Trump: If I were treasury secretary...

(CNN) - Donald Trump responded Monday to Mike Huckabee's suggestion that he serve as treasury secretary, predicting who would be hurt most by the potential appointment.

"I'll tell you, it would be very painful for China, it would be very painful for OPEC, it would be very painful for many of the countries that are just ripping us off," the real estate mogul said on Fox News.

Former Arkansas Gov. Huckabee, who first made the suggestion last week, reiterated his call Monday morning, saying current Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner has "failed the economy and failed this president."

"The president needs to have him walk the plank, if not for policy reasons, he needs to do it for the political optics," Huckabee said on Fox News. "And bringing Donald Trump in is a real optical game changer."

Geithner announced Sunday he would remain in his post through the 2012 election.

Although Trump seemingly dismissed the suggestion, he showered Huckabee, the former 2008 GOP presidential candidate, with praise.

"I think he would have gotten the nomination personally [in 2012], but you know he had lots of considerations," Trump said. "So, he said that, I'm greatly honored."

Huckabee and Trump decided against bids for the White House earlier this year after public flirtations. Criticism of China and OPEC were oft-heard lines from Trump as he traveled to early presidential voting states mulling a bid.

This Trump is a Total Loon.. His businesses are built on buying materials from China. And he's suggesting that if he were treasury secretary he'd be willing to cut his own throat?... Who's he kidding!... He would never become treasury secretary for this very reason!... Trump does know that China is ripping us off however- he knows it because he and his wife are buying and selling Chinese products via bulk shipments!

prediction number 2: while the republican "party" spends 2012 purifying itself with teabag enemas, obama will be racking up the first 50-state landslide.

First off, Trump is a moron. Actually, I agree with the downgrading of our credit status. It should teach all of us all a lesson, that you cannot start 2 wars on a credit card, that you cannot create a drug plan on a credit card, that you cannot allow Wall Street to convince you to keep thier doors open, on our credit card.........wait back away from the keyboard Dems, you are not going to like this one.......AND YOU CANNOT CONTINUE THE DUMB IDEAS OF THE PAST ADMINISTRATION, on put it on our credit card (Bush Tax Cuts). And to make it so bad, you idiot Republicans would rather be deadbeats and default on the debt that your party contributed to than pay your debts. Your mistruths that cutting spending is the only way out, well yes for the future, but explain to us oh wise Republicans WHERE IS THE MONEY GOING TO COME FROM TO PAY OFF THE DEBT, of course taxes, lot's off taxes.

I hate to say it, but it seems like things couldn't get much worse.

Maybe we should give him a crack at it.

Perhaps it's time to say to all of our senators and representatives, along with the lobbyiests they serve: You're fired!

I see our incompetent, inept, corrupt, union toady president is going to speak to us again. Who will he blame this time Bush, the Republicans, the Tea Party, or the rich (that is libertard speak for anyone who has a job, can pass a drug test, has saved money for retirement). I am sure he will balme all of these rather than the failed ideas of democrat liberals and the Pelosi Congress (remember the recession actually started under their watch when they passed the increase in the minimum wage and wrecked the housing market).

"Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner has "failed the economy and failed this president."

Gomer Huckabee should restrict himself to playing bass with the "Dueling Banjo" guys and stay out of politics. First, Trump is an idiot and second, Geithner is practically running the Treasury Department by himslef because Republican Senators refuse to vote on appointments to that agency.

he would be great at licensnig the US name. That way we can make money on our products and not do any of the work which is how he makes his dough nowadays. We could put Made in the USA on everything even though nothing is made here. If he really cared about financial isolationism he would insist that all products used on his buildings (those that he actually develops instead of stamping his name on them) would have the Proudly Made in the USA label. Im betting that is not the case

Geithner has been horrible for the economy. Most posters on here are also pretty clueless on the economy and what has been the driving force to failure. It all started with Clinton (housing), then Dodd and Frank legislation and has been further attacked by Obama's narrow-minded policies (and spending).

I voted republican in 2010, but wouldn't ever support Donald. Luckily, the republicans have about 6 candidates that would do a much better job than Obama as president.

Is is just me, or does it seems that Harvard has produced some of the worst people for the the health of our economy.

I would not want Trump as Trasury Secretary – that would be scary. But I also realize there is no way Trump or a host of others would do a worse job than is already being done now.
