(CNN) – As Congressional staffs worked through the weekend to try to reach a deal to avoid an unprecedented default, CNN Congressional Producer Ted Barrett forwarded this sighting:
David Krone, chief of staff for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, passed through the Capitol Sunday dressed casually in khakis, a blue button down shirt and loafers without socks. He walked from his office to House Speaker John Boehner's carrying a single piece of paper. When asked if the page contained the "final deal," he laughed lightly and said he is trying to do whatever it takes to get a deal.
After about 20 minutes, Krone emerged from Boehner's office, piece of paper still in hand, but this time munching on a cold slice of cheese pizza while carrying a City Pizza box containing another slice.
Krone said it was a gift from Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell's chief of staff, Sharon Soderstrom, who took pity on the underfed staffer.

Bottom line: if the country defaults ... it will be the Repuiblican Tea party's fault. The Dems gave in on some of their sacred cows. Too bad for they rest of us that the Rep's don't have the intestinal fortitude to put country above party.
Too bad Obama and Harry Reid are not as interested in getting a deal as David Krone is. The Democrats are holding out to the best deal they are going to get. They should take it and smile. The alternative is ugly for everyone. Americans have made up their minds. The spending needs control. Speaker Boehner understands that.
Great, so now the taxpayers are paying to feed the Greedy Old Pig obstructionists?!?
It is time to admit that Republicans will not compromise. Obama should announce to the public what checks will stop going out on August 2, so that people will be prepared. He should also announce that the Bush tax cuts will expire next year for everyone, because Republicans will find out that they cannot renew the Bush tax cuts on their own.
The Republicans are only concerned about protecting the wealthy. Keep those Bush tax cuts and let the working-poor middle and lower class take the hits! Hope the GOP has big losses in 2012!
I know it was meant to be a light moment in such a dark time, but it does contain an element of truth.
If we default, many of the elderly and poor middle class will be eating cold pizza.

This is actually nice to hear. At least staffers are still being civil to each other. Maybe it'll rub off on their bosses.
The GOP has no intention or any compromise. They do not care about America. They want the White House at any cost.
Wasn't it nice that he got a snack (or dinner). I do have to wonder what time this guy is from. I think that it was the end of the 1980's when wearing loafers without socks was in fashion. That might explain some of the dated views the Republicans have currently.
