(CNN) - Karl Rove caused a commotion in recent days by predicting that Sarah Palin will run for president and hinting that she could announce her campaign during a speech to a tea party group in Iowa over Labor Day weekend.
That might be news to Palin. Asked just over a week ago if she would be ready to join the race by the time Labor Day rolls around, Palin responded, "I doubt it."
Rove's evidence is this: A new, campaign-style video released by Palin's political action committee highlighting her recent visit to the Iowa State Fair, and in his words, "a schedule next week that looks like that of a candidate, not a celebrity."
Setting aside the fact that pretty much no one outside of Sarah and Todd Palin truly knows her schedule - and that Palin has no actual schedule in Iowa this week - lost in the Rove buzz is the reality that he and the former Alaska governor are not exactly close.
They have traded long distance barbs over Palin's decision to resign from the governorship in 2009, her participation in a television show about her life in Wasilla (Rove said the move undermined her political "gravitas"), and the viability of the Palin-endorsed Senate candidate Christine O'Donnell in 2010.
The two aren't exactly pen pals.
It is entirely possible that Rove might have gleaned some inside knowledge from the green rooms of Fox News, where he and Palin are both paid contributors. But it otherwise seems unlikely that outside of Palin's tiny circle of confidantes, Rove and Rove alone would have access to her political plans.
And yet, Palin remains among the most unpredictable political figures in the country. An announcement at the September 3 rally in Iowa remains unlikely, but it should not be ruled out either.
If she does decide to run at some point in the next month, she is promising to deliver a showstopper.
"You won't be able to miss the announcement," Palin winked at the pack of reporters following her around the fair in Des Moines earlier this month.
So will Palin become a full-fledged candidate when she returns to Iowa on September 3?
She was asked that very question by several reporters during her whirlwind walking tour of the Iowa State Fair on August 12.
Here she is, in her own words:
Q: When is a good time? Do you have a timeline?
Palin: I have said that that August/September timeframe is important for logistical and legal reasons to jump in there, but…
Q: So by next month?
Palin: I think that just practically speaking that has to be kind of a drop dead time. Also, in fairness to supporters, who are standing on the timeline, and this is what I have told Todd over and over again, I don't want to be seen as or perceived as stringing people along, asking supporters, 'Oh don't just jump in there on someone else's bandwagon because I may jump in, so hold off a little bit.' That is not fair to them. After another month or two goes by, they need to know who it is that they can jump behind. Now more than ever, everybody has got to get involved in this 2012 election. They need to get out there and campaign for their chosen candidates, its all the more reason to hurry up and decide.
A few moments later, there was this exchange:
Q: Will you know by the next time you are here in Iowa whether you will be in, over Labor Day?
Palin: I doubt it. By the next time I am here by September 3? I don't know if within the next couple of weeks I will be ready for an announcement or not.
Q: So the end of September is no longer a viable deadline?
Palin: No, he was asking about my next visit here on September 3, if I would be ready for an announcement September 3. And I said I don't know if I would be ready by September 3.
Q: So the end of September would still be your timetable?
Palin: That is still a possibility for a timetable. Yes, definitely.
An Idiot, just like Rick Perry....period.....a total idiot with no brain.....
Flip flopper, just like Mitt Romney.
Common-sense action plan person of which Sarah Palin owns lots...
Will she run?...yes! she prepared for getting in the race for a long time..
The media and the pundits refused to see ..WHY ? they all don't want her to run...because
"Sarah Palin is a Winner".............
Palin is starting to look a little "long in the tooth." I wonder if all her cheap, self-serving, hypocrisy is starting to take its toll on her appearance.
The way I see it is like this: Karl Rove is the smartest individual. This is only way to finish Palin completely. If she does not announce anything at the Labor Day, no one will longer take her seriously in whatever she will be doing!
She is in the business of Running For President, Inc.
She IS NOT in the business of campaigning to win the Presidency. She knows that will never happen but she will USE CNN, FOX, and any other media outlet willing to give her the time of day, to refresh her image with the 19% of Americans that have some kind of affection for her. She will do this so she can continue to wring money out of them.
