Helping veterans find civilian jobs is focus of new Obama initiative

Washington (CNN) – President Barack Obama outlined a new initiative Friday that aims to help former members of the military find private sector jobs, part of his renewed job creation effort focusing on unemployed veterans.

In front of 300 active service members and their families at the Washington Navy Yard, the president laid out a series of reforms that his administration is pledging will better prepare service members for the civilian work force and encourage employers to hire recent veterans.

As always little to late I will be glad when 2012 gets here and you will not.

    Can anyone answer this question:

    Let me get this straight . . . ...
We're going to be "gifted" with a health care
plan we are forced to purchase and
    fined if we don't,
    Which purportedly covers at least
    ten million more people,
without adding a single new doctor,
but provides for 16,000 new IRS agents,
written by a committee whose chairman
    says he doesn't understand it,
passed by a Congress that didn't read it but
    exempted themselves from it,
and signed by a President who smokes,
with funding administered by a treasury chief who
    didn't pay his taxes,
for which we'll be taxed for four years before any
    benefits take effect,
    by a government which has
already bankrupted Social Security and Medicare,
all to be overseen by a surgeon general
    who is obese,
and financed by a country that's broke!!!!!
    'What the hell could
    possibly go wrong?

More great leadership from a person who doesn't know how to lead.
along with all his czars and DEM buddies.

These people don't realize that this country is not a manufacturing country any more, we are now a sales country, that means buying and selling, we need to look reality in the face and stop believing in something we are not. We cannot afford to stop spending, it's like telling someone to stop breathing, reality we need to spend to get out of unemployment. We need to mane sure the money stay here and circulate that mean modernization of our infrastructure and transportation.

Most of us vets end up getting government contracting jobs when we get out. It was really simple to get hired for me at McDonald Army Health Clinic on Ft. Eustis as a civilian.

Our poor veterans. These people have been screwed by "Dick" Cheney and the neo-cons (who hate our government, yet pushed us into endless war, so they could realize their desire to bankrupt our government).

I am glad to see that one responder to this blog (a veteran) has found work. I know others that haven't, and yet others still that keep getting redeployed.

It is a shame that we were stupid enough to invade Iraq, based on fear, and based on the notion that "all Muslims are the same" (Iran is Shia, Al Quaida are Sunni extremists – before 9/11, Iran and the Taliban almost went to war, Iran and Iraq fought their own war during the 80s, Hello???). (By the way, I am judeo-christian). Maybe it's the birthers (and people like them), maybe it's the witless Southern talk-radio crowd that is pushing their xenophobic stupidity – whatever is the case, our veterans have been screwed. Dick Cheney and Paul Wolfowitz are war criminals!

You know, when the President gets around to taking some vacation this summer I really don`t care to hear from the hater-aide drinkers.

I will remember that the Republican-led Hose had to be embarassed into not BOLTING town on July 4th so that they would produce a simple increase in the debt ceiling.

And I will remember that this same, "do nothing", obstructionist Congress bolted in August for a FIVE WEEK vacation all the while leaving 70,000 FAA-related workers in a legislatively-induced layoff. [And to those yammerin neocons that will say 70,000 is inflated, I say,"exactly how many is an acceptable number to idle"?]

After running on "jobs", instead we see a Congress that wanted vacations, vacations, vacations – - for THEMSELVES.

If Boehner & McConell fancy themselves as equivalent to the President then hold them to the same standard of work ethic as him. Blame them for the 8-month distraction from jobs that was this debt ceiling crisis that was manufactured by the GOP.

True. The is no longer manufacturing giant it once was, and unless something happens overseas to reduce manufacturing the US will never again be the world leader.

Buying and selling. Exactly. The pinnacle of capitalism is where you only product is capital itself. That means no manufacturing, which means no inventories, which means no parts suppliers, which means no workers to deal with, which of course means no jobs, just wealth; if you have it. We are well on our way pure capitalism. I've said it before and I'll say it again. Pure unrestricted capitalism is to economics, as pure communism is to politics.

Democrats have been focused on jobs, and so have Republicans. For the past two years the Democrats have seen every jobs bill filibustered in the Senate, where each died. Like I said, both parties have been focused on jobs bills.

And all along the way, Republicans have been manufacturing distractions one after the other to keep the national conversation away from jobs. Republicans know that people vote more with their emotional hearts than with their rational brains. They have used this to great advantage for decades. Fear. Hate. Now, the Republican Party has turned itself into the focus of the very fear and hate they have being trying to incite.

You have seen the results of special elections this year. Watch Wisconsin next week. Watch the minor races this year in 2011. 2012 will be a Democratic tsunami.

This is what we love and admire about THIS President his ability to multi=task, to regroup, and refocus.
The Teatard GOPers on the other hand, both in and out of Congress and on this site are completely stuck on stupid, unable to even ATTEMPT to fulfill their campaign promise of JOBS JOBS JOBS, but hellbent on critiquing, misinforming, and derailing any progress that has been made under THIS President.
President Obama will get re-elected in 2012, there is absolutely NO doubt about that. Could he have been tougher on our resident domestic terrorirsts (GOP)? Sure. Did we,his support base, wished that he'd taken the statesman gloves off and gone "off the reservation" on these malicious Teatards? Hell yes. But this is why he is President and we're not. And more importantly why NO ONE currently in the running for the GOP will never reach that pinnacle. You guys just can't cut it anymore, you have 'pledged' and lied yourselves out of existence.

Once again our Pressident is trying to boost job creation and hiring. The GOP and tea-party fools will never admit that he is trying to get this done. The fact is that american businesses are not willing to expand hiring and want to keep the unemployment number high so they get a favorable GOP led government to keep their taxes low and turn a blind eye towards any regulations whatsoever. What ever came of the investigation into the "flash crash"? Where are the investigations into hedge funds and commodity market manipulators? I would like to hear the lies spewing out of the right-wingers regarding this.

Thank you Mr. President. Keep on fighting for the citizens of this country.

Hey we've got two ideology going on in congress, we have the dems who want to keep government workers on to stimulate local private businesses so they can hire more folks, and we got the repugs who keep firing government workers so that the government is none existence, but what small businesses going to do when their most trusted and reliable customers are not coming through their doors anymore, that means layoff time. Go ahead Americans chose your pill. Also consider that we are still in a global market competion, and our country is growing in population.

How you folks liking the price of that "one purpose"?

Obama wants to create jobs, Republicans want to cut jobs. Now, why would anyone vote for Republicans? They are destroying this country! Cut cut cut cut cut cut. That's all the Republicans keep saying! Republicans have no idea how to govern!

The President needs to go in a dark room and not been seen for many months. Everytime he opens his mouth, the stock market tanks. Govt, needs to reduce regs and GET THE HELL OUT OF THE WAY!!

These posts are making me sick. How could anyone after nearly 3 years have any faith in Obama and the Economy? What evidence to you provide to think he's even remotely doing the right thing. Pathetic.

Anything Obama "unveils", is simply more wasteful spending........again. That was what the real fight was about.......he wanted to be absolutely certain he had money to spend, and he could spend it, right through election time.
