WASHINGTON (CNN) - President Barack Obama renewed his push Friday for new congressional action on measures to spur job growth, acknowledging that the addition of 117,000 jobs in July will not be enough to lift the sagging economy.
The president called on Congress to extend the payroll tax credit, extend unemployment insurance, and fund new construction jobs when it returns from its summer recess after Labor Day. He insisted there is no contradiction between short-term economic stimulus measures and long-term deficit reduction.
Republicans trash everything they touch from the earth to the economy.
What is happenning in this country, although not surprising given the average IQ, and our propensity for short-term thinking and immediate gratification, is nothing short of embarrassingly shocking nonetheless. Readers from other countries that comment on this site remind us through their posts of their surprise at how we disrespect THIS President, how we work against everything and anything that he tries to do to improve our collective lot while all the time supporting groups (read GOP) that do not have our best interests at heart.
President Obama is thankfully not a quitter. He will continue to earn his paycheck and then some. He is an intelligent man who has surrounded himself with intelligent advisors. He believes in and practices good principles towards his fellow man ( I do not want to refer to them as Christian priniciples as other religions also share them). He will prevail, and be re-elected. My only hope is that he comes to the COMPLETE realization – and perhaps he already has unbeknownst to us – that few out there are willing to help him help the country. He is,however, NOT alone. The God that many of us pray to stands with him and will guide him through this valley and he will emerge victorious. We fear NO evil.
Many millions have accepted lower paying jobs just to try and make ends meet. Do you really think folks who were used to a certain income are actually able to fend on unemployment benefits alone?
No I do not. Certainly there are many people like you and your husband who immediately seriously make an effort to find employment. But as a small manufacturing business owner myself, I know when I am hiring that I am competing with the government for people who still have time left on their unemployment. And then I do know people who intentionally are riding it out and it is annoying to see that they will get a longer ride on the taxpayer's dime.
