(CNN) – Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann defended her recent comments about natural disasters in Washington, D.C. serving as messages from God, saying she was joking.
"I have a great sense of humor and I think it's important to exhibit that humor sometimes when you are talking to people as well," Bachmann said Monday at a campaign event in Miami. "Of course I was being humorous when I said that."
The Minnesota Rep. received criticism following statements she made over the weekend that equated the recent earthquake and Hurricane Irene to acts of God.
"Washington, D.C. you'd think by now they'd get the message," Bachmann said at a town hall in Florida Saturday to laughs. "An earthquake, a hurricane, are you listening? The American people have done everything they possibly can, now it's time for an act of God and we're getting it."
At Monday's event, Bachmann said the remarks were intended to tell the president he is not listening to the American people.
In answer to Alan's question "what else would they be [besides acts of God]:
That's simple. They are called weather patterns. They are dictated by ocean temperatures, wind patterns, and other various readily available explanations that do not include a magic man in the sky.
What's sad is that not only does she believe what she said, but so do the idiots who listen to her.
Or the joke about rich people paying more taxes (after extending bush tax cuts)
Oh you mean the tax cuts that he was forced to extend in order to get the GOP to extend unemployment benefits? Or did Fox News forget to mention that to you in their talking points? Maybe next time, you should read a paper or leave the conversation to the adults in the room.
Bachmann thinks it's a joke. Glenn Beck calls it a blessing. You tea-baggers got some rela winners out there in front of y'all. I imagine Rick Perry's position is something akin to seeing it as God's version of capital punishment. And yes, God executes the innocent...just like the state of Texas.
And yet liberals political hijacking of Katrina is as clean and pure as the wind driven snow. LOL hypocrites.
She uses God for her own ends- a lot of Christians would call that evil.
Does anyone actually intend to vote for this woman in the GE? I mean, come on! Let's see: no more medicare/medicaid because god will take care of you. Can you imagine her foreign relations? She'd have someone bombing us within a week.
Rep. Bachmann please dust off your Bible and read the parable about the good Samaritan...trust me you are not the Samaritan in the story.
Political jokes are pretty funny too.... until they get elected.
So a storm that kills dozens of people in the East Coast is joke material to this woman? Smh.
We are up to 38 Dead from Hurricane Irene.
There is NOTHING Presidential Joking about disasters.
She thinks she has a "great sense of humor". Someone is kidding themself.
Hey everyone! It's time for some ME!
PS Michele Bachmann's going to hell. God told me, personally, in an e-mail.
So, she took the name of the Lord in vain, called out God, AND made fun of fat people. Sounds like a wiener, oops...winner, to me.
Joking or not – they are a wake up call from God and it is no joke!
These zealots love playing the God card then when it gets them into trouble they poo poo it and say it was all a big misunderstanding.
Something tells me the families of the dead and those who lost everything are not laughing Michele.
Time to up your meds Michelle. The voices clearly haven't gone yet (and no, they aren't from your god).
Those who speak to a god are religious, those whose god speaks to them have schizophrenia.
One of the prevalent symptoms: "•Strongly held beliefs that are not based in reality (delusions)".
This woman is as mad as a mongoose.
Why don't these Conservative Pigs ever have the moral decency to apologize when they make mistakes??
Are they stupid - or just arrogant pigs?????
The Woman is a moron. If you quit covering her and Palin, maybe they'll go away.
Why don't these Conservatives ever have the moral decency to apologize when they make mistakes??
God WAS sending a message: that Global Change is real and people should change their ways before it's too late. THAT however, is a message that conservatives are failing to heed.
Minnesotans will vote for Bachman for Pres. -they love her humor?!?! Quit now Michelle before you make a bigger fool of yourself.
Humor is funny because it exposes "A Great Truth", and is, in fact, funnier when some people don't get it. So let's face it: Bachmann & her audience was laughing at Americans who suffered through all three events. Come snowstorm time, blizzard, spring rains or summer tornadoes, its a safe bet that Bachmann will exhibit a little more sensitivity. Ross Perot had a damn funny sense of humor too – we all know how far that got him.
Overall, I'm not looking for a Prankster-in-Chief.
I can't wait for her "hilarious" 9/11 jokes in two weeks.
