Trump: If I were treasury secretary...

(CNN) - Donald Trump responded Monday to Mike Huckabee's suggestion that he serve as treasury secretary, predicting who would be hurt most by the potential appointment.

"I'll tell you, it would be very painful for China, it would be very painful for OPEC, it would be very painful for many of the countries that are just ripping us off," the real estate mogul said on Fox News.

Former Arkansas Gov. Huckabee, who first made the suggestion last week, reiterated his call Monday morning, saying current Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner has "failed the economy and failed this president."

"The president needs to have him walk the plank, if not for policy reasons, he needs to do it for the political optics," Huckabee said on Fox News. "And bringing Donald Trump in is a real optical game changer."

Geithner announced Sunday he would remain in his post through the 2012 election.

Although Trump seemingly dismissed the suggestion, he showered Huckabee, the former 2008 GOP presidential candidate, with praise.

"I think he would have gotten the nomination personally [in 2012], but you know he had lots of considerations," Trump said. "So, he said that, I'm greatly honored."

Huckabee and Trump decided against bids for the White House earlier this year after public flirtations. Criticism of China and OPEC were oft-heard lines from Trump as he traveled to early presidential voting states mulling a bid.

How can this country get into any worse of a mess than we have with Obama at the helm. Anyone, Trump, Huckabee, my 11 year old daughter could do a better job than the idiot we currently call President.

This is what happens when you don't vote in primaries. The hardcore extremes of both parties ALWAYS vote. This is why we got the teaparty in there. Voting should be mandatory. EVERYONE should vote. That way the nutjobs don't get elected. This is the fault of everybody that didn't vote.

Trump certainly couldn't be any worse than the incompetent idiots we have in there now. At this point I'd settle for Mickey Mouse.

His ego is far too big to take orders from anyone else. Hence, he'd be a lousy secretary and would never to appointed to a cabinet position.

He'd only be good for the position of world dictator - a position with no openings at the present time.

And here we go again, all republicans are good for is saying "NO" and for criticisizing especialy when it comes to President Obama. It has been like this for the POTUS since DAY ONE of his presidency! for 2 1/2 years I have heard nothing but negative garbage coming from the right...and NO NO NO...they do NOT have the country's best interest at heart...only their rich buddies! if America doesn't see this, then it just proves how stupid people in this country ARE! you keep getting distracted by these idiots....our poor president has had it difficult for close to 3 years now and most of this garbage is due to Bush's 8 years of bringing us down, and now the tea party who thinks it's all about THEM. God help us if these keep getting voted in if they do, you have no one to blame but yourself. I saw a poll out that said 82% of americans are not happy with congresS...well YOU IDIOTS VOTED THEM IN! especially these 83 tea partiers that are in office, they gotta go!

Thinking Trump, who has filed bankruptcy many times, has screwed investors out of their money and brags about ripping off people, would be a good Treasury Secretary tells you a lot about how loony Huckabee is ...

He continues to fail in too many businesses (yes, he does have successes). Can you imagine China "quaking in their boots" if he went anywhere in the government! China will complain now, but with him it could become a really serious danger.

Showing the extent of his economic knowledge once again. I think it's safe to lump him in the same crazy train as bachmann and palin.

Lejaune: Sure, he can hurt China, and he can hurt OPEC, but he would have to hurt America first. The only way to hurt China is to devalue the dollar and by doing so, everything will be more expensive.

Well put. If only more Americans were capable of logical, informed thought, we would all be better off (i.e., people wouldn't be suckered into voting for Republicans and against their own self-interest).

Of course Trump doesn't actually say how he would make OPEC and China pay. All talk I guess.

Yah, how's that investigative team doing in Hawaii? And, oh yah, got those financials ready to release yet? If there was a tax on bad hair, we could eliminate our debt on Trump alone. And you know he won't get rid of it, cause it covers the scars from his labotomy.

Hey Think Again – under which chapter of the Bankruptcy Code did Trump file under – 7, 11, or 13? And while you're at it, please explain to the class the differences between them.

Ernie, a big part of the problem is that the repubs have become the "GOD DEPOSITORY" of the US. We need to move the "GOD DEPOSITORY" to the unemploment line. Oops, I forgot, they don't believe in unemploment benefits. Just throw 'em out on the street and forget 'em.

This is why Trump continues to fail: at business, in marriage, with his TV show ... he's long on bluster and nonsense and extremely short on concrete strategies, actions and accomplishments.
