered any since he has been in the White House. What makes anybody with an iota of sense think he can run this country? He has plunged us into the biggest deficit in U. S. History and he wants to add to it via the backs of American Taxpayers. If this idiot isn't voted out of office, we will all be standing in bread lines because we will be in the "Greatest Depression," not the Great Depression. So, if any of you vote for him, let me thank you now for additing to our woes that are compliments of this idiot.

While the American people are disapproving of "President" Obama, I hope that they are at least smart enough to see how hard he has to fight to get anything done. I may not agree with everything he does, but, some respect and understanding are due. I read some of the comments on various sites when there is an article on our President and or the First Lady and some of them are beyond racist, very disrespectful and just nasty. Get a grip America, let's start supporting President Obama and if you can't do that then stop being so ugly against the man!!!!!!! Thank you

The president has a tough job. Every decision ticks off half the people much like an official in a tight game. For you liberals that are upset that he doesn't go left far enough, consider the alternative. What do you think will happen if more tea party members are elected. Liberals...you had better wake up. You need to take a look at what's happening across the country and get back in line. You won't be able to ask any Dem to rescue the country in 2016 because we wont have one after the Repugs get through...look at what they did in the 6 years they had the country during the 2000s. Just think about what another 4 years of that bunch could do to the country. Far worst that a few cuts some social programs here and there...that's for sure.

I can't wait to see how 2012 goes. This is our fault. We voted the GOP into the house and and every other part of the government and all we have seen job loss, Medicare plots and union busting. They don't have our best interest at heart. Look around. Every state they control is suffering more in 2011 than in 2010. That's why Wisconsin is having recall elections.
As for the dems, if they weren't such a weak bunch they would killing the GOP. And if the prez wasn't busy trying to make everybody happy the dems and the people wouldn't be turning on him. If he doesn't have the support of the people on the left he has nothing. He shouldnt even be talking about Medicare or SS. He has the ball in his court he's dribbling the clock out. If he fails to be reelected we are toast. With these tea party people in charge we will suffer like Ohio, Wisconsin and Minnesota. The proof is in the pudding.

The shock treatment to handle the long term budget crisis, championed by the Tea Party and led by Paul Ryan will undoubtedly cause misery in the country, if implemented on a crash basis. But we have to accept that the status quo on entitlements cannot continue much longer. The Tea Party has brought a much needed focus on this issue if in an admant and cruel way. Is there no way that the two parties can work out a way together that will adress the issue? Obama ater a long time has jumped into the discussions, which is gratifying. Let's hope that common sense and compassions reins both parties.

Still say that the Republicans are protecting the wealthy in an effort to keep their phony baloney jobs. The middle class is known to support the US economy. That class is shrinking. This problem is not due to Medicare, or any social support. It is the efforts of the Corporations to increase revenue to increase stock options and bonus dollars until the bailout happily protected by the GOP and teabaggers. Taxes are paid through, cigarettes, alcohol, car tax, gas tax, rentals, vacations, phones, and anything you see in the stores and not by a small group of Richies. I know that corporations who are given tax credits are pocketing this money and still outsourcing American work to increase revenue. Yet people blame someone who has taken the job on the worse part of our history. You think anyone else could have an amazing story to tell as president when we were in the biggest recession?

It is a dearth of action that has undermined the Democratic Party. Allowing the GOP to define the political debate and obfuscate the issues without Democratic leaders standing up for themselves has been a major problem for years. The Working Class Americans pay with every hour of work into Social Security and Medicare...it is not an entitlement. These programs are funded outside of taxes. To use them as a tool in deficit reduction is paramount to theft and at the very least tax increases upon the middle and lower tax brackets, who pay for these programs exclusivly. Where is this point of contention in Democratic responses to the GOP onslaught? Equality of the American People is a paramount tenent of our Constitution and Culture, something that we have worked hard to achieve and come closer to over our history. Over the past 30 years the economic warfare conducted against the working class of Americans has reduced the majority of Americans to indentured servents from birth. The Democratic Party needs to defend the welfare of those it's platform define as it's constituants, that is why they are elected. As a former Marine I am very disturbed by the actions of the GOP, and inaction by the Dems's, to protect the citizens of this country. The new millenial silent majority must take back the reigns of our governance before we find ourselves tied to those reigns like surfs existing for the whims of service to our wealthy and corporate lords. God Bless America and it's People who work to make it great.

