Cain says Obama impeachment would be 'a great thing'

(CNN) – Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain said it would be "great" to impeach the president, but that the Democratic controlled Senate would prevent such action.

On a conference call with bloggers Tuesday night, the former Godfather's Pizza CEO called the health care law and the Obama administration's stance over the Defense of Marriage Act impeachable offenses.

The news was first reported by POLITICO and later confirmed to CNN by the Cain campaign.

"There are a number of things where a case could be made in order to impeach him, but because Republicans do not control the United States Senate, they would never allow it to get off the ground," Cain said on the call. "The president is supposed to uphold the laws of this nation … and to tell the Department of Justice not to uphold the Defense of Marriage Act is a breach of his oath."

Statements like this irritate me! You may not like what is happening but these are laws and decisions that have been made by the entire congress and legally voted on by congress. By the way most of congress are lawyers. Just because you couldn't come up with a rational argument to persuade the other side that you were right and not to approve them does NOT mean that there is ANY case for impeachment. It means that you couldn't make your case or your wrong! It also means that you have no understanding of the foundations of our democracy or Americas laws of impeachment.

Wow. Impeach a President for not upholding and defending discrimination, and for a flawed health care bill. This dude is a hypocrite. The Republicans, who won't own up to backing Dubya and his extremely flawed policies, would never had let us impeach their President who lied about WMD, invaded a country, and plunged our nation into a nearly 10 year war in the Middle East which helped destroy our economy and kill many of our brave Service men and women. Not to mention the tax cuts for the super rich, placing the financial security of the nation on the backs of the Middle Class who've crumpled under the national debt. Anyone else thinking the 2012 GOP Hopefuls look more and more like a cast of cirrus clowns?

What a freak! If Republicans struggle with having a mixed race President, what does this radical think he can accomplish being black and with being totally out of touch with reality. Go back to making and delivering pizzas.

Obama should not be impeached. Impeachment is for a President that broke the law (Bush.Cheney) and did something so dispicable that the majority of the people of the country feel he needs to go. Obama should be RECALLED! He misrepresented himself as a Liberal/Progressive. He is a moderate to right leaning republican period. Every action besides helping the gays to repeal dont as dont tell has been right leaning republican values. He was put into office by 70% of the country (liberals and independents) and then proceeded to govern for the 30% that hate his guts and continue to spit in his face regardless of the fact that he gives them more than they ask for of whatever they want. I am sorry this guy does not represent the people of the USA. He represents a minority of malcontents that want to destroy our government (tea party and fake libertarians) who don't believe in government at all. They represent the rich and the racists in this country and if he isn't careful they will lynch him just before he can say thank you master may i have another.

SEriously, when did people in this country get so stupid? It's as if the collective IQ of everyone in politics dropped overnight. His statement is so ridiculous there is really nothing to say...

Mr. Cain is probably speaking out of convenience, but let's be clear: The US Senate does not have the authority to impeach – or to stop impeachment. That power resides solely with the US House of Representatives. The Senate has the power to try all impeachments. If Mr. Cain wishes to ask his Republican colleagues (he is making this partisan, not me) to push for impeachment of the President, then he should do so.

I fail to see, however, how the healthcare law or Obama's stance on DoMA are "Treason, Bribery, or other High Crimes and Misdemeanors."

IDK know if not upholiding DOM is an impeachable breach of oath or not (certainly past Republicans Presidents have directed their DOJs on enforcement as they see fit), but Im certain that Obamacare like it or not was passed by majority votes in both houses, clearly not an impeachable offense. Not sure where Herman is going on this one other than he hates the legislation and cant really tell us why. I am forced to conclude that he thinks moderate swing voters would really get behind an impeachment proceeding during an election year. Why else would he talking such craziness? Im convinced that while most of the other Repub candidates are thinking the same thing they are at the same time hoping Cain will put a lid on impeachment talk.

This wing nut is living in another universe, where it's axiomatic that you can't fix stupid. How about a Cain/Bachmann ticket so that we can get a full airing of these extremists' views??

Cain is an idiot. Passing a law (health insurance regulation) is a "high crime or misdemeanor?" Being opposed to a law that has no effect (DOMA) is a "high crime or misdemeanor?"

Go back to hustling bad and overpriced pizza, Mr. Cain.

Mr. Cain is way off base here. Just because he disagrees with the president is not a reason to impeach. If we did that every time one candidate who is trying to make a name for himself requested impeachment we would not have an elected president. Instead, we would have a string of presidents because no one can be all things to all people. Mr. Cain, if I did not like your pizza I would not have the opportunity to impeach you as president of the company.

Mr. Cain needs to bolster his campaign in another way. Let's get over the politics and get into the issues.

I do not see how the Health Care Act or granting persons the right to pursue happiness in their own lives can be considered "Impeachable Offenses". Perchance this is but another attempt by the Tea Baggers to inject their own "morality" on the rest of the country that may not see things through the same Rose Coloroed glasses?

So Mr Cain, pushing through legislation to increase access to health care for millions of Americans and pushing for euality for ALL Americans giving anyone the right to marry are impeachable offences??

    Really??

Becase they sound more like the principles our country was founded on.

when the DOMA goes against the constitution, which states equality for all, then Cain would be committing an "impeachable offense" for his stance of basically telling sections of our population they are not equal under the constitution.
why is this man getting time for this? idiot.
