Rubio raises profile with new political organization

Washington (CNN) - Florida Sen. Marco Rubio is launching a political action committee called "Reclaim America," the latest in a series of steps designed to boost his national profile and tap into his growing star power within the Republican Party.

The goal of the organization, according to a fundraising email that will be sent to potential donors around the country, is to elect "true conservatives…Republicans who will stand up to Obama, instead of with him."

And according to his political advisers, that means potentially taking sides in contested Republican Senate primaries nationwide.

"Marco's one and only goal for Reclaim America is to help build a lasting conservative majority in the Senate," Rubio adviser Todd Harris told CNN. "We're not ruling out getting involved in primaries, but our main focus will be electing Republicans and defeating Democrats in the general election."

Harris said there are no plans to challenge incumbent Republicans.

A website for the committee went live Wednesday with a video featuring Rubio explaining the stakes of the 2012 elections.

Sweeping GOP victories in last year's midterm races gave the party reason to celebrate and a mandate to curb government spending, he says in the video, "but as recent events and the debate in Washington about the debt limit remind us, we haven't come far enough."

"The United States Senate is still in the hands of Democratic leaders who don't fully believe in the American enterprise system and don't take seriously the enormous risks that our national debt places on our country and its future," he says.

Rubio advisers told CNN the legal groundwork for the PAC was patterned after Sen. Jim DeMint's "Senate Conservatives Fund," which took sides in several contested Senate primaries during the 2010 cycle, much to the frustration of Senate GOP leaders.

Unlike the traditional leadership PACs used by most politicians at the federal level, the DeMint and Rubio PACs are able to dole out larger, bundled contributions to Republican candidates. They can also run independent expenditure campaigns in support of a candidate.

Though he denies having ambitions beyond the Senate, Rubio can also use the PAC to finance his own political activity and travel the country introducing himself to voters outside of Florida should he one day embark on a national campaign.

Rubio hints that the PAC might be used to elect a Republican to the White House, vowing to support candidates "who want to come here and serve in the House and the Senate or maybe even in the White House to make a difference for America's future."

Paperwork for the committee was filed last week with the Federal Election Commission.

The PAC will be managed by the team of political consultants and media strategists who advised Rubio during his high-profile Senate campaign last year: Harris, Terry Sullivan, Mallorie Miller and Heath Thompson.

Longtime Rubio confidante Julio Rebull will also be involved.

Why not learn your job and serve the American people and your country, not just the people who put money in your pocket.
    Just another hack politician.

Rubio is not interested in fulfilling his obligations to the people who voted him in to office. It seems his only concern is the next election. With all the problems the country has its obvious he's not concerned about earning his paycheck. Must be nice to draw a paycheck without doing the work.

We can only hope that a person of such high moral character, decency, and love for our nation and all of its people can get into the White House and restore our nation to its once unparalleled glory. Whenever a Dem shows someone such insane hatred that not a single Republican in all of America is capable of duplicating, you know that person is good, as evil is his or her natural enemy.

elect "true conservatives…Republicans who will stand up to Obama, instead of with him." So in other words keep saying no, don't work together with Democrats, keep pushing America over the cliff to keep his rich buddies happy. Just plain force our country to fail. Wow, what a guy. Sad thing is, all the uneducated poor in this country buy into it. One day soon, there will be no middle income people left either. Without us all you supporters of the rich will have nothing left to support because it's the middle class that keeps the rich, rich.

  15. The Greedy Old Pigs have declared class war on US!

"Reclaim America" from what?!? This "country" is rapidly become a wholly-owned subsidiary of giant multinational corporations and the ultrarich psychopaths preying on the poor and middle class. Of course, those same groups are Rubio's cult leaders, so I'm confused what point he's trying to make.

BTW, Rubio, there are a ton of Americans who don't believe in the "free enterprise system" as it is currently corrupted by the psychopathic vampires bleeding the rest of us dry.

Americans want solutions. They understand that in a pluralistic society, solutions require compromise. Americans are tied of partisan war, and do-nothing sound bites. Rubio is trying to launch himself on an outdated paradigm.

"Democratic leaders . . . don't take seriously the enormous risks that our national debt places on our country and its future." I guess Sen. Rubio would know about the seriousness of debt. The debt incurred when he takes out a mortgage, but fails to make payments. Like, foreclosure happens Senator.

When the middle class is extinct, the repubs will be locked in the basement with the rest of us. They will be of no further use to the ultra-rich, so they will be disposed of with the rest of us garbage. They're just to dumb to realize it.
