Bachmann points to 'great sense of humor' after God joke

(CNN) – Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann defended her recent comments about natural disasters in Washington, D.C. serving as messages from God, saying she was joking.

"I have a great sense of humor and I think it's important to exhibit that humor sometimes when you are talking to people as well," Bachmann said Monday at a campaign event in Miami. "Of course I was being humorous when I said that."

Her reaction was similar to her campaign's response Monday.

The Minnesota Rep. received criticism following statements she made over the weekend that equated the recent earthquake and Hurricane Irene to acts of God.

"Washington, D.C. you'd think by now they'd get the message," Bachmann said at a town hall in Florida Saturday to laughs. "An earthquake, a hurricane, are you listening? The American people have done everything they possibly can, now it's time for an act of God and we're getting it."

At Monday's event, Bachmann said the remarks were intended to tell the president he is not listening to the American people.

She may have a great sense of humor but its unfortunate she don't know when it's appropriate to use it.

Next time she make a comment she'd better ask God what it should be...maybe he'll tell her to "think before she speaks." Woman is a moron...

Hey Michele, here's a joke for you: My brother lives in southern Vermont. His house is currently under 2 feet of water and he has lost many of his possessions. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! Fortunately, he is safe (as opposed to 40 less-fortunate people). Had he been injured or killed, this joke would be even funnier! ROTFL!!! Ha ha ha ha ha ha! I LOVE your sense of humor, Michele. It really speaks to me as a rational human being. Ha ha ha ha ha ha!! I just can't stop laughing at all the people devastated by loss of life, property and possessions. Ha ha ha ha ha ha! Keep em coming, Michele, I heard an 11 year-old boy was killed when a tree crashed through his apartment...sounds like a punchline for your next 'joke'. Can't wait to hear it!

That means she was laughing at people dying under the force of nature...and she blamed it on those who cry foul. What an amazing spin!

Lord help the GOP and I'm not joking, right now they have Yeehah Perry, Gotcha Palin, Standup Palin, and Flip Flop Romney. I've said it before where are the intelligent Republicans right now when we need them?

Bachmann and the rest of the Tea Party don't have a clue. They definitely don't represent the American people as a whole. The United States is a diverse nation, the Tea Party only represents a minority that would opress the rest of us and force their bigoted religious ideology down everyone else's throat.

I don't think most people who say that God sends us messages with weather are ever kidding. I also believe people who think God choses to punish us with or send us messages with weather are a tad too suckered into whatever religion they subscribe to. What would the point be? History has clearly shown us that it repeats itself because we do not learn from our mistakes. Why attempt to teach those who do not care about the lessons? Besides – who's being punished? The people who offend God or people who are perfectly normal random victims of random weather?

41 accounted dead at this hour, billions of dollars in damages a,d millions of lives adversely affected is not a joking matter. But may later she'll claim that her prayers to God were fundemental in creating the jobs needed to clean-up ths god-awful mess! Or maybe Perry will – he hits that his relationship to the Almighty is even better then it was with Moses.

Where do you Republican find these nut cases! Do you recruit party members out of the mental wards?

These republicans in their quest to destroy OUR president will occasionally make ignorant jokes. Anyone remember George laughing about not finding WMD under the table – while our soldiers were dying? This is only the beginning. Wait until the actual debates start against Obama.

When no one is laughing, there is no joke. Maybe the pounding ache in your head is Divine Intervention. Ever think of that?

This idiot lost my vote with this little remark. I had a brother firefighter killed while doing a water rescue search from this event, and this b1tch makes a joke about it? Do all real conservatives a favor and shut the f*** up.

I'm loathed to say it, but she does make a slight point about not listening. I think Obama has been given a raw deal, Hell, anyone who came into office would have been hard pressed to clean up this mess, but the man has been advised in a mediocre fashion and has flat out not heeded what many are saying. I think the man has done as best he can given the fact that he has a Old Boy network Republican party to work with, whose sole interest is to enforce the myth that minorities are inferior to the "Status Quo."

So much for the career as a comedienne. When your joke is met with the sound of crickets in the night, uh, it ain't funny. Yeah, the people of New York and Vermont are keeling over at your excellent "sense" of humor. As the Great Gazoo might say, "Hello dumb dumb." Let the slow flameout of this bird brain's presidential aspirations continue.....

Hey, Michele has an AWESOME sense of humor. How else could you keep coming back thinking she has a sno cone's chance in Hades of becoming our president?

@ rapierpoint: Maybe YOU need to take a closer look at what's going on in places like northern New Jersey. People's lives, livlihoods and homes are being washed away because of this storm. Having grown up in Paterson, NJ, some of them are my family and friends. All of this attention would be an over-reaction if it had been said by a two-bit, empty-headed entertainer. But instead, it was said by someone campaigning to be these people's President! She is, and should be, held to a higher standard and should realize her mistake and own it. Everyone has a slip of the tongue at some point and those can be forgiven. But when you are too dense and too insensitive to see and admit to the mistake, you are quite deserving of the criticism.
