(CNN) - Michele Bachmann's press secretary characterized comments by the Republican presidential candidate, when she said Hurricane Irene was a message to Washington, as a joke.
"Obviously she was saying it in jest," Alice Stewart told TalkingPointsMemo Monday.
"Washington, D.C. you'd think by now they'd get the message," Bachmann said at a town hall in Florida Saturday to laughs. "An earthquake, a hurricane, are you listening? The American people have done everything they possibly can, now it's time for an act of God and we're getting it."

That's a very uncool joke.
If by joking they mean that she was having a laugh at the expense of everyone who was getting hammered by the hurricane, then yes, she was "joking". This woman is disgusting.
I bet the few who died and the millions still without power found this hilarious...
Poor taste, poor judgment to be joking about something that has killed people, and flooded so many and destroy people's home. I guess if you are from Minn. these storms are funny. Not so funny on the East Coast.

This woman is hugely unprepared and dangerous. 8 People died as a result of this hurricane, and this woman's insensitivity deemed, " this is joke time". Why do people on the right believe they have a main line to God, when at every instance they thwart his teachings. It may have been a joke this time, but Conservative Republicans like Michelle Bachmann really do believe that God sends natural disasters to punish those who don't share their point of view, or who they perceive as not acting in the best interests of the United States or any other institution that they support.
What we experienced here and in other states is not a joke. Just like the bridge that collasped in Min. years ago was not a joke. People died and are homeless. Shame on Bachman for turning this into politics. Bachman needs to resign and apologize to the American people.
