Poll: New low for Obama in state he won big in '08

(CNN) - Call it a sign of the times for President Barack Obama.

Only 44 percent of New Jersey voters approve of the job the president's doing in the White House, according to a new Quinnipiac University poll of Garden State voters. That's the lowest score for Obama in Quinnipiac polling in a state that he won by 15 percentage points over Sen. John McCain in the 2008 presidential election.

The survey indicates that 52 percent disapprove of how the president's handling his duties. That's a six percent increase since June when 46 percent disapproved of the job Obama was doing in office while 50 percent of those questioned approved.

According to the poll, Republicans overwhelmingly give the president a thumbs down, as do independent voters by a 57-39 percent margin. Seventy-seven percent of Democrats say they approve of the job Obama's doing in the White House.

The Quinnipiac poll comes as the president's approval rating among all Americans has slipped below 40 percent twice in the past four days in the Gallup Daily Tracking poll.

"Keep in mind that a 52 percent disapproval rating doesn't mean that 52 percent of New Jersey voters would choose the GOP candidate over President Obama if the election were held today. National polls show that nearly three in ten people who disapprove of Obama feel that way because he has not been liberal enough," says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland. "Those disaffected liberals won't go Republican in 2012 - but they might just stay at home. That's the hidden peril for Obama of a high disapproval rating in a state like New Jersey."

The Quinnipiac University poll was conducted August 9-15, with 1,624 registered voters in New Jersey questioned by telephone. The survey's overall sampling error is plus or minus 2.4 percentage points.

There is a significant segment of the population who would vote for Obama next November even if he ate live babies on TV every day during the interim, and a lot of those people probably live in New Jersey.

As one of those disaffected liberals, I understand that staying home on election day will be a vote for the destruction of our country by the radical right. Not only will I not stay home on election day but I will work hard to get Obama re-elected. Even though I'm not happy with his performance, any Republican would be far worse. If you can't find someone to vote for, find somebody to vote against.

Disapprove of how he's handling his job does not mean they would not vote for him. Voters think that he should be able to push harder against Republican intransigence. To Obama, pushing against them means deeper gridlock than what we have now, which actually plays into Republican hands. So, Obama makes compromises that look like surrenders.

And still his approval rating is higher than Ronald Reagan's was at the same point in his first term. People who think President Obama has not been liberal enough, weren't paying attention to him. Mr. Obama has always been a moderate, square in the center, not far too left. It's why he actually believed that there could be "post-partisanism" in Washington and that Republicans would work with him. Being in the "sensible center" means you get jabs from both the right wing and the left wing. President Obama is a moderate. So was President Bill Clinton. Look at their records. In my opinion, liberal is better, but moderation works just fine. Obama 2012!

This is a replay of the 1970's. The difference is that Obama is even more incompetent than Jimmy Carter.

Wow! The Obambi Administration is absolutely scared to death of Rick Perry! They have & are attacking him for any & everything.......but even with the strong arm unions, main stream Media & Yellow dog Democrats, Obambi don't have a chance of being reelected! Why? Because all he has to run on is to beg the voters to consider Obambi's bad luck, he inherited a bad economy, food stamps are a good thing for our economy, & after all Obambi is a good speaker.

If Obama turns around and becomes a strong social conservative, I may vote for him in the next election. But I'm not holding my breath.

Approval and getting a vote are two very different things. Approval means that people think you are doing a good job, on an absolute scale. Getting a vote means that compared to the other guy, you are not as bad. When compared to Sneezy, Sleepy, Dopey, Doc, Happy, Bashful, Grumpy, Obama looks much better.

Obama will never be another President Bill Clinton who did accomplish what he set out to accomplish and ran the country very well, always kept a balanced economy because he knew what he was doing as he did have the experience of a Governor working with budgets, managing the finances of the state, working with Republicans, dealing with healthcare, education, laws, taxes, tourism, etc....

Unlike Clinton, Bush, Reagan and other Presidents including Carter Obama had no experience as he only worked as a community organizer, he's been getting on the job training. The one good thing that Obama excels in is always blaming someone else for what he is not accomplishing.

Of course Democrats will say Obama is doing a good job because they are still hoping Obama will come through in giving them goodies, benefits for free, which is why they voted for Obama in the first place, especially when most believed he was going to open the bank accounts of the rich, wealthy and spread the wealth amongst all and many believed Obama was going to pay off their mortgages and many believed they were going to get free healthcare for all from Obama.

