Just a joke: Bachmann's hurricane message from God

(CNN) - Michele Bachmann's press secretary characterized comments by the Republican presidential candidate, when she said Hurricane Irene was a message to Washington, as a joke.

"Obviously she was saying it in jest," Alice Stewart told TalkingPointsMemo Monday.

Over the weekend, the Minnesota Rep. turned Hurricane Irene into a campaign punch line, suggesting the recent natural disasters were acts of God.

"Washington, D.C. you'd think by now they'd get the message," Bachmann said at a town hall in Florida Saturday to laughs. "An earthquake, a hurricane, are you listening? The American people have done everything they possibly can, now it's time for an act of God and we're getting it."

I don't know what's more frightening, the fact she believes in most of the stuff she says, or that there are people out there that would vote for her.

I seem's most of you didn't think it was funny..well sometimes humor can be found in the most trying of circumstances. I think it was far far funnier that Obama's "well, I guess the projects weren't that shovel ready" made at a conference on jobs after spending 781 Billion dollars.
Now here's one for you...Hurricane Irene is God's stimulus package. Billions will be pumped into the economy to re build and clean up. Think about it.

This nutcase didn't say it was a joke, her people have to cover for her and said it was meant as a joke. As of now, 21 people have died due to the hurricane, three I believe here in NJ. Her stupid remark was business as usual for her, and it is her remarks that are bound to doom her. That people actually believe in her is a mystery to me. Crazy-eyes Bachmann will never ever be president, just like the Wasilla Quitta. Huntsmann is the only sane one in that TeaPub party, the party of clowns. I wonder what Reagan would think of what his party has become....so sad.

This shows how little she understands or considers her statements. The idea of drilling in the Everglades is wrong as well. Where does she do her thinking assuming she does that. He ideology clouds her logic.

As Shakespear is quoted as sayingt: The truth is oft times spoken in jest! So....take a moment and ponder...what if it really was a message from God! Look at the laws recently passed (especially in NYS) from God's point of view...I am not joking either!

Oh yeah. That's obviously a joke! I mean, she's a psycho-conservative Bible thumping tea party member. There is no way she was being serious about God cursing our reckless nearly atheist country. (Sarcasm aside: saying this was a joke is COMPLETE fabrication for PR. She and her family or Christian extremists. I hope 9/11 has made us weary of ALL religious extremists. Even Christian extremists. Anything EXTREME is probably not healthy psychologically.)

Bachmann, the gift to Democrats that keeps on giving. I suppose we can likewise conclude that all of those Texas fires that Perry prayed for rain to put out, which never came, means that God has it in for Perry (or Texas).

A leading candidate with a high profile must understand that humor – particularly made without regard to welfare of others – must be reserved for venues clearly reserved for making jokes. This standard is elevated even higher once a candidate attains an office like the Presidency. It is one thing to joke at an annual roast held at a black tie event in Washington and quite different to joke at a town hall meeting in Florida. This incident foreshadows further gaffes and missteps that will reveal Bachmann's lack of understanding of the power in the public forum.

Useing fear and suffering as tools of interpatation of Gods Will is trully LEADING FROM THE REAR !

Her migraines might be caused by Gods Will , maybe God is telling her she needs to clean up her attic !

And this is the problem with today's GOP/TP: this sort of crazy statement is EXACTLY what we think they say and mean, and is the reason we will never consider them really viable candidates for the most powerful position in the world. Face it, the GOP/TP is at least for now (temporarily?) insane. Bachmann typifies that insanity. If the GOP/TP don't stamp out that sort of lunacy, the'll never win another national election.

Bachmann IS a joke and anything she says can't be taken seriously. THIS however was in very poor taste – not much different from Islamists saying God allowed them to destroy the WTC because America is whatever. If Bachmann truly believes in God, she wouldn't joke about what He thinks.

Why is it that every time a Republican politician suffers from hoof in mouth disease, they try to blow it off with the joke excuse.

If a good serious contender comes out, Independents will take notice. Amazing that Republicans gravitate toward the sideshows.

God doesn't joke around with this world and its creatures. She is not only blasphemous as a Christian but also ignorant as a politician. Please step down, Ms. Bachmann.

Awesome! Just a few more ignorant comments like this and hopefully the rest of the country will start to see what a crazy lady Bachmann is. Considering her frequency of ignorance, that should happen within the next month or two, right? One can only hope...

One thing is for sure, Bachmann is good at Absurdist Theater. So I have no problem believing her press secretary that this was a joke. Everything she does is a joke, isn’t it?

Why does the GOP/Tea Party have problems with science? GOP/Tea Party politicians like Bachmann and Perry prove the point that religion and politics do not mix.

"Even if she was joking, she has to be smarter than this."

She's not smarter than this. Hence the "joke" ... and the necessary back-peddling. Who should be smarter than this, though, is her Republican advisor Ed Rollins for trying to push this woman along in her fantasy laden, ego driven delusions.

Michelle is dangerous to herself and to others! All Americans! yet, there are 10% now in the republican party who believe the words coming out of this nut case! I used to say to Palin that, "Stupid lasts forever!" I guess I have to include Michelle Bimbo!

I'm not a Bachmann fan; but also think some people are just playing partisan politics with this. She was clearly trying to be funny - regardless of whether you personally think she actually WAS funny.

Come on, people! Isn't there enough legitimate stuff do disagree with her about? You don't have to make this molehill into a mountain - it just makes you look partisan.

Truly a leader we can all be proud of. Classy Michelle. These people are so conservitive, if they all flew around the world in an airplane they would still think it was flat.
