(CNN)-Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann stepped all over Elvis Presley's blue suede shoes while stumping Tuesday, when she mistakenly wished "The King" a "Happy Birthday."
August 16 actually marks the 34th anniversary of Presley's death.
"Before we get started, let's all say 'Happy Birthday' to Elvis Presley today," Bachmann greeted event attendees at a "Join Team Bachmann" rally in Spartanburg, SC.
"We played you a little bit of Promised Land when we pulled up. You can't do better than Elvis Presley and we thought we would celebrate his birthday as we get started celebrating taking our country back to work."
But Presley's birthday is in January, so the tea party darling's well wishes are eight months too late.

Who cares if Michelle Bachman didn't Elvis' birthday, most of the reporters who were following Michelle Bachman weren't even born when Elvis died. I honestly find it hillarious how many people haven't actually ever heard her speak, or have learned ANYTHING about her (or really any other candidate from either side) other than what John Stewart and other late-night sound bite experts propagate. While I haven't made any decision to support her or any other candidate, I at least want to hear what she says about items which are POLITICALLY RELEVANT to know for myself, rather than focusing solely on a flubbed fact about something so politically IRRELEVANT. Elvis's b-day vs anniversary of his death. So inconsequential, yet, its blood in the water for the foaming-at-the-mouth fact-checkers out there.

Bachmann wanted to make gratuitous use of Elvis' stardom and blew it. Poor Elvis isn't around to defend himself from people using his name and songs for political gain.
I’m still trying to figure out why we celebrate the day someone (we liked) died. When I heard Elvis was being celebrated, my first thought was that it was his birthday.

I am NOT a Bachmann fan.....AT ALL, but is this really a big deal? She clearly needs to have better fact checking but who really cares if it's Elvis's birthday or death day. Is this really how we gauge the capability of a candidate?

I am frankly dumbfounded that anyone thinks Michelle is a viable candidate for ANY office. She has done nothing of any value in her current job. Anyone with any brains would at least hire a fact checker to help keep dates and facts straight, once they'd made a few goofs. She doesn't even have the brains to do that.
