Washington (CNN) - In comedy, timing is everything.
And minutes before Sarah Palin, former Alaska governor and parent of a child with Down syndrome, made her much-anticipated speech in Iowa, Los Angeles-based comedian Eric Golub told a joke that compared liberal political ideology to “special needs children.”
After commending Palin on raising her son Trig while balancing other responsibilities, Golub made the analogy.
“For that reason alone, the left should worship Sarah Palin and adopt her as one of their own,” Golub said. “Because the leftist haters are an entire political ideology of special needs children.”
Golub continued by saying that liberals are needy and feel entitled.
“And unlike Trig, they aren't very lovable,” Golub said. “All you hear from them is give me, give me, I need, I need, I want, I deserve, I’m entitled – no you don’t.”
Since announcing she had a child with Down syndrome in 2008, Palin has defended the special needs community in a number of instances.
In February 2010, Palin called for Rahm Emanuel, then-White House chief of staff, to be fired after he called liberal groups thinking of running ads against Democratic lawmakers “retarded.”
When an episode of Fox’s “Family Guy” mocked Trig that same month, Palin wrote in a post to her Facebook followers that it felt like “a kick in the gut.”
She also included a response to the "Family Guy" episode from her daughter, Bristol Palin.
“As a culture, shouldn’t we be more compassionate to innocent people – especially those who are less fortunate,” Bristol wrote. “Shouldn’t we be willing to say that some things just are not funny?”
Palin never mentioned the remark while speaking at the tea party-affiliated “Restoring America” rally in Indianola, Iowa.
Charlie Gruschow, co-founder of Tea Party of America, said he never heard the comment or met the comedian before the event.
"Some of the people on staff had heard him speak before and thought he would be a good person to break up and entertain the crowd," Gruschow said.
This isn't the first time Golub made the comment. He also used it while speaking at a 2010 convention for the conservative organization Young America's Foundation.
Palin's team could not be reached for comment.

All jokes aside...as far as I can tell, Palin's most impressive act as Governor-before-quitter of Alaska was to enact a socialist policy requiring private corporations (oil companies) to redistribute some of their wealth to citizens of the state. How does she justify that to the Tea Party?

Sarah Palin's only purpose is to accentuate peoples' differences and foment hatred to divide America and bring about its downfall.
It should be noted that the episode of Family Guy mentioned did not directly mock Trig. In the episode Chris had a crush on a girl with Down's Syndrome. When they went on a date she was a total bitch and later said her mom was the former governor of Alaska. Ironically the actress playing the girl actually has Down's Syndrome and called out Palin for exploiting Trig and using him as a prop.
The funny thing is that it isn't even a joke so much as a dull insult.

She is such an ignorant, uninformed, histrionic, shrill and irrational moron. It's just jawdropping how stupid she is. The fact that she draws such a "teabagger" crowd speaks volumes about them in that regard and their racism.
That is why I dislike most republicans. They spew their talking points – for example "it is inappropriate to call someone retarded or special needs" – when the talking points can be directed at or self righteously critical of their political adversaries. But their own talking points are cast aside when there is every reason they could be directed at or self-righteously critical of whomever they feel is on their side. Their entire ideology is one-sided. Really a sick and hypocritical segment of our population. No joke.

I don't know... I've always found Palin rather retarded, backwards, "slow", "special needs", a rider of the short bus, mentally challenged, etc... She couldn't run a supermarket let alone the entire country.
So, to recap... people who don't support Palin can't say a word about special needs or autistic people... but anyone who does support her is free to.

@Star, I'm not sure what Palin's family's tribal status is, but services by the Indian Health Service result from treaty obligations entered into by the Federal Government in exchange for Indian land.
@Thinkagain, The Alaska Permanent Fund is not a redistribution of monies confiscated from citizens through taxation. Rather, it is money earned from the sale of natural resources that are owned by the people of Alaska. I think it is a good and fair program.
You both need to find other examples to make your points.

Not only did she quit the people of Alaska, her and her family benefit from Federal and State subsidies/entitlements, all the while bashing everyone else who benefits from programs paid for by others than herself.
