(CNN) – Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, speaking before Sen. Jim DeMint's forum in South Carolina Monday, was hardly shy about criticizing President Barack Obama, once again calling him the "most effective food stamp president in American history."
"The gap between the America the founding fathers created and the system currently down in Washington is extraordinary," he said. "We are in great danger of decaying from citizenship to being subjects … this is a system rum amok."
Gingrich warned that the country – namely the economy - is in "grave danger" and could get worse if Obama remains in office.
When asked what his solution would be, Gingrich listed off several items, including repealing the Wall Street Reform bill, changing the Environmental Protection Agency, improving the Food and Drug Administration, keeping taxes the same in 2013, having zero capital gains taxes and the implementation of an American energy plan.
When asked by Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, what would be his number one priority as president, Gingrich said to laughs, "the King bill to repeal Obamacare." King jokingly shot back, "no further questions."
As for the role of the courts, Gingrich, a life-long historian, did not hold back.
"I believe the legislative and executive branches have an obligation to defend the Constitution against judges who are tyrannical and seek to impose un-American values on the people of the Untied States … legislative and executive branches have a right to correct the judiciary," he said.
On the subject of the definition of marriage, Gingrich said there should be a constitutional amendment stating that marriage is between a man and a woman.
"I do believe we have every right to defend a 3,000 year clear record. That's what marriage is. And I don't think we should be intimidated."
having read a few of these pres. hopefuls...i am not hearing any new ideas...same thing for 30 years.enough already...the ideas of the gop do not work!
how can you stop a fast running train to a halt? You can't. Don't expect obama to fix the economy in 4 hours. It took Bush 8 years to make the mess. AS they say: It takes two to tango. These republicans put their party first ahead of the country. How can Obama fix what ails the country without the cooperation of the Repugs? Come on get it done.
Who is still listening to this shameless person ?
yeah we are in trouble because of people like you.loser.
If I;m not mistaken, the foundiing fathers and others forming government "For and By the United States" did so with the intention of it being a two party system with bypartenship a major working part. Repubs have you read anything lately regardiing the structure of this government???? Apparently not. For one party to try to get this country back on its feet while the other side fights every move is like man playing poker and .drawing four aces as the other players get up and leave saying they don't want to play. What good are the aces??/ What good is it for one party to try to bring our country back to solidity if the other party not only won't help but leaves the table saying they don't want to play?????????????
To old to be president. When he was speaker,he had no understanding of his job,why give him a new one.
