Palin hits Perry on state-mandated vaccine

Washington (CNN) - While she wasn't on stage at Monday night's debate, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin jumped in on the attacks against Texas Gov. Rick Perry for signing a state law that required inoculation against a sexually-transmitted disease for sixth-grade girls.

"You have to go up against the big guns," Palin said on FOX News Monday, praising GOP candidate Michele Bachmann for bringing up the issue at the debate. "And they will try to destroy you, when you call them out on the mistakes that they have made."

In 2007 Perry signed off on a law that mandated vaccines for HPV, a virus that can cause cervical cancer. While, parents had the option of opting out for religious reasons, the measure was still considered an unpopular law in the Lone Star State.

Bachmann confronted Perry at the "CNN Tea Party Republican Debate" in Tampa, saying the Texas governor's former chief of staff later went to work for a drug company that made the vaccine.

“There was a big drug company that made millions of dollars because of this mandate,” Bachmann said, adding that Perry received contributions from the company.

Perry countered saying he had received $5,000.

"I raised $30 million," Perry said. "If you think I can be bought for $5,000, then I'm offended," Perry said.

Firing back with a shot that spurred wide applause in the audience, Bachmann said: "Well, I'm offended for all the little girls and the parents that didn't have a choice."

After the debate, Palin called Perry's ties with the drug company "crony capitalism."

"True reform and fighting the corruption and fighting the crony capitalism is a tough thing to do within your own party," Palin said. "Believe me I know that. I have the bumps and bruises to prove it."

Palin, who paints herself as a "maverick," added that she's been fighting corruption for the last 20 years at the local and state level, in addition to her time campaigning as the 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee.

But this wasn't the first time Palin went after Perry. Speaking on Labor Day weekend at a major tea party event in Iowa, Palin hinted at the Texas governor–though she didn't use his name–while speaking about government corruption.

“Some GOP candidates, they also raise mammoth amounts of cash,” she said. “We need ask them, too: What, if anything, do their donors expect from their investments? We need to know this because our country can’t afford more trillion-dollar thank you notes to campaign backers.”

Palin hasn't thrown her hat in the ring for president, despite making big appearances this summer at events in key battleground states. She said Monday night she's still discussing a potential White House bid with her family.

In the meantime, Palin said she's "getting a kick out of" staying in the spotlight and weighing in on the 2012 prospects.

"I'm getting a kick of getting out there, making a speech, making some statement about things that must be discussed and then the very next day watching some of the candidates get out there and discuss what it was we just talked about," Palin said.

The woman is entirely delusional. Does she really think she matters? Truly amazing.....but in a sad way....

Sarah, please go away. Its bad enough we have true candidates of the same party ripping each other apart as Obama sits back and laughs his way to 4 more years. But to have someone who quit office talk about corruption?? Please go away. If the republicans really want to win, quit tearing each other down and come up with some specifics on what changes they would make. This generalization crap is worthless. SS reform. Great, but what specifically. Tax reform. Super. What about it specifically. Come prepared. Any idiot such as Obama get talk in generality.

First of all, I wish Palin would just go away; she's not running; there isn't an instrument smallst enough to measure my interest in her opinion. Second, I would love to see the media fact check the statements made by policiticains during these debates and then present a report card to them. There's going to be lot's of statements made and lately some GOP members haven't felt bound to stick to facts. Reporting out on what is said and whether it's the truth, misleading or downright BS would allow people to get a better sense of how trusty worthy a candidate is.

Does the phrase "three ring circus" mean anything? I don't see anyone on the GOP side that I would vote for. Obama may not be perfect and God know he had a mess to clean up from Bush, but he has my vote!

Palin's been running since 2008 in a desperate attempt to become relevant. Of course, she can't stand up and debate the others being totally devoid of knowledge and intelligence. So, be prepared....the moronic Palin is going to announce a third party campaign. Apart from everything else, Palin clearly is the most repulsive, grotesque reactionary to seek high office since Spiro Agnew.

What she meant to say is she gets a kick out making so much money without having to do anything but spew forth her venomous ranting and raving about everyone else. Everything she did in her short reign as governor was to avenge anyone that challenged her unethical rule. And talk about being bought!

she doesn't want to jump in the race right now because she wants to avoid as much debates as she can. she's not smart enough to debate Perry, Romney or Paul. Heck! I even think Herman Cain is smarter than her.

And you think that the Koch brothers won't expect something in return from the little teaparty puppets they are financing in the upcoming elections?

Sarah should just shut up. She won't jump into the race until most of the debates are over. She knows she can't debate due to her inability to think fast. She has no answers only hatred.

Sarah either needs to get in the race, or shut up. We don't need celebrities piping up at every little thing. It puts the focus on them rather than the issue at hand. Since we already have a lot of those in the administration, we certainly don't need more.

Sarah is waging a non-campaign campaign! Thank you, CNN, for promptly addressing our need to not know what Palin thinks!

I think I've figured out Palin's strategy. She now recognizes that when she answers questions in real time, her answers make her sound like an uneducated goob. By staying "officially" out of the race, she can listen to the questions that are posed to candidates and then answer them in her own good time, after her handlers have had a chance to write her answers, er, I mean, vet her answers for her before she speaks.

  18. As GM goes, so goes the country...Unions/Democrats killed GM, now they are killing the country

I'm confused. So being vaccinated against a disease that could cause cervical cancer is a BAD thing?
    ==================================================================================
When the government FORCES you to do it it is!!! I don't get it with the looney left. They feel fine with a women's right to choice to kill their baby but also feel fine with denying a young woman's right to decide what she must get injected into her body. Absolutely nothing seems to be off limits unless they deem it so using their contorted logic.

Abortion is the killing of the unborn. In india over 500 million females are aborted(killed before birth). in europe they are currently working on a law that will stop parents knowing the gender (sex) of the child before birth. Why, abortion. Parents (mothers) sometimes choose which child should be aborted, (killed before birth) die and which should be born according to their whim.

It seems that this so-called "idiot" from a small school in Idaho has been able to steer the conversation for quite some time. "Crony Capitalism" is a hot topic that nobody wants to address but key to corruption in our political system until Sarah jumps in. Republicans and Deomocrats are both targets for this honest politician – of which we are quite short of at the time. I like it when the candidates have to stand up and be counted. Regardless of whether they may have made mistakes in the past – I want them to be accountable and explain where they are now.

Ahh yes, ignorance and stupidity calling the shots. Vacinnations have not been proved to be a cause for any of the bad stuff that people want to attribute to them. Yet the first charlatan that comes around and says"I have the answer to all your problems" people that don't think glom on to those answers. We haven't moved past the snake oil salesmen just moved on in time. Sarah Palin is one of those along with Michell Bachman. They believe in something that has no basis in fact and try to sell to enyone who will listen as the real thing. But they know no better because they are ignorant and are incapable of thinking and analysizing beyond their own tiny world.
