Washington (CNN) – It's not likely to be found on any Washington-area menus soon. Congressional Black Caucus chair Emanuel Cleaver blasted the final debt deal brokered between congressional leadership and President Obama on Twitter as a "Satan sandwich" Monday.
"This deal is a sugar-coated Satan sandwich," he said. "If you lift the bun, you will not like what you see."
The four-term Missouri Democrat continued his Twitter diatribe against the deal to raise the amount of money the nation can borrow and make a down payment on the federal deficit saying, "This debt deal is antithetical to everything the great religions of the world teach, which is take care of the poor, aged, vulnerable."
A Satan sandwich is not a tasty deal, Cleaver affirmed during an interview on CNN's "The Situation Room." And it's worse when it's been sprinkled with Potomac River water.
The deal provides for a bi-partisan congressional committee tasked with making long-term fiscal reforms that may include spending cuts as well as tax revenues. If the committee does not come to an agreement by the end of the year, a congressional vote on adding a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution will take place. If the amendment is not passed, massive cuts to defense spending and entitlement programs will be made, hitting key programs for both Democrats and Republicans.
Cleaver was especially irked by this provision, tweeting, "A special 'super Congress' to provide recs on cuts but not increases? Who said what we need in Washington is another committee?"
He's so irked that leading up to the House vote Cleaver was undecided about which way he'd vote and unclear about the road forward in Congress.
"I think we've got to figure out how we continue to govern in an atmosphere like we have here where everybody is nasty to each other and there's no compromise," he said. "We're here in Washington having fact-free debates."
Frustrated with what he views as a lack of any Democratic wins in the deal, Cleaver continued, "Republicans got everything they wanted out of this deal. They got everything they wanted except for the Democratic donkey."
The Satan sandwich may be absent from menus for now, but the not-so-tasty treat lives–on Twitter. It is now today's version of the Bronx Zoo snake with its own Twitter handle, @SatanSandwich, and it's own tweets: "Remember. If you don't pass me, people get hurt. If you do pass me, people get hurt. Hey... #WinWin."

He's right.
It's a stale sandwich that has been rotting for 11 years - it's made up of what is left that the wealthy didn't want after they stole from middle class and poor.
Don't you just love those "Christian Values" the republicans/teabaggers brag so much about?
There sure is alot not to like about Republicans and the Republican party but they still are the only ones who can defeat the Democrats.
All Democrats are just about hate, lies, distortion, selfishness, and dividing up Americans and pinning them against each other. Black Vs. White, Rich Vs. Poor, Urban Vs Country, has their even been one positive contribution to our soceity made by a single Democrat since they enacting the great soceity to counter the Civil Rights movement?
When you vote Democrat you are supporting limited freedom for our country, esp. minorities. Democrats tell every African AMerican they are not allowed to have ideological freedom, their vote doesn't belong to them, forget all the blood shed and lives lost for this right, you don't have a choice, your skin color says you only get to vote Democrat.
It is all divide and conquer, don't fall for it. For all you people who say these nasty things about black people, you are falling into the trap. Your anger is justified for sure but you have the wrong enemy, it is not any American based upon the color of their skin, it is the liberal ideology, the Democrat party is your enemy.
Sorry, that you couldn't continue to just give away the country's money, to anyone with their hand out, but that's life in the big city.
Enjoy your meal Cleaver. How does it taste? As good as Obamacare tasted to us probably.
Well I'm sure that "Satan Sandwich" sure does taste good to the teabagger clan. May they all choke on it!
Sadly, few people will be informed enough to understand how close we came to economic disaster – thanks to the suicidal approach of the House Tea Party puppets and the old fashioned Republicans playing lap dog for the rich. The President knew the US could never recover from the level of collapse we were courting. We no longer have the manufacturing base, the cheap energy, and a world market demanding our goods. We would have become a pitiful group of addicted consumers without a mechanism to feed our demand for more crap. The President saved us and we won't have the brains to either appreciate what happened or to keep the right-wing from doing it again.
BLT. Beelzebub, Lucifer, and The Devil.
Like Scheiße on a shingle? No matter how one cuts it, this sandwich legislation doesn't solve the problem. It just incompetentlyl kicks the can down the road.
Wouldn't a "Satan sandwich" be a sandwich made from Satan? Probably barbecued. Ymmm.
mmmmmm.... a "Satan sandwich". I'll take too!!
A Satan Sandwich is what Joe Walsh makes for his kids...but only the kids he had with his first wife. The kids he has with his second wife get filet mignon and lobster.
Blaming the President for spending $2 trillion in 2 years, while $850 billion of the expenditure went to (Bush Republican) era tax cut alone is share wickedness. Another $850 billion was spent on reviving the the economy from a double deep recession and the republitards can't deny that the money was expended wisely. The auto and finance industry was bailed out, a move that the republitards welcomed. So why hold the president hostage and say he spends too much when the expenditure is in favor of republitards? This is not just Satan Sandwich, it is politics of wickedness and share hatred.
I have to agree....very disappointing!
Amen, Brother Cleaver! Amen!
Oh this bill doesn't take squart from anyone, except college students. If anyting is "Satan" about this is that it does nothing to the US debt and kicks the can down the road, again. Seniors won't feel any pain.
Sounds like Obamacare. What's new?
Bunch of whiners, from both sides,.. and the pathetic media is not helping matters either,.. all they're interested is creating a crisis, enough fodder for the next 24 hour news cycle. Palin is right when she calls them the lame stream media,.. all these talking heads, so much noise , and so very little news reporting...To all the pundits,.. go out and get a real job, instead of playing armchair quarterbacks and cowardly second guessing.. Go Obama 2012
Dems blinked again, Repubs got the backbone and will continue driving this country into the ground
A 'Satan sandwich'? Obviously this guy is a Tea Partier not unlike Ms. Bachmann and must be kicked out of the Dem party.
Obama and the democrats have been played like a fiddle by the republicans. My disappointment in Obama is devastating. When he was elected I thought "finally, we have someone who will stick up for us." I guess I was wrong. There is nothing wrong with compromise and cooperation but it has to come from both sides. If it comes from just one side it's called being a fool. He needed to take charge and put his foot down. Instead he caved. Devastating, just devastating.
I have always voted GOP but no more...this was it. This debacle of the last few months tells me one thing...the GOP does not care one bit about everyday Americans. They care about their own agenda, big business and nothing else. Their "our way or the highway" attitude sickened me...I actually believed in their message. The Tea Party morons have done nothing but cause problems since they arrived. THey are totally ignorant of the way government works, and their "get rid of Obama" rants have made me ill...they don't want to work for the good of the country, only their agenda which is too simplisstic. They got elected by a dumb electorate who must have been watching the Jimmy Stewart movie, Mr Smith Goes to Washington, or the more current movie Dave to think that is how it works in DC. Shame on the GOP...you lost me and my family for good.
Why do we keep electing people that speak so unprofessionally? The other day McCain even said 'bizzaro' and he's one of the more respected politicians.
This deal sets a very dangerous precedent. It shows that any party minority (in this case it was the Tea partiers) can hold the country hostage with its extremist, unrelated demands and get its way. They basically threatened that unless their demands are met they'd rather see America's economy collapse, adn then have the galls to blame others for it. It's like a burglar who holds a gun to your mother's head demanding you give into his demands or he will shoot her, and then claiming with a straight face that it was YOUR fault.
Can you imagine how much outrage would be if say the socialist wing of the democratic party did the same thing? Hold the country hostage for unrelated demands?
This is a very dangerous precedent that will only further encourage extremist politicians to pick up that gun and hold it at the country's head.
