All shook up: Bachmann flubs Elvis birthday

(CNN)-Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann stepped all over Elvis Presley's blue suede shoes while stumping Tuesday, when she mistakenly wished "The King" a "Happy Birthday."

August 16 actually marks the 34th anniversary of Presley's death.

"Before we get started, let's all say 'Happy Birthday' to Elvis Presley today," Bachmann greeted event attendees at a "Join Team Bachmann" rally in Spartanburg, SC.

"We played you a little bit of Promised Land when we pulled up. You can't do better than Elvis Presley and we thought we would celebrate his birthday as we get started celebrating taking our country back to work."

But Presley's birthday is in January, so the tea party darling's well wishes are eight months too late.

If these mistakes were the only issue, I'd vote for her.

Dan J states: " Look, I don't like the lady and think she would be an awful President. But seriously this is news? I'd love to see the attack ads stating that she's unqualified because she didn't know Elvis's birthday. "

My response: Hey, she brought up the "birthday", not ME or any of us!! So, she will be criticized as she should.... She is open game...

Yet another brilliant disaster from the woman who wants to be president. She's a nightmare and takes worse pictures than Nancy Pelosi...................smoke and mirrors, doll, just smoke and mirrors (like you political agenda).

She will probably come out with a statement today on why she wasn't wrong. She will claim she meant the day Elvis was born into the great Kingdom of heaven. Poor Botchman, once again a victim of "gotcha" journalism and that pesky little thing called the facts.

It's amazing how a smiley talking head like this won the straw poll in Iowa...doesn't say much for people there either.

You see by wishing somebody a Happy Birthday on the anniversary of their death really speaks of.....respect.

Here is another from our gaffahlic VP Mr. Biden...."Look, John's last-minute economic plan does nothing to tackle the number-one job facing the middle class, and it happens to be, as Barack says, a three-letter word: jobs. J-O-B-S, jobs." –Joe Biden, Athens, Ohio, Oct. 15, 2008. And to think one of the faces of The Democratic party (Biden) is over in China trying to iron out our differences. Geez! I think I'll start building a fallout shelter!

Only thing funnier than her plethora of gaffes and/or lies are the trolls trying to defend her. She's just not an intellectual person.

and now the nitwit tries to spin herself out of this latest gaffe by poking at Obama and the use of teleprompters (like NO republican EVER used one) and claimed "A Bachmann presidency would never involve a teleprompter." Well dummy, we've already seen how clueless you sound when you ad-lib, I can't wait to hear you butcher every fact (just like you do now) when standing in front of an audience not using a teleprompter

I say give the liberals equal time on CNN! "Stand up, Chuck, let 'em see ya." –-Joe Biden, to Missouri state Sen. Chuck Graham, who is in a wheelchair, Columbia, Missouri, Sept. 12, 2008.

Everytime this woman opens her mouth her out comes something unbelievable than before! Instead of someone telling her that she has a better chance remaining a Senator from Minnesota than being President she opens her mouth time and time again to prove that she is simply a bafoon trying to hope that her ineptness will get her to the White House? God help us if this woman is ever elected President.

I find it impossible to view this woman as anything close to genuine. Each time I see her speak, it appears as though she presents her positions with the sincere hope of fooling everyone that watches her and then believes that she did fool them...all the time smiling like a stand up performer.

there has been numerous events on the news already of how this lady just like palin twist and changes facts of history and current events. I dont understand how she was so successful in Iowa. i guess it is becoming the dumbing of America. if she cant handle simple down to earth history how could she handle the presidency COMMON PEOPLE SHE IS NOT PRESIDENTIABLE

News flash: Bachmann doesn't know anymore about economics and the Constitution than she knows about Elvis - and neither do most Tea Party loud mouths. It may be humorous when Backmann makes a fool of herself by displaying her ignorance of petty things like Elvis' birthday, but it will be a disaster if this idiot becomes president. As president, her ignorance would have real consequences - as we saw when George Bush became the commander 'n chief.

Juast another example why she and palin could both play the scarecrow in the wizard of Oz, they both sing so well the song "If I only had a brain." And look at the picture for this article and people complained about the Newsweek cover?

I'm live in Memphis- Elvis' death has been an annual event since he died- it amazes me that after all this time people from all over the world ( Iowa too) still come here to pay tribute to him. We actually had Elvis impersonators' from Germany. The woman is an idiot!

I don't fault her for not knowing Elvis' birthday (I sure don't know it), but if she planned on opening up with that "fact," isn't that really easy to look up and verify? It doesn't show stupidity on her part, it shows ignorance and laziness.
