Huntsman won't rule out impeachment

Dover, New Hampshire (CNN) - Former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman again left open the idea that Congress could impeach the president for involving the US in the Libyan conflict without congressional approval.

"Congress should do whatever Congress chooses to do," he said in response to a reporter's question about whether Congress should consider impeachment. "My position in Libya is pretty simple. We shouldn't be there."

His remarks to the press came after an operative from American Bridge, a Democratic research and tracking firm that follows Republican candidates, posted footage of Huntsman making similar comments to a voter at a New Hampshire house party earlier in the week.

The Democratic group went on the attack, saying it plans to paint Huntsman as a candidate desperately seeking approval from reticent conservatives.

Huntsman was appointed by Obama to serve as ambassador to China in 2009. Since entering the race he has sought to distance himself from the administration as a potential rival for the president in 2012.

Like you have any clout to discuss impeaching the President when you nor nobody in your party can even win in 2012.

NATO conducted the operation in Libya. We are part of NATO and have treaties with member nations. In fact, we have relied on NATO to give us international support in matters much more important to us than to the other members. It might take someone knowledgeable in international law to put the whole thing together, but it seems to me that we have been fulfilling treaty obligations. Article 6 of the Constitution says in part, "This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary notwithstanding." So President Obama has been fulfilling his constitutional duties.

  5. Seriously?

Is impeachment really going to help us at a time like this? Lets just waste more time and taxpayer money on a wasteful impeachment process. What a brilliant idea Huntsman. Obama even appointed you to a post and this is how you repay him? Drum up impeachment to placate the neo cons?

I first thought that this Huntsman guy is a profesional, smart and cultured and fit to be president of the US. His recent criticism of President Obama, however, turned me off and now I think that he is just another crookish politician who will say anything just to get the nomination. Disapointing to know that he not very different from the rest of the GOP crooks.

If we impeach tis president for aiding civilians, we must in turn prosecute those who in previous years commited war crimes.

The idea that Obama should be impeached on this Libya is just plain silly. I think that if this is the case, then where is the impeachment for George W. Bush (et al.) for giving wrong information about Iraq among other things. There are no combat troops in Libya and there is minimal military assests being used.

In some ways, I`ve been willing to recognize Huntsman as the GOP`s closest thing to sensible candidate. This last exchange changes that.

Answer the question, sir! Would you support the impeachment of the President over Libya? Really don`t need you to tell me what I already know regarding Congress. Be a man.

I hope the Teapublican party DOESImpeach Obama. The Senate will NEVER convict. Moreover, after that failed attempt, the voting public would re-elect Obama overwelmingly.

    Impeach Obama, I DARE you.

Honestly, do the replican candidates really think the path to victory is by out-kooking their opponents?

Another Redumblican speaking like he knows what he is talking about. I'm sure Huntsman doesn't have a clue what is happening in Libya or the circumstances why we are there............

Huntsman get a job and get a clue "Congress should do whatever Congress chooses to do," Or in the case of the Republicans whatever the Tea Party tells them to do or the Koch Brothers or Grover Norquist or.

I am not a Republican, but I agree with candidate Huntsman. This clueless president and his whole administration are acting like hooligans. They think they can invade any foreign/sovereign country and get away with it. Most politicians lie, however, this president is the "King" of of all liars. To add insult to injury, there is always a flunky in the administration, making exorbitant salaries, willing to defend him.

The latest? Consider the 74,000 or so American workers that will be affected by this administrations lack of action on the funding for the FAA. All, while the "Fund Raiser-in-Chief" goes raking in millions of dollars and partying on the tax payers dime. Of course the president's lap dogs are going to protect him and charge that this is all the fault of the Republicans.

I ask, how is this going to create jobs? It's been almost three years and the jobs that, supposedly, he has created probably cost the American tax payer more than $50,000 each. Unemployed Americans would have been better off receiving that amount directly, with certain conditions, of course.

With this president and his administration, hypocrisy knows no bounds. PLEASE wake up America!!!
