Immigration reform in August: Why now?

Washington (CNN) - It's late August. Would you rather hit the beach or discuss immigration reform?

The White House seems to be betting on the former, slipping out news of a major shift in the federal government's approach to illegal immigrants at a time when most Americans traditionally hit the road for summer vacation.

Obama is now choosing which laws to enforce and which to ignore. By his own words "that is not the way the system works".
But as he has proven time after time he is above the system and he makes his own rules as he goes.
    Could your rights be next

Another reason for impeachment. The president's job is to uphold our laws. He's a loser

The RethugliKKKlans lost (read: never had) the Latino vote.... and the Black vote, and the gay vote, and the middle class, the seniors, and the list keeps growing.
We will teach the Rethugs in 2012 that Si se puede!

Most people's kids are starting school Monday. Hardly vacation time for them.
If you don't like the immigration situation QUIT HIRING THEM! They are working somewhere, and its not in the
White House. Growing up is so hard to do.

  7. In order for 15 MILLION to find a job, only ONE must LOSE his.... Fire Obama in 2012

So Obama is playing socialist dictator again. Who needs Congress and all that messy constitution, rule of law and democratic republic stuff? Obama is in charge, this is HIS country to rule over as he sees fit. He's the Commander-in-Chief and if you don't like it well you can just take it up with HIS military. What was your name again? Where do you live? We'll have to keep an eye on you if you don't think he can do whatever he wants, whenever he wants to do it. Laws and their enforcement are mere suggestions that he can chose to ignore at will.

Welcome to the Obama Banana Republic. Hopefully he won't cancel the election scheduled in 2012 and declare himself President for Life.

Wow. Talk about yellow journalism. Who is this Silverleib turd anyway? All he's doing in those opening paragraphs is throwing out "red meat" to fabricate a conroversy by making wild ad hominem insinuations about the POTUS' underlying motivations for addressing what have actually been long-standing enforcement PROBLEMS in immigration enforcement. Hey, morons, immigration reform needs to happen, and tightening DOJ's focus so that it is prioritizing prosecution and deportation of violent or felonious illegal aliens higher than those who aren't...MAKES PERFECT SENSE.

If the "reasoning" of author of this blatant hit piece were to be taken as even remotely rational and then applied elsewise, we'd be asking nonsense questions about whether Obama is talking about jobs creation right now simply because it's summer vacation time for most people...oh wait, he would want as many people as possible to hear him talking about jobs, so does that mean he's doing that at the wrong time or that maybe, just maybe, it doesn't factor into it one bit that a lot of people might be on vacation...that maybe he's talking about these things BECAUSE THEY ARE ISSUES THAT NEED TO BE ADDRESSED. Silverlieb sounds liek a GOP character assassin paid by Crossroads GPS: 6 months from now, if Obama hadn't talked about immigration right now and used his executive authority to prioritize getting rid of the dangerous illegal immigrants first, Silverlieb, Bachman, Jaberwocky Barbie et al, would questioning why Obama never talks about immigration. Instead, Obama took action and did something about it...so that has to be subjected to reflex criticism, ad hominem attacks and conspiracy theories in order to generate "news."

I call shenanigans, CNN. Fire this imbecile.

Let me make it crystal clear: Tea Party Republicans oppose raising taxes for millionaires, but have no problem raising taxes for the middleclass. The total tax burden on Americans in 2010, as a percentage of GDP, was 24%, lower than it was in 1965. In comparison, Canadians paid 31% of GDP in taxes, Britons 34%, Germans 37%, and the French 42% (and all have successful single payor healthcare), yet Tea Party Republicans backed by the Koch Brothers are pushing to lower the tax rate for the top 2% to a mind-numbing 14% of GDP, while increasing the tax rate for middleclass Americans to 36%. Corporate taxes are at their lowest point in 60 years, yet Tea Party Republicans are pushing to lower the corporate tax rate to 12%, even as cash-soaked corporations are sitting on $22 trillion in revenue and continue to close US factories, pink-slip Americans, ship jobs overseas, bilk Americans via Republican create tax loopholes, and conspire with lobbyist to keep lucrative taxpayer funded subsidies in place. Revenue is at a 15 year low, leaving many states unable to pay for the replacement or repair of aging bridges, roadways, and sewer systems, yet, in an effort to defeat Obama, Republicans continue to throw gasoline on our current economic crisis they created by calling for deeper reductions in revenue, even though Obama offered $4 trillion in cuts for $1 trillion in tax increases aimed at closing tax loopholes for corporations and millionaires (Buchman opposes exempting the first $20,000 in income from payroll tax, a move uniquely designed to benefit the middleclass). 72% of Americans support raising taxes on the top 2%, also known as the Republican base, yet Tea Party Republicans keeping promoting baseless claims that reducing taxes on millionaires will create jobs, which failed to happen from 2000-2008, when Republicans controlled American politics and 11 million jobs vanished, outsourced overseas. Under Bush 43, spending increased 241% ($11.6 trillion), while revenue decreased 442%, due primarily to cuts in income and capital gains tax for the wealthy (under Reagan, the capital gains tax was 28%, under Bush it was 14%, accounting for billions in loss revenue), which led to massive teacher lay-offs and a 93% loss of total wealth for middleclass Americans.”

Votes, Votes, Votes from Latinos and Latin Americans. You can sugar coat it all you want, make a million excuses, lie to yourselves, at the end of the day most of us know this is nothing more than re-election votes for Obama. If these illegal immigrants get what they want then it doesn't matter to Latinos and Latin Americans and the Democrat community why Obama is doing it now if it helps get Obama their vote to keep him in the White House.

"The White House seems to be betting on the former, slipping out news of a major shift in the federal government's approach to illegal immigrants at a time when most Americans traditionally hit the road for summer vacation."

So if people are on vacation they won't be able to watch or read the news? Besides, most people don't have money to go on vacation anyway.

  21. A True Centrist

Why now? Simple answer...to distract people from the terrible job he has done on just about every other issue. Since he took office: unemployment up, on pace to increase national debt by $6 trillion, stock market in a free fall, gas prices are still high, the international community hates us even more, we have more troops overseas than under Bush. Do you get the point? This is an attempt at distracting the American public, those like Dominican mama 4 Obama who obviously live in some sort of alternate universe and can't see the reality right in front of their face. The man has failed, plain and simple.

Does this mean that US citizens can now freely break the laws of this country? If you're here illegally from another country, no problem. If you are a citizen of USA and trespass into someone's home, no problem. Wow.

Deport illegals, fine employers, no welfare, housing, food stamps, education or anchor babies. Go home. Leave us alone to handle our issues without spending millions on your care.

USA citizens – do not vote for Obama.
