(CNN) – Republican Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin announced Monday that he will not run for the GOP presidential nomination in 2012.
Ryan said he appreciates the support of those who encouraged him to launch a bid for the White House, but that he will continue to serve in Congress.
"While humbled by the encouragement, I have not changed my mind, and therefore I am not seeking our party's nomination for President," Ryan said in a statement. "I remain hopeful that our party will nominate a candidate committed to a pro-growth agenda of reform that restores the promise and prosperity of our exceptional nation. I remain grateful to those I serve in Southern Wisconsin for the unique opportunity to advance this effort in Congress."

Its difficult to run for POTUS when your support in your district is crumbling like a sand castle at high tide.
Ah Ha, wait till he gets voted out of his district!
Paul Ryan is going to have a hard time getting reelected to Congress. He can forget about 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
By the time the 2012 election is over, the Ryan Budget is going to examined in minute detail, and will be revealed as the death of the middle class. Obama will hang it on the republicans like he hung W on McCain. I hope Rep. Ryan savors each day for the next few months, because this is the high-water point of his political career.
Oh darn... I was so looking forward to him calling the police on anyone protesting him. Again.
That was the right choice, for him, for now.
Ah gee, Paulie, why not? Not to worry. Your time in congress will be over after the next election.
ie. I just want to keep my seat.
No surprise. What was he going to run on? The one who tried to kill Medicare and Social Security?
He, and every other Republican, just better wait until 2016. Save your money in 2012.
He has already messed things up for the party. What does the Repubs need with him. His job is done thank you. LOL
Good! No Teaparty,or excuse me,No Gop!!! What ever the Sam Hill they are??? No aliens from different planets! Thanks!
I am not a fan of this new GOP and their alliance with fiscal terrorist/extremist group the Tea party . I do have respect for Rep. Ryan he is one of the few in the Republican party that actually put forth an actual idea on how fix America. He did not give a bunch of rhetoric. Agree with is proposal or not my God the man put forth an idea to be discussed. I bet you if he was in Cantors place we could of had a debt deal in place and there would have been no downgrade or market crash. Just think a Republican who has a thought and proposals to discuss and not just a bunch rhetoric and double talk.
"I remain grateful to those I serve in Southern Wisconsin....." Paul Ryan is my Congressman, from my town, Janesville, Wisconsin. What with the GM plant and associated businesses closing, property taxes going up while property values have dropped dramatically (the new tax assessment value of my home is 20% higher than the appraised value, how does that happen?); the school district budget is two million less than it was two years back. We are closing school and cramming the kids into the remaining schools. Our Governor Walker hates Public Education and is proud of it. We are hurting big time here. Paul Ryan has done nothing but talk tax cuts for the rich. And there are no rich folk in Janesville. They've all moved out years ago. But these yahoos will most likely re-elect him again because he is a hometown boy. We are so screwed. Paul Ryan hasn’t served us for a while now.
Maybe the dems should offer him an Ambassadorship, for all the help his budget plan gave them.
This is okay. We need people who understand economics and work for the good of the American people in congress, too. Representative Ryan, keep doing the fine work you are doing in congress and maybe, just maybe we can save Medicare from the neglect the Democrats are perpetrating on it now.
WHAT???!
And he has his little budget plan and everything all ready to implement.
Say it isn't so.....
"but that he will continue to serve in Congress."
Perhaps, perhaps not. Little coverage on the subject, but Paul Ryan isn't the most popular guy in Wisconsin right now.
simple medicare cut
to young like obama
So Mr. I'll turn medicare into an under-funded voucher program and still never balance the budget Ryan finally realized left his echo chamber and realized that the majority of Americans aren't Ayn Rand devotees. Good for him.
Wow, just think how much he could charge his constituents for town halls if he decided to run for President. I think he forgot who he works for.
Ryan is a hypocrite. He accepted social security to fund college yet wants to eliminate it as we know it today. Ryan sits around in trendy DC restaurants sipping $700 wine while proposing the elimination of Medicare as we know it. Paul Ryan is out of touch and will soon be out of office in WI. WI progressives will not accept lying, deceitful, scum bag politicians for long. We will act in 2012!
The Real Tom Paine Said: "Its difficult to run for POTUS when your support in your district is crumbling like a sand castle at high tide." In ten years,Janesville, Wisconsin will look as bad as Rockford, Illinois, which is just 35 miles to the south. Rockford used to be a wonderful town. Now... can you define ghetto? "impoverished, neglected, or otherwise disadvantaged."
Even this idiot runs, no one in right mind votes....because, he said, Rich need not pay tax, only cut spending, how can we generate revenue without taxing....did he have any brain, what an idiot....with no brain, idiot....GOP thugs no brain...
