(CNN) – New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie checked into a hospital Thursday morning after he had difficulty breathing, the governor's press secretary, Michael Drewniak, said in a statement.
"In line with someone dealing with asthma, he is being given routine tests as a precautionary measure," Drewniak said.
Spokeswoman Maria Comella said Thursday afternoon that Christie is "fully alert and in charge" and that he was expected to leave Somerset Medical Center in the evening.
Comella told reporters that Christie received tests but no formal treatment, and that he would be back to work Friday morning.
She said the governor was able to walk into the emergency room even as he had difficulty breathing.

Sounds like God is sending a message to the fatso, bully, Repo-Con.
Just like with Bachman's headaches, you've got a classic case of pollution-induced medical problems. In this case, asthma. Maybe spend a little more time and money protecting the air we breathe instead of protecting the profits of the companies who line your pockets. Just a suggestion.
All these passionate, pro-recovery comments are wonderful. Maybe Governor Christie can learn something from this. Get well soon and understand that not everything in this world has to be so full of nastiness.
I don't have to agree with your political views but do wish you a speedy recovery!!!!!
Must be a corn dog stuck in his blowhole.
he can slash and butcher new jersey but he cant shed a pound, how ironic
Lucky he can afford health insurance to increase his chances of a speedy recovery.
I don't suppose the trouble breathing has anything to do with the 150 pounds of fat around his midsection.
Boy, lucky for him he's insured.
Hope you are feeling better from all your friends in the police dept, fire department, and school teachers also say get well
he's so fat it took him two days to check into the hospital
I hope he gets well soon. Now that his medical condition is out, I guess he won't be able to run for president.
I guess no one actually lives here in Jersey dealing with Gov. "That's none of your business." Someone who could be impeached doesnt make for a fit president. He's careless.
Hope is an experience that he will learn from, NOT having a health plan could have proven fatal !!!
Well, I am going to be just a little negative as well as wishing him well. The truth of the matter is Gov. Christie is going to have to lose some weight if he has a condition such as asthma and have higher political ambitions. I say this because I have a son who has asthma and when he was heavier his asthma was indeed worse. When he lost weight he could breath better because his lungs didn't have to work as hard.
We think Gov. Christie is doing a fabulous job. He is actuallly doing what the electorate voted him in to do. Someone's got to get the unions and the education fiascos under control. they are the biggest rip offs ever! Why do you think all the industry has left the U.S. anyway? and why do you think after All the billions of dollars poured into the public educational system in this country – our kids still cannot compete with any other schooling in the world? He has been taking that on and doing what all the other Governor's in the States should be doing - since there is no leadership of any kind coming from Washington.
Boy, what a surprise. I never would have seen anything like this coming.
If he wasn’t morbidly obese he’s asthma might be in check. He’s too FAT and out of shape to be in the white house. He’d break the furniture. Put down the cheese burger FAT BOY.
Birds of a feather flock together. It is amazing how no one criticize this lunatic. All I have to say is Evil kills itself. He is just one of many of the evil Republicans who will have to reap what he sow. It is not my wish; however, I predict they will begin to drop like dead flies. After all, they are no better than Grandma or Grandpa, innocent children, veterans, and other indigents.
Get well soon dude, this country needs more problem solvers like you, and not partisan sheep.
May God Bless Bless you.
Nice to have FREE medical care, ain't it? Lucky for YOU that you have it. Too bad you don't think WE deserve it.
Wishing you a "full" but "slow" recovery so you can stay at home. I hate what you are doing to NJ.
Too many cannoli's, Big Mac's and Bohemian beer.
Phffft... another fat Repub having a heart issues. No surprise there.
Perhaps the governor has a weight problem. If he lost some weight, he'd most likely have an easier time breathing. And of course, I'm sure he is against any type of clean air regulations.
Come on people get serious all these get well Gov. ur the best ur country needs you all being sent a few minutes apart i smell BS. Dont think this will help is chances if he runs get real and cnn stop the chain e-mails