It has become a habit of Democrats to say they approve of the job Obama is doing (regardless of his no job experience )only because he belongs to their party and they voted for all the free stuff and they fail to realize that Obama has been President now for almost 3 years and has not accomplished what he promised when he campaigned. There is no way they will say he is not doing a good job, still hoping for free stuff, a free ride, a miracle, singing Kumbaya & Michael Row Your Boat Ashore holding hands across the world.

The people that can say Obama has done a good job are all the very wealthy people that received stimulus package monies for their companies like Goldman Sachs.

Also; Gallup just released a new poll finding Obambi' approval rating on his handling of the Economy is 26%!
Of course, it's gotta be someone or something's fault......not his!
It is pathetic when one is forced to run on "The Blame Platform"!

Once again it begs the question: Who in the world are the 44 per cent who actually approve of this bozo?

"Those disaffected liberals won't go Republican in 2012 – but they might just stay at home."

Yep. Exactly what the right is wishing for, eh, CNN? Get 'em to stay home. It'd be extremely unfortunate, and a personal setback for each and every one of us who have fought back against the corruption of lobbyist control over that which is the new GOP, but with the media pushing for this exact scenario by continually pushing the Bachmann's, Perry's, and Cain's agenda of hate and division to the forefront, it's not hard to follow what direction this country really is taking. Apparently hate is a really big sell. I doubt the aforementioned would have gotten much traction had President Obama not been half black. Sad, but all to true. What the liberals want isn't going to happen. Not with this President. Not during this time in history. It's time they (progressives) grew up and got over whatever it is they think he promised them. The entire Republican Party is set against him. Hard to compromise, let alone get done an agenda only a few (in the grand scheme of things) want. Turns the left into the same calibre of juveniles the right have become. Funny that. Progressives have spent the past two crying over the rigidity of this new Republican Party, yet, when push comes to shove, THEY themselves are becoming as rigid in their own demands.

So MORE than half of those dissaitisfied are so becuase he's conceeded too much to the right. I'm a not quite satisfied with how our President for the very same reason but I didn't stay home Election Day 2010 becuase I knew what was at stake and the Tea Tards took a lot of ground as a result. I sure as hell won't stay home nor vote for anyone on the GOP 2012 Ticket – and I have never vote a straight ticket in my life. To my democratic bretheren: Look, he said he was going to listen to both sides and that is what he's been doing, nearly to a fault, much to our chagrin. A non-vote is basically a vote for the GOP. Good Goddess! Don't stay home in 2012 or we will be even more screwed than we are now.

Reports on news, CNN,NYT,MSNBC. They all have left the Illegal citizen out of there reporting, lately. I am a us citizen, worked hard and paid my Taxes. I ask all of you, what caused the nasty reporting? It was ok to pay those workers less than minimum wage! Went on for years. It was wrong, but we are all to blame. Any true citizen who paid taxes knew, the workers were probably non citizen. So I personally won't forget who labeled Mexicans the problem. Don't hang the illegal on any other ethnic nationality! I am a good citizen, pay my dues, and I believe we will not forget who labeled hispanics. I will be supporting President Obama.

Why should this be a surprise to Obama? He has not done a single thing he promised or the change he promised. He thinks people will only consider the foolishness of Republicans but that's half the truth. People also consider how the president who they voted for kept his promises and Obama has failed millions of his followers and the irony is he still expects them to support him. Well if the choice was between Sarah and Obama maybe people would have voted for him but if its Romney and Obama people will vote for Romney more than Obama. He missed his opportunities and expect the people to forgive him. No way Mr President. You caved in at every opportunity. Never had a stance or a plan or an agenda or even if you did you let the republicans dominate it. You have failed miserably. You've gotta go.

Well, Mr. Steinhauser, you reap what you SOW. Most Americans are starting to see through the smoke and mirrors philosophy. You can fool some Americans some of the time, but you can NOT fool all Americans all the time. President NObama's blame game needs to stop, right now. The funny part is that some Americans are still swallowing his lies and BS.

If the president really wants to know who is responsible for America's situation, all he has to do is look in the mirror.

I loved that partisan political caravan composed of two one-million dollar luxury motorhomes, and followed by a dozen or more support vehicles.

Now we really know where our taxes are going.

    America, remember 2012!