NO ONE gives a rats puttie what this crazie chick does..............CNN let it go already.
RFUN Sarah RUN. We need to have more fun.
$he'$ afraid to run, becau$e $he know$ her ignorance would $how and $he might lo$e $$$$$$$$$$$$$
Labor Day isn't right for Palin. She never had a job she didn't quit...
PS. Rove's comments are geared not toward commenting accurately on Palin but rather on guiding and manipulating the process to defeat Obama. Mr. Rove gave that date because he wants to force Palin OFF THE NATIONAL STAGE. He feels that she dilutes the Republican brand with independents – – and he's right.
Unfortunately, Perry, Bachmann, Cain, Santorum, Gingrich don't have a chance with thinking voters even if Palin doesn't put a spotlight on the political CRAZIES. Romney, Huntsman don't have a chance with neanderthal voters to get the nomination and if they did, they can't credibily differentiate themselves from the President.
Palin is the epitome of an intellectual lightweight; a clown. In a matter of a few years she has managed to deceive alot of people and has become a millionaire in the process. If she does enter the presidential race, it is just to further her brand. She is not a serious politicial; she is a celebrity and an oppurtunist. What she wants is the power and prestige that comes with the office of president; she doesn't want to do the work or have the responsibility and accountability that comes with the job. No intelligent, well read thinking person would ever vote for her. She is desperate to remain relevant in a world where her star has faded considerably. Palin has all but been eclipsed by Bachmann who also does not contribute anything of value to the political discourse of the country. They are both narrow minded, provincial people who are delusional enough to think that they could ever be president of the United States. Ambition has it's place, but reality is something that escapes them both.
I doubt she's running. She just loves yanking your chains libtards... AND making some moolah in the process! We all win, except YOU! BTW, did I mention today how beautiful Sarah is?!!
Palin scares the crap out of cluless Obama
in a gloves off debate Palin would have Obama saying
AME AME AME thats all folks!!
I think that she might run but quit part way through since that is what she does best. I don't think that she really has learned enough to be president. I don't think that she knows enough to be a heartbeat aways from being president either. She needs to be on the sidelines and learn.
the publicity-w#ore will milk it as long as possible and then pass. Too bad though. It would have been such great fun to see her stammer and misspeak her way thru the campaign.
She may be dumb as a stick, but she is the best the republicans and Fox have to offer as a candidate.
Why does it take the media so long to figure out what the rest of us already know? Everybody knows she's only in it for the money.
Go back to being a Model, Sarah! Thats what you know best!!! Don,t make a fool out of yourself in politics, can,t you read the Blogs? 99% Negative????? SHHHiSH?????
Mrs. Blamin Palin is not a political figure. She is a reality show contestant. She is only interested in increasing her bank account. She will never be President. I know it, her fiscal terrorist group supporters know it and the reporters writing these so called story's know it. Time to let the great white north return to the great white north.
Sarah can't stand not being the center of attention. She sells books but her movie was a failure. The public is tired of her stupidity but she is too self centered to even notice that her 15 minutes of fame are over. Even the republicans are getting tired of her trying to tell everyone what to say, do and think.........
Palin was the first one to criticize President Obama for not immediately putting a no fly zone in Libya while innocent Americans and citizens from other countries were still in Libya, that's because she just opens her mouth without any knowledge or thought. There are 10 women Presidents around the World and Palin is a total embarrassment to even be considered qualified to be President of this country, the World would laugh us off the map. Check out the 10 women Presidents as well as their spouses and then make a comparison to Sarah and Todd Palin, you'll see that water seeks it's own level.
In what universe does she live that she thinks she would have even the faintests chance at the nomination?! She's so awful that even most Republicans wouldn't vote for her...she is an embarrassment to any thiking person! This is all about media attention, which seems to be the highest priority for her.
She'll wait until all the debates are over. She knows she wouldn't get anywhere if people see she has nothing to offer.
Sarah has one of the most destructive mouths I have ever heard.
"Going Rogue"...another meaning of the word Rogue: imposter