Looking at that figure another way, roughly one in four Americans who disapprove of the president say they feel that way because he's not been liberal enough. Looking at that figure in no represents Conservatives and Republicans. Your one in four is the left who feels that way. Stating one in four Americans is misleading because you want the people to believe that the Republicans and Conservatives think Obama has not been liberal enough. I think the reality is that this President's policies are failing America. This is sinking in with the American people helped by seeing several countries across the pond in BIG trouble. We clearly cannot continue down the spending path the President chose his first two years in office. He has offered NO solutions for curbing the debt crisis HE has contributed to and his budget was dismissed 96-0 (or so?). His support during the last election cycle has clearly evaporated as has the "hope and change" message. He has lost all credibility. And as intelligent and well spoken as he is, he has lacked leadership and decisiveness.

OK, I hear you, "left liberals." As a strong Obama supporter, I have a hard time with the weaklings who are dissatisfied that not enough has been done to meet our social goals, etc., but I hear you. The problem is that there is nobody who is going to get further along the path than Obama has gotten with the right wing in control of the house. I believe Obama will want to go further toward the goals we had when we elected him, but he is going to have to have the support of congress. Right now he is a big huge target and the liberals who are losing their "hope" are not helping. Just exactly WHO would you support that would get further than Obama? He has, however, enjoyed many perks and vacations as the president, all to the expense of us the taxpayers. I won't vote for him. Who are the American people that usually get invited to participate in these polls? And are real polls actually conducted on the issues or rather made up by the mainstream media to mislead, manipulate and exploit the ignorence, stupidy and complacency of some Americans who don't give a damn about the issues in the first place? So some Americans are disatisfied with the job the president is doing in attempting to reverse eight years of failure by the GOP's previous administration. Well, too bad!

And what would you like to see the president do better to end gridlock in Washington? And which party is actually creating all the gridlock in Washington and stalling progress? Democrats or Republicans? And if you are disatisfied with the way our economy is rebounding from the economic crisis that the GOP has created, then shouldn't the GOP be receiving the blame for their own screw up? And by the way, where are all the jobs the GOP promised the American people prior to the midterm elections?

So you're disatisfied with the president's leadership huh?

Then I guess you're angry over healthcare reform and the fact that 30 million Americans now have access to affordable health insurance. And I guess you're disatissfied that financial reform has reshape the way we do business on Wall Street and establish guidelines to ensure that we don't endure another financial crisis like the one that the GOP is responsible for creating, that is the worst since the Great Depression.

And I presumed that you're disatisfied that our troops are finally coming home to their love ones from the Afghan and Illegitimate Iraqi war that the GOP is responsible for starting. And I presume you're disatisfied that our image around the world as leader of the free and democratic world has restored itself once more because of the trust and respect that president Obama has instilled in our allies and other world leaders.

And O' yes, I presumed that you're angry that president Obama had the balls to send our Navy Seals to kill OBL, mastermind of the worst terrorist attacks on American soil.

Then if you are disatisfied with president Obama's sound and progressive leadership, then vote GOP in 2012. But rest assure you'd still come out on the loosing end when all is said and done.

My liberal brothers and sisters need to get a grip.....People like Sen. Sanders, Olberman, Schultz and Maddow, need to realize that the New Deal, and the Great Society Must be re-tweaked. We don't need to end any of these programs, but an increase in taxes paid into the system, and raising the age to receive the benefits will increase the solvency of the program. The fact is the baby boom generation will begin retiring in the next 10 years. Expenses for these programs will go through the heavens!!! We have to develop a way to pay for these changes..... Lastly, if Obama isn't re-elected, and congress (the House & Senate) is taken over by the GOP, as well as the Presidency, entitlement programs will change dramatically. And the left will be able to do NOTHING about it.

