All shook up: Bachmann flubs Elvis birthday

(CNN)-Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann stepped all over Elvis Presley's blue suede shoes while stumping Tuesday, when she mistakenly wished "The King" a "Happy Birthday."

August 16 actually marks the 34th anniversary of Presley's death.

"Before we get started, let's all say 'Happy Birthday' to Elvis Presley today," Bachmann greeted event attendees at a "Join Team Bachmann" rally in Spartanburg, SC.

"We played you a little bit of Promised Land when we pulled up. You can't do better than Elvis Presley and we thought we would celebrate his birthday as we get started celebrating taking our country back to work."

But Presley's birthday is in January, so the tea party darling's well wishes are eight months too late.

Christians listen to Elvis? I didn't think he was their cup of tea.

It's ok. We know she is going to double-down on her mistakes like all good republicans.

It was his birthday because he was born to Jesus when he died. Right republicans?

WOW. The left REALLLLYYYYYYYY does not like strong, independant conservative woman. They attacked Palin beyond belief and now they focus on Bachmann. I mean look at half your comments. It is pathetic and ridicluous.

This woman has 10 times the exeprience as Obama and is highly intelligent. Try looking at her record and resume.

But don't let that get in your way, it's a conservative woman, so paint her is ignorant and stupid.

Truly pathetic is the left. Also very telling how scared they are.
Truth be told, it is not just Obama who is going to get slaughtered in the 2012 elections. The House will stay with the republicans and seats will be gained by TRUE conservatives and the Senate will POSSIBLY turn to the republicans, at the very least it will be much closer to 50-50

"The left scorns her because they fear her."

Failure to take a rabid animal seriously generally results in injury.

Harry Truman, on his whistle stop tours, would sometimes say he was in a town other than the one where his train was stopped. Still, he managed to conclude World War II, rid himself of a "do nothing" Republican Congress and get re-elected when the polls said he was going to lose. In a hectic town to town schedule, mispeaking about something or even lots of somethings is almost inevitable. There is no relationship between that inevitable human fraility and being a good President.

Lets face it, both parties stink. We have idiots in both parties. I find it funny to see how many liberals are obsessed with the Tea-party. Last election still stings? Wake me up when there is party which will end the three wars we currently have going. When we stop funneling two billion a year to countries like corrupt Pakistan. What happened to border security? Raising taxes on the rich is fine with me.

Oh, Geez....now the GOP will be requiring its members to sign another pledge...the "I Love Elvis Pledge," and if they don't, they won't have a future with the party.

Words cannot describe how depressing it is to know that Michele Bachmann has any supporters at all. Regardless of the fact that she doesn't know elvis' birthday (i can forgive her for that), everything she says makes me cringe and yet there's people in Iowa right now foaming at the mouth to hear her talk. Sooooo depressing ;[

How disgusting is it that she can't even admit when she made a BLATANT mistake? You can't trust someone who can't admit when they've made such a minor (by comparisson) mistake.

The only thing sadder than Bachmann are the people that support her. I thought it was theoretically impossible for any Repub to be denser than Palin, but Bachmann proves that wrong.

Seriously, she forgot Elvis' birthday, who gives a rip. I am the last person to defend crazy eyes, I loathe her social conservatism and her blatant disregard for facts, but it's Elvis, nothing of any consequential importance, seriously.

Obama has had plenty of idiotic statements.... Anyone remember the medal of honor debacle?? In fact id say that he has made more dumb statements than Bachmann, yet his intelligence is never questioned

When is Bachman right about anything?!?!??! I am sure she will make sure to justify why she wished him a happy birthday – "It is his birthday according to the Chinese Calendar. He was born in the year of the monkey and this is the year of the monkey". Unbelievable!!!!

Oh right and she always insists she is right even though she rarely is too. She is not presidential material with her barely double digit IQ

Don't have a problem with a strong woman in politics....do have a problem that she doesn't have a clue or just likes to distort basic history geometry annd math. As far as her experience and accomplishments.....what??? A light bulb bill that merely wasted time and how to get subsidies to live on at home.....whoopeee!!!!

OK, I get that the U.S. really wants to focus on "firsts" in the White House. First black, first woman, etc. But, PLEASE, can we have someone who has professional job related experience, proven ability to accomplish a task, and for god's sakes – an accurate knowledge of history. If you're going to be a rock star and "location friendly", spend your bus time between stops reading up. Cutesy only goes so far. At some point a POTUS has to deal with foreign diplomats and they will be offended by lack of information.
Bachmann has one verbal out left. If she doesn't know anything about any state containing the Continental Divide (a generous area), she should save herself the embarrassment of coming over here and botching it.
