Palin returning to Iowa as her film hits TV screens

Washington (CNN) - Sarah Palin will return to Iowa over Labor Day weekend as she continues to stoke speculation about her presidential ambitions.

The former Alaska governor will be the keynote speaker at a tea party rally in the Des Moines suburb of Waukee in early September.

The "Restoring America" event is being organized by The Tea Party of America, an Iowa-based conservative group.

"We don't need a 'fundamental transformation' of America," Palin said in a statement announcing the rally, taking a jab at President Barack Obama. "We need a restoration of all that is good and strong and free. The 2012 election will be a great debate between those two conflicting visions for our country."

The appearance will be Palin's second in Iowa this year.

In late June, she and her husband Todd drew hundreds of supporters to the town of Pella when she attended the premiere of the pro-Palin documentary "The Undefeated."

The timing of the trip seems calculated to maximize Palin's exposure just ahead of her self-imposed deadline for making a decision about the presidential race.

Palin will descend on Iowa - likely generating a frenzy of media coverage - on September 3. That's just two days after "The Undefeated" is made available to 75 million households via On Demand and pay-per-view on Time Warner, DirectTV and The Dish Network.

Palin recently said she plans to make a decision about the joining the Republican race in late August or September.

This is the third time this year that Palin has pegged a high-profile appearance to a holiday weekend.

Palin's bus tour of historical sites along the East Coast launched on Memorial Day weekend and sucked up political news coverage for several days. Her last visit to Iowa took place just before the July 4 weekend.

And her Labor Day appearance in Iowa is all but certain to overshadow other GOP candidates hunting for votes in the leadoff caucus state.

The latest visit was first reported by RealClearPolitics.com.
