Bachmann involved in unusual campaign moment

Des Moines, Iowa (CNN) – Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann was at the center of an unusual campaign moment on Friday that involved reporters trying to ask her questions - and the Republican presidential candidate essentially being cocooned by a ring of protectors.

The Bachmann campaign insists they were only trying to keep the congresswoman safe and secure.

At issue: a scene that unfolded after the Republican presidential candidate briefly spoke at the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines.

After talking for about three minutes, Bachmann waded into the crowd filled with adoring supporters.

Moments later, as she tried to exit the area back to a waiting drive cart, Bachmann found herself in the middle of a mob of people: among them many supporters and members of the press including this reporter and CNN anchor Don Lemon.

As both CNN staffers tried to question Bachmann, Lemon said he was pushed by two members of Bachmann’s staff. Lemon also said that Marcus Bachmann, the congresswoman’s husband, pushed him.

“She came out, after speaking for just a couple minutes,” Lemon said. “There were other reporters and cameras there. And I asked her very respectful questions: ‘How do you think you did in the debate last night?’ and ‘How do you think you’re going to end up in the Ames Straw Poll?’ And her two campaign aides started elbowing me.”

Lemon continued: “I told them, asked them not to elbow me. And then her husband Marcus started doing the same thing. And then he elbowed me into the cart. And I said, ‘You just pushed me into the cart.’ And he goes, ‘No, you did it yourself.’

“It was just, I don’t know, why they would choose to do that. We weren’t asking any ‘gotcha’ questions,” Lemon added.

It’s typical for presidential candidates, especially ones as popular as Bachmann, to wind up in a crush of supporters and reporters at campaign events. But Friday’s episode was unusual.

Bachmann Press Secretary Alice Stewart was asked if she, or Marcus Bachmann, pushed Lemon.

Stewart repeated that, “Our number one priority is the safety and protection of Michele Bachmann.”

“It was just too crowded,” Stewart continued. “We were just trying to get her out in order for her to go to other events at the fair and that’s what we were doing.”

Bachmann hopes for a strong showing in Iowa’s all-important Ames Straw Poll on Saturday.

Man that picture is priceless. Is she that stupid to put that thing in her mouth?? What is it some kind of a fried animal appendage? Oh, my that fried butter...what an idiot!!
And yes, ANYONE who eats fried butter on a stick like a corn dog (almost as bad) is an idiot!

I'll bet Marcus is looking at that thing with those "take me I'm yours" eyes! hahahahaha it's just so hilarious what these GOP clowns will do to prove their (lack of) independence.

Come on, Bachmann, you don't need to be protected from reporters. You are running for the top job, and you are not Palin. At least we hope not.

Too bad the CNN reporter didn't realize that to Michele Bachmann ANY question is a "gotcha" question.

Wether or not she's your candidate, CNN and the left wing media need to stop this "Smear Campaign" on this woman.

That OK because she don't know what she doing anyway. First she say that she wouldn't rise the dept ceiling at all. And If that would had happen just think how bad the down grade would have been than. Now she saying If she was President she would would have Congress to come back from vacation and get are AAA rating back. What does Michele Bachmann can't have It both way. If she and her TEA Party Member would have voted yes on the 4 Trillions dollars deal that John Boehner and President Obama was working On there wouldn't have been a down grade at all. So she can blame her self and the rest of the Tea Party and most of the Republican for the down grade.

It could have nothing to do with the questions asked, but by who asked it. Maybe they don't like Don because of his orientation.

CNN can ask a question but they cannot demand an answer but physically bullying the cadidate as Brian Ross did. Team Obama member Don Lenon should have been arrested for assault.

Well, it's Lemon's own fault for being so gangsta. It's not that Lemon did or didn't ask an "gotcha" questions; it's that he asked questions at all.

This is beyond disgusting. First they shove ABC's Brian Ross, now CNN's Don Lemon, and apparently whoever else
got in the Queen's way (I mean her, not him). Protect her from what? Serious questions?
So those of you who keep thinking this woman is Presidential, did you actually listen to her during the debate?
    1. Her accomplishments included her support for the Freedom of Light Bulb Choice Act?????????????
    2. Her explanation of earlier comments regarding "submission" to her husband was really just respect????
Then, they ALL raised their little hands saying "No" to the question "would you accept a 10 for 1 deal on the
budget plan. Ten being spending CUTS, and one being revenue increases.
Their Country is not America and their President is Grover Norquist. So, go ahead, stick your heads in the
sand, deny your hate for President Obama, and run for cover if any of these jokesters win. You will be
kicked to the curb just like the rest of us.

What do you expect from people that think they are always right everyone else is wrong.... I m sure her husbands hate for gay people didn't help matter's . and funny how News didn't carry much about this event. Good thing is that God will judge the Bachmann's in the end cause the news and tea party seem to see nothing wrong with this hate of fellow man.

So she wants it both ways. Listen to me but don't bother me. Can you imagine her trying that game sitting across from Putin! He will eat her up and spit her out! Maybe she was just "submitting" to her husband and following orders to only talk when told.

I guess Bachmann didn't want to continue to answer questions about being submissive! I'm sure she knows what type of magazines she read.

She is a blatant liar and as the lies pile up and the migraines get worse she and her gang of air heads will be her undoing. What was an so called Anchor man doing real journalist work for anyway? Don stay at CNN head quarters and leave the real work for the pros.

Brian Ross of ABC tried to physically invade Bachmann's space like Lennon. That kind of physically bullying by hostile reporters should be called out, whether it is done by ABC or CNN.

There is a videotape of the incident that clearly shows CNN's Lennon trying to physically approach Bachmann when his demand for an answer was ignored.

The one thing I must say is were would we be if she was in the White House, dead. Why if you are not one of the 3%:(super rich)
Then the Republicans/tea party do not see you.let see who got us into Afghanistan and Iraq;(without paying for them:Bush ,Cheney and the me understand were the tea party (GOP without their hood).
When they sold the U.S. Jobs, money down the river's rich with the GOP/tea people need no help as long as they control these groups. This why they. Need the they can put the poor, middle (what's left of it).
People on food stamp,S/S,free lunches & kids who just want to go to schools then they can think for themselves.

Can I ask why you didn't just wait until there was more of a safer setting to do so. Stop your whining Don...can CNN not afford to pay for a real reporter or do you only hire whiney cry babies now???

Oh Don...You are a reporter for one of the biggest "news" organizations there is ...Where is the proof. Video or witnesses would really be nice..I don't believe a word that comes out of any one that works for your networks mouth.Except Anderson Cooper.Because he is fair and balanced...And keeps them honest something you are unable to do..