I keep saying .. if someone in the Democratic Party had the cojones to run against Obama in the primary, I think they would win. He's created such much fodder for a true Democrat to run on and blast him. Putting the numbers above in perspective, 29% of Democrats are already looking for a new candidate for their party. That is more than enough to kick off a run. And once they have another choice, Obamas support within the party should drop fast.

  214. here we go again

Mr. Obama is still well like because considering the state of the economy , his approval is actually suppose to be in the 20's, and last month it was reported he made 60 million in quarterly donations the highest ever in a quarter, I'm sure liberals will come around and support the President for re-election. The Republicans canindates only appeals to old school conservatives /Tea-party and have alienated every-one else, IT IS GOING TO BE HARD TO BEAT OBAMA!

side note: Republicans canindates dont pledge your allegiance to hardcore conservatives/TP they are going to vote for you anyway, just like Mr. Obama knows if he agrees with some cuts to raise the debt ceiling liberals are still going to support him for re-election. So Republicans start playing to a bigger audience than just the TP folks the US is changing if you have not notice.

I'd like to make an observation and set the record straight for some of you on the left griping about President Obama.

On health care reform: Public-option and single-payer was doa. A handful of Senate Dems refused to vote for it. So if he had taken your advice and gone for it, we would have absolutely NOTHING now.

He extended the tax cuts only because he got a boatload in exchange (Republicans were holding all these items hostage). He got extended unemployment benefits for almost a year, he got ratification of start ii, he got repeal of dadt and he got health coverage for first-responders. Now again, if he had taken your advice, we would have NONE of that.

He ended Iraq exactly as he said he would. He took the backseat in Libya and is only offering support, which is remarkable in and of itself and is a first-step to not being the world's police any longer.

I can't tell if some liberal whiners are truly as unaware of reality as they sound or if they're actually Republican's pretending to be Dems just to try to make Obama seem bad.

Mr. President! Don't give in to these right wing teabuggers that are crazy old thugs and their call for cuts to S. S. and Medicare. I have paid into S. S. all my life and yes! I'm entitled to the full payment of the funds I have put in!

Obama is a great guy, intelligent, kind, thoughtful, but absolutely no brass and we need a leader that shows a little of that at the required times, like NOW.

Unfortunately, some people, like the current Republican dominated House do not get it and should be told, like children, the facts of life !

It is funny to hear a liberal media group (CNN) say anything negative about the anointed one. He is not just a liberal, he is a socialist looking to re distribute wealth. The problem with that theory is at some point you run out of money to pass around. Our status as a world leader is being handed over to China. Wait till they start to tighten the screws. We need to get our spending in control. The open check book has to stop. Look at Greece- that will be our destiny if the anointed one has his way. Wake up !!

GOP is on the crossroads to decide which way they will move forward. The extremists have taken over the party. We are a democracy and all legislation works with compromise. The attitude on of "my way or no way" will destroy this nation's future and Republican party. The blame for the destruction of this economy will lie 100% at the feet of the GOP right wing. That is a guarantee. They do not wish any tax increase or removing any tax loopholes for the millionaires but want to cut the medicare and medicaid and all the other social programs for the poor while we are expieriencing the worst poverty in our history while millions of poor families are losing their homes, savings, their livilihood and jobs. The seniors will have to sacrifice their benefits. But the rich should continue with the Bush tax cuts and dirty games and loopholes dodging taxes in the tax codes. Where is the common sense?

While suturing a cut on the hand of a 75 year old rancher, who's hand was caught in the gate while working cattle, the doctor struck up a conversation with the old man...Eventually the topic got around to Obama and his role as our president.

