Palin: Obama's 'fear mongering'

(CNN) - Sarah Palin accused President Obama of "scaring" the American people over the importance of raising the debt ceiling before the August 2 deadline.

"Scaring the American people is exactly what President Obama is doing," Palin said Tuesday night on Fox News. "The president's getting pretty good at this fear mongering and trying to cram down the public's throat this idea of bigger government, more spending."

Although the former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee said she respects House Speak John Boehner's efforts to negotiate with the president, she said there is a larger problem with his strategy.

"The internal problem that he has is reinventing the wheel here in the 11th hour, when we already have Cut, Cap and Balance that passed the House, and we don't need to retreat now and wave a white flag," Palin said.

The Republican-controlled House passed "Cut, Cap, and Balance," a plan that failed to pass the Democratic-controlled Senate last week. The pledge includes cuts and caps in spending and a balanced budget amendment to the constitution. Boehner is now trying to put forward a plan that includes the framework of the pledge in a deal that could become law. Obama is advocating for a "balanced approach" to the crisis that would combine spending cuts and no extension of Bush-era tax cuts for families making more than $250,000 a year.

Palin, who is considering a bid for the White House in 2012, has said raising the debt ceiling is inevitable, but that Republicans "better get something out of it."

"This August 2 deadline is looming, but it's not Armageddon, it's not life-or-death, so Boehner and the Republicans have got to make sure that they've got a good plan in front of those who will be voting on this plan," Palin said.

Somehow, I'm not sure why, but I think taking advice from Palin is probably a bad idea. If Alaska wasn't subsidized by the oil companies, I think Sarah would have had a much more difficult time governing there. And, her grasp of most issues is notoriously weak, at best.

Sarah Pailin accusing anyone of fear mongering is beyond hypocritical and also contrary to what most economic prognosticators have said. It amazes me that after she tried to scare people into believing there were going to be death panels under the health care bill has the nerve to accuse people of fear mongering. I understand the GOP desire to get some cuts as part of this deal so that it doesnt appear that they got nothing in negotiation, but Palin's use of war terms around surrender is just pitiful–I guess she hasn't learned from her words yet. Pathetic.

Even IF it is true that a default can be avoided a lot of people will not get their checks...I would be scared if I was relying on social security right now.

Palin clearly doesn't understand what the debt ceiling is but I suppose when she doesn't get her Alaskan citizen welfare check, she'll have a better idea.

Yeah, and all those others who also talk of dire consequences are in cahoots with Obama...the IMF, the Wall Street journal, Wall Street in general, i.e. every sane person in the world. They are all fear mongering!!!

Fear Mongering is a subject Silly Sarah is definitely an expert on - she's so good at it, i.e., death panels, among a myriad of other 'rantings' she's had over the last 4 years. She's the "queen" of fear mongering, negativity, and divisiveness - along with the entire Republican party, so President Obama is way, way, way down on any list of fear mongerers.

No dear, telling the American Public that the World Financial Markets don't like the uncertainty of what's going on is not fear mongering. Now when you tell the American Public that a defanged Dictator in Iraq will produce a MUSHROOM CLOUD, that's fear mongering

... and Sarah Palin's infamous "Death Panels" weren't scare tactics?

It strikes me that, more than ever, Palin is out of touch with what is happening in the U.S. today.

We need more than sound bites grandma.

Here we go again with catch phrases like "retreat" "reload" from a woman who is making millions off of the back of the same people she is supposedly fighting for. Her quest for money is deceptively and masterfully crafted to look like she is fighting for the common good. I wish people would just open their eyes and see Palin for who she is. Money grabber and Bristol is towing the same path as her mother. It is a shame. Palin hide behind the bible to spew hatred and lies.

And exactly when did Ms. Palin get a degree in economics?

Defaulting on the nation's debt is universally accepted by economists, business leaders, and central bankers as a potentially catostrophic event. Mr. Obama has acted rationally and appropriately in warning the American public about the consequences of a government default. On the other hand, Ms. Palin and her political cadre have behaved as if little or nothing will occur to impact the economy – and, yes, JOBS – if the nation defaults on its debt.

Indeed, the biggest problem in this gridlock is NOT the necessary push and pull of public policy debate, which is natural in the democratic process. Instead, it is the uninformed and, indeed, unstatesmenlike – behavior of Ms. Palin and her Republican colleagues who ignorantly equate raising the debt ceiling with government spending. This is blatantly not the case and it is irresponsible for them to claim otherwise.

Bottom line, the debt limit crisis is rather like like parents arguing with their children about who is responsible for paying a credit card bill that is too high. It is certainly important for the family to resolve issues of living within your means – but failing to pay the credit card bill is simply not an option.

Fear-mongering? Sounds more like realism to me. The President is merely stating the obvious..This country is being hijacked by a band of right-wing extremists who are not the least bit interested in making any deal with Obama, lest he get any credit. The TP is playing the most dangerous game of chicken with America's citizens. Our way of government is becoming more and more archaic and broken. When 80 percent of the public wants taxes raised on Big Business and the Wealthiest 2 percent among us, and a clear minority voice can overrule the voice of the public, something is seriously wrong. We have become a Government of the Rich, by the Rich and for the Rich. It's so out in the open that I conclude you are blind, retarded or both if you don't see it. All Obama does is look more like the Voice of Reason every day, compared to these circus clowns he's fighting. This will be reflected big time on Election Day.

Sarah Palin, please shut up and go away. The only statement that you have ever made worth repeating is " If the GOP dosen't follow the Tea Party, then GOP is done" Well they took your advice, embraced the Tea Party and now, they are DONE.
I hope that the Indpendents are gearing up now because to two major Parties will be, Democrats and Independents. By 2012 the Republicans will be jumping ship. The GOP has imploded, and it couldn't have happened to a more deserving group.

Well she certainly knows all about fear mongering (Death Panels, anyone?)... but once again, Pailn is wrong (shocker). The President has offered spending cuts along with revenue enhancements, the GOP has just been too idealogical to accept the great deal they were offered...

Oh good Lord, did Palin just accuse someone else of fear-mongering? How quickly we forget the horrors of the 2008 campaign and the McCain/Palin ticket and their constant fear-mongering techniques.

She's 110% right. Mr. Hopey-Changey has gone over to the dark side! Mr. Gloom-and-Doom. If everybody won't give him what he wants, the world will end. I just wish this incompetent fear monger would resign and spare us another 1.5 years of his leading-from-behind. I can't believe people actually voted for this clown.

From the CNN article: "Palin, who is considering a bid for the White House in 2012, has said raising the debt ceiling is inevitable, but that Republicans "better get something out of it."

Isn't this what our problem is? Why is it always about the Republicans 'getting something out of it' ? Isn't the real issue what the American public will get out of it? Can't the Republicans do something for the people, without regard to political paybacks ?
