Roseanne sets sights on White House

(CNN) – Roseanne Barr for president in 2012?

The comedian made her official presidential announcement that was clearly part publicity stunt and part political farce on "The Tonight Show" Thursday night, drawing inspiration from former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

"That's kind of what got me to thinking that I too should run for president if she can," Barr told host Jay Leno. "I wanted to edge her out because I feel like she's stealing my act anyway."

Barr said Palin, who is flirting with a White House bid, was also her motivation for appearing in a reality show. Her Lifetime show "Roseanne's Nuts," premiered a few weeks ago and follows the former sitcom star running a Hawaiian nut farm.

Barr, a former supporter of President Barack Obama, claimed she is "totally serious" about a bid and said she will run as a candidate from the Green Tea Party. No taxes, the forgiveness of student loans and all debts and the use of vegetables instead of money will be the cornerstones of her campaign, she said.

"I definitely want to be in the debates and if I'm not accepted in the debates then I'm just going to photoshop myself in anyway," Barr said. "All you have to do I figure to be president is show up and give a speech. And I'm really good at speeches."

As for the vetting process, Barr said there's no need because "everybody knows everything about me."

Pat Paulsen obviously retired from throwing his name in there, so I guess Roseanne decide to pick up the banner and run with it.

She would be every bit as good a candidate as any of the current candidates except for Barach Obama and would probably be a great VEEP if Biden wants a rest. She would have that so-called tea-party on the run, guaranteed. e.j. in tacoma, George Bush aleady made the biggest joke out of the Office of the President, not possible to do that so well again.

"... the forgiveness of student loans and all debts"

If that includes the National Debt, then I'm in Rosie!

Too funny ! She can't be any worse than the lot that is running already. In fact, she is probably more " savvy " than most of them. This is just a promotion gimmick because of her new show.

Why all the comments about Palin ?..... Rose needs to run against Obama, can't be any worse than what we've got. She won't even need the telprompter and you will not see her bowing to any foreign leaders. Terriost are on notice, you don't want to mess with this lady. And best of all I hear she doesn't play golf, so she would have more time to focus on real issues like jobs, economy, debt, deficit, etc.

Second tax cuts allow businesses to grow and tax revenue increases because of the growth. Raise taxes and growth stops, unemployment increases and tax revenue falls.

Baa baa... so says the sheep. Try reading a book, or even Wikipedia, then maybe you will get a real education, rather than just Fox News talking points. By your rationale, I guess Paul Krugman also must not understand economics.

@ Mach, I caught an episode of her show the other night, and she has been practicing the anthem. She knows she blew it big time and wanted to fix it. She was asked to sing at a local ballgame, and she practiced and practiced. She was so nervous that she'd suck again. She actually ended up doing a half-decent job, and you could tell her heart was in it and she was really trying. She got a huge round of applause. Is she Barbara Streisand? Hardly. But she did her best and it went over well. I'll toss her a bone for that one.

Obama will have enough trouble getting re-elected, without someone like Barr getting involved.

Nothing new here. Anyone old enough to remember Pat Paulsen. I think he ran two or three times.

Originality has gone the way of good leadership – extinction.

She's doing this just to plug her show, and some of you are cheering her on? Shows an obvious lack of intelligence.

Gloria Borger from last night regarding the FAA issue: "The democrats want to make it easier for employees to unionize and the Republicans are opposed to that."

The TRUTH: Republicans were trying to legislate the overturning of a National Media Board decision and the Dems were opposing it because it was tacked on to the authorization bill, which is and has been the last 20 times routinely passed as a clean bill. In other words, the GOP was saying "pass it, give us our ideological agenda or these people will be without jobs and we'll try to blame you." More hostage taking.

What Borger shoudl have said in order to not be a liar: "Republicans are trying to make it harder for employees to unionize and Democrats are opposing that."

This is not arguable. It was an example of CNN purposefullyl flipping the facts on their head in order to prop up the GOP's corporatist, plutocratic, union-busting positions so that they could pretend that both sides were equally at fault for the FAA employees being furloughed.