The old rancher said, 'Well, ya know, Obama is a 'Post Turtle"..

Not being familiar with the term, the doctor asked him, what a 'post turtle' was.

The old rancher said, 'When you're driving down a country road and you come across a fence post with a turtle balanced on top, that's a 'post turtle'.

The old rancher saw the puzzled look on the doctor's face so he continued to explain.

"You know he didn't get up there by himself, he doesn't belong up there, he doesn't know what to do while he's up there, he's elevated beyond his ability to function, and you just wonder what kind of dumb ass put him up there to begin with."

At last the Democrats have an intelligent, thoroughly professional, articulate, strong, compassionate leader and all we do is gripe that he is not doing enough.

In all my years on this earth and through more than a dozen elections, the various crises this presidency has encountered have been monumental. Through wars of his not choosing, through a false economy he inherited, through runaway oil prices, through rampant fraud and unethical behavior in the banking industry and wall street, and the worst job market in decades, I am still amazed he acts with such decorum and respect of his fellow co-workers that don't deserve not even a smidgen in return.

While I don't agree with everything he has done, I still agree he is our best choice.

For those who are planning to run against him because they THINK they can do so much better. I double dare you!

With the GOP in a mind warp that is baffling and many Americans willing to believe anything they receive through anonymous e-mails, it's no wonder we are in such chaos.

I sympathize for that Florida teacher who has had to make the wrenching decision to leave teaching because she hasn't received a salary increase in 5 years and still earns $38,000 a year! To her representatives in Congress, is this a legacy you feel proud of in Florida by bankrupting education and their educators? I think not!

I sympathize for the many who have lost their jobs to outsourcing and can't find anything close to what they were making before but then it's ok with the GOP because they don't want them to become lazy and live off the fat of unemployment! Yeah right.

Or to the ones who lost their homes through foreclosure because mortgage brokers and banks falsified loan applications or looked the other way and didn't bother to ethically advise those applying for mortgages that they wouldn't be able to afford them once the teaser rate expired in 3 or 5 years? The GOP has no problem with this either.

Or the thousands of students with loans that are in the thousands who can't find a decent job but are now stuck with these loans and will probably have to wait until they are in the 30's to even see the light of day.

Then of course now we have these stealth taxes that more and more Americans are having to pay on their social security benefits once they earn over a "whopping" $34,000 a year because the threshold was not adjusted for inflation? Mind you folks, this happened during the Reagan years but the GOP is silent about this and they will fight tooth and nail to keep it as it is because they don't want their "job creators" to suffer any loss of their obscene wealth?

So before we push President Obama under the bus, why don't you actually read about what your legislators have and have not done for you lately and then kvetch. BTW, find your facts on the government's website and you'll find a dirge of information (accurate and true) about those legislators who speak through one side of their mouth but do something or nothing else.

I am a Democrat and I will vote for President Obama. Why you may ask....he was given a terrible hand and he has tried to work with the GOP. The GOP has tried to block everything from Day One in office. Another reason, I have witness the Tea Party and the GOP....know way will I vote for them. So Democratic Liberals ask yourself, do I want to hand over the white house to the GOP and the Tea Party knowing what they have done in many GOP states? Look closely folks.

I didn't vote for the guy I thought he was full of crap. Yes he is a very good public speaker he says exactly what people want to hear. Then he doesn't do squat. But what can you do he came into office with a pile of crap to fix. It's not all his fault even when he did try to do stuff health reform ect the senate shot it down or the justice system over threw it. We as a people really need to stop voting in the same people. They aren't getting the job done but we keep voting them in. Once again though when you have to vote between a moron and a turd your screwed either way. I don't have the answers to fix the problems but they really do need fixed for the people's sake.

It was High During Election because everyone was talking about change. Little did people know that change ment you will be left with only change in your pocket. No Lair can have a high approval rating unless your Bill Clinton with a good economy. If the economy is good you can lie all you want.
