Seniors: I need my Social Security!

New York (CNNMoney) - Don't you dare withhold our Social Security payments!

That's the message senior citizens and the disabled are sending to President Obama and Republican lawmakers. They are making it very clear that they don't want to suffer the fallout of the debt ceiling squabbles in Washington, D.C.

  1. The Day of Financial Reckoning is HERE – The Great Democrat Welfare Society Ends

If seniors don't get their checks it will be because Obama and his Treasury secretary Geitner decided not to send them to you. The government has more than enough money coming in to pay the seniors. But the reality is the seniors will likely be used as pawns by the Democrats to cause the maximum amount of pain and suffering. Instead of prioritizing government spending to MINIMIZE the suffering, they will prioritize it to MAXIMIZE the suffering and then attempt to blame it on the Republicans.

But the fact is the Democrats have failed to even vote on SEVERAL bills passed by the Republican House. They have essentailly demanded the government be shut down.

What happened to the stand-alone Bill passed by the Senate that would withhold Congress' paychecks if a default
    occurred?
Oh, yes, the whiney little House Republicans, ie Sean Duffy, wouldn't be able to pay their bills without their checks.
"For the people"? More like, for myself– to hell with you.

The seniors are a driving force behind the Frankenstein monster that is our current Republican party. Maybe they need to turn off the Fox and learn how to vote in their own best interest (since 65+ years wasn't enough).

  10. The Elephant In The Room

Are seniors really calling Obama about this ??? REALLY? Look, it is the Republican Politicians, not the Democrats, not President Obama that are RESPONSIBLE for this manufactured crisis which very well may DELAY Grannie's Social Security check.

To all those seniors that are now complaining about their checks, I have 1 question for you. Who did you vote for in 2008? Obama or McCain?

Who did you back in the 2010 midterm Congressional elections, The Republican or the Democrat? Did you accept or echo the lies about "death panels" or "tax cuts for job creators"?

Seniors if you voted for the Republican politicians, you have cut your own throat. Let this be a lesson to all. Vote your-self interest, not what talking points you hear from the Republican, swift-boating, political spin masters.

The poster-boy for this was "Joe-The-Plumber" [who was actually an apprentice] who chimed in to the President about potential taxes for people earning oer $250,000 per year; an income he was NO WHERE CLOSE TO. Meanwhile, the President's plan cut taxes of people like Joe. Don't be a "Joe".

Seniors need to earn their own way. I am sick and tired of having to for their failures. They should worked and provided for themselves instead of expecting me to.

    Day of Reckoning

You are an easy target because you rarely have any truth to your posts. When Boehner finally got his panties in order after weeks of doing nothing the Dems were quick to vote and only now can the real work begin finally after the Republicans put something on the table to vote on.One thing is for sure and the debt that has been rung up with Bushes eight years of blank checks and rubber stamping will never go away as long as the Bush tax cuts continue. If Republicans fail to agree to end these enormous gifts there will never be a resolve to the deficit. You can ask any economist of math scholar and they will tell you the country will never get on track with the Bush tax cuts.

  13. I am for generational warfare, actually.

Given the ills brought upon this country by the Baby Boomer generation, I would not think twice about balancing the budget at their expense (translation: simply scrapping Social Security).

It's shameful that this administration uses these scare tactics to make seniors think they won't get their checks. I weep for our country.

Our seniors and all of us are paying into Social Security and Medicare with our payroll taxes. They are not a freebie, we have been paying into them all our working lives. If you like many others have a problem with that then give us back all the money we paid into it over the past 30+ to 40+ years with interest.

    There's an understatement, for sure.

Seniors, even if the have some resources, are forced by taxes, to live on very little. If they increase their income, they pay much higher taxes on SS payments they receive. (In other words, they are taxed, on the benefits they were taxed, to get. Double taxation.)

Most people do not realize how oppressive the tax laws are, on retirement savings. Seniors pay a big price to get tax deferred retirement plans. A really big price.

@John you ignoramus.... seniors did work, they did save, and they did pay their own way...and they also paid FICA, and through Wall Street greed it seems they have paid the way for several greedy others. I'm sitting here laughing, because from my viewpoint of age.... I know your day will come...and you will be whining about that too. You must have lived a miserable orphanage existence.
