Palin: Obama's 'fear mongering'

(CNN) – Sarah Palin accused President Obama of "scaring" the American people over the importance of raising the debt ceiling before the August 2 deadline.

"Scaring the American people is exactly what President Obama is doing," Palin said Tuesday night on Fox News. "The president's getting pretty good at this fear mongering and trying to cram down the public's throat this idea of bigger government, more spending."

Although the former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee said she respects House Speak John Boehner's efforts to negotiate with the president, she said there is a larger problem with his strategy.

"The internal problem that he has is reinventing the wheel here in the 11th hour, when we already have Cut, Cap and Balance that passed the House, and we don't need to retreat now and wave a white flag," Palin said.

The Republican-controlled House passed "Cut, Cap, and Balance," a plan that failed to pass the Democratic-controlled Senate last week. The pledge includes cuts and caps in spending and a balanced budget amendment to the constitution. Boehner is now trying to put forward a plan that includes the framework of the pledge in a deal that could become law. Obama is advocating for a "balanced approach" to the crisis that would combine spending cuts and no extension of Bush-era tax cuts for families making more than $250,000 a year.

Palin, who is considering a bid for the White House in 2012, has said raising the debt ceiling is inevitable, but that Republicans "better get something out of it."

"This August 2 deadline is looming, but it's not Armageddon, it's not life-or-death, so Boehner and the Republicans have got to make sure that they've got a good plan in front of those who will be voting on this plan," Palin said.

She is making a right statement. The NYT proved that with their story today that there is enough money to allow time to go past Aug 2. She is right on as usual.

Kipper, She did not coin the phrase. The NYT did. She only repeated it. You give her to much credit. Give it to the NYT for printing it first.

Palin would serve herself better if she took aim at the front runners like Romney and Bachmann instead of spending time criticizing Obama. She will have share Tea Party votes with Bachmann and Perry.

I find it interesting that we are trying to fix a problem created by the extension of the Bush-ear tax cuts that the CBO estimated would cause an increase in the national debt by $3.3T. And now we're faced with politicians on both sides of the aisle who are trying to cut nearly the same amount by various methods. If a deal isn't stuck and the national defaults, I propose every state recall all their politicians on the basis that they aren't getting the job done.

The Quitter on Twitter still has trouble with reality, every propsal being made includes SPENDING CUTS unlike her half term as governor which left Alaska with more spending & debt than the beginning and the Wasilla exploded debt directly due to her policies as Mayor. She's also the queen of fear mongering in just about every one of her overpaid speeches. Hey Sarah, don't you have another PAC funded family vacation to plan or did you call it quits on that too?

I spit out my coffee because I laughed so hard when I read the headline....I thought Republicans not only created but OWNED fear mongering...remember death panels? remeber how Bush raised the Threat Level Colors 2 days before the election without cause. Hell even Rdige said he was badgered into raising the threat level. Typical Palin....talking trash without even remotely offering a solution.

This from a woman who gave us "death panels" and told folks "not to retreat but to reload". Why is she still in the public eye? And why would anyone pay any attention to what she has to say. Isn't she just a regular American Citizen just like the rest of us. She holds no public office and has nothing relevant to contribute so why are people still writing articles about her? Please let her go home and raise her children and bounce that wonderful illegitimate grandchild on her knee.

Shut up Sarah. Nobody wants to hear your opinion. You don't matter. You don't have the intellectual power to understand the debt ceiling and nobody thinks you are intelligent enough to run for master of ceremonies at the state fair.

Weapons of mass destruction, death panels, guns at rallies, scary immigrants – come on Ms. Palin. Your group and party have been leading by fear for ages. Raise the level of fear – lower the level of reason. That formula has given us the congress and legislation that we now have.

Funny to hear Death panel Sarah, Blood Libel Sarah talking about fear mongering. Obama has just told the truth about what COULD happen if the debt ceiling is not raised and it just happens that all economists agree with Obama, and they disagree with the Republicans aloof perception that all will be fine if they dont comprimise. The debt ceiling is so far above Palins knowledge level that the former mayor of Smalltown Alaska should stick to reality shows and ghost written fire starters.

""Scaring the American people is exactly what President Obama is doing," Palin said Wednesday night on Fox News."
So much irony in just one sentence, Fox News is Fear Mongering Central.

Was it fear mongering when Reagan and Bush talked about how important it was to raise the debt ceiling, and warned of the dire consequences that would follow if it wasn't raised? Does Palin even realize that Reagan, the icon of the modern Republican Party, raised the debt ceiling 17 times?

Ah, I see, it's only fear-mongering if Obama does it. You betcha!

has sarah palin forgotten her "DEATH PANEL" fear mongering statement that was all false. She knows nothing. she just sits and watches what the other republicans and fox news say and that is what she repeats. on her own she has no brain. Sarah remember you cannot compare yourself to Obama he is above you in every way. You need to expand your brains to even be in his shadow..

She should know about "fear mongering". Wasn't it she who coined the phrase "death panels" last year during the health care debate? Wasn't that fear mongering? BTW – Ms. Palin, MOST economist agree that should the debt ceiling NOT be raised, there could be a financial implosion should our credit rating be dropped. The rating agencies have ALREADY that the U.S. rating could be dropped should it even come near a default. She just continue to show that she has no clue on really governing a nation.

    @ Time for another change

In this case Palin in correct. Obama and the Democrats, in the absence of reason or facts, have resorted to fear. This isn't anything new with Democrats though, so it isn't much of a surprise. The failure of this administration will only be countered with blame and deflection. Soon enough, misguided liberal supporters will claim once again that it's all about race and hate.

You know, Sniffit is right, we should be scared. As far as blame and deflection are concerned, where is the Conservative assumption of responsibility for 3 decades of policies that emphasized cuts, but only encouraged spending? You have blamed Barney Frank and Chris Dodd, but what about Phil Gramm and his bill to remove the rules governing savings and commercial banks? That is what set the stage for the bank meltdown in 2008, not just Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac. You are continuing to operate on a misguided set of assumptions: that cutting taxes and reducing spending balance a budget. If you cut revenues, you don't balance the budget, period. Oh, and as far as the race issue is concerned, when I've been around TP/GOP, I've heard the racist comment flow like water. Can you explain the pictures of the POTUS as an ape or a monkey? The lack of respect for this president is rooted in race and his politics, since you can't nail him on his personal life.

By the way, what is wrong with being afraid of a catastrophic failure of the world economy, or do you endorse the idea of a default as a good thing?

Why is Palin made to post her opinions on this in blogs like the rest of us? She's no one. A walk a way governor, losing VP nominee, and only a mouth that roared. Hell, I have more success stories than that!

No comments from the peanut gallery. She couldn't even live up to her own responsibities as a former governer. She's a Monday morning quarterback with no credibility. Who cares if she has a point? She's stating the obvious.
